- Two western grey kangaroo joeys can now be seen with their mothers hopping around their outdoor habitat at Brookfield Zoo's Australia House.
At birth, the two unnamed joeys, born September 18, 2010, and October 9, 2010, were about the size of a jelly bean. Although the gestation period is 30 days, a joey is very underdeveloped at birth, and when born, it needs to crawl up to its mother's pouch without assistance. Actually, they're wallabies. For the commenters that don't know, the only difference between kangaroos and wallabies is by size. Wallabies are smaller than kangaroos.
Actually, while we do have Bennett's wallabies here at Brookfield Zoo, the animals in this video are western grey kangaroos.

Thank you for such wonderful shots and footage of the joeys and kangaroos. We were at Brookfield Zoo 10/09/11 and they didn't want to really come out. My daughter is doing a research project and picked the kangaroo. Thanks again!!!! :))

Jesse Gliddon they are healthy for you but aren't enjoyable eating in my opinion. Way too gamey. I'll stick to lamb or pork.they can be full of worms. The uncles used to shoot them for dog food but I'm citified and a big softy. I couldn't shoot one these days.
