Whatever you think, he is an incredibly fascinating person.
i totaly agree. maybe his political views may not be to everyones liking but his story is amazing
I agree
A true poet then and now. No matter what his views.
@Random Restoration fuck off with your spam
Not shy at all, at least not painfully
I've always been a fan of the Smith's and Morrissey but I've never watched an interview with him. I find him extremely intelligent, beautiful, and he has such an insight and perspective that most people, even most artists do not have. He has such an appeal that is elusive but almost tangible. Raw, honest...almost like he doesn't relish the limelight. Very fascinating.
EASY on the eyes and - whatever you wrote. So appealing and beautiful!
Amen
AMEN!
i agree
His mother sounds like a wonderful mother and person; he is lucky to have her.
I always think the same when he talks about her. If life had granted me a child, I hope I would have been a mum like her.
Anneke are you under 35?
It’s a shame that we celebrate wonderful parents because there are so many terrible parents.
@@chrism1518 that literally makes no sense
Hey mom I can feel the soil falling over my head!...
That's nice dear
He has such a charming talking voice
he's such a charming man
For a working class lad from deep darkest Manchester he is super articulate, thoughtful and intelligent......I just read his autobiography, which is AMAZING btw, and couldn't help thinking how a person from such a background (he describes his schooling & 'formal' education as dire) could write such a masterpiece of prose. It's fascinating. In this interview he mentions that his mother was a librarian, and that he spent most of his time reading.......I presume that kind of explains it.
Why not indeed. That's what makes it so remarkable.
I think the term 'working class' can mean different things depending on the era, background & place you're from.
Obviously Moz came from a rich cultural background & whether by nature or design it not only was a foundation / influence but he was able to build on that & create amazing music.
There are loads of autodidacts - articulate, thoughtful, intelligent - from working class backgrounds.
trappistpreserves Of course but what fascinates me in particular is this very "English" class abyss that seemingly exists. I don't think u find it in quite the same way anywhere else.
We escape our backgrounds. We escape and we can never go back and sometimes that can be quite sad.
theselector is he the Russell brand of his time?
The way he smiles when he talks about having a mystical connection to James Dean is the cutest thing.
This is most definitely the best Morrissey interview that I've ever seen.
Oh god I love him so much
He's so interesting. The more I watch his old interviews the more fascinating he becomes. He's charming and troubled at the same
There are some really interesting and funny interviews with him that are more "recent" he's very charming and he sometimes asks the people interviewing him questions, if he respects them he shows it by learning about them and showing interest in them.
I could listen to Morrissey all day long, he is very well spoken and interesting human being.
His style of speaking is so unique and poetic...it makes sense when one knows his lyrics.
His Cupid’s bow is so pretty
this is the guy that people loath? i think he has a bit odd way of communication and comes off as a little pretentious but he seems like a super interesting, eloquent, introspective fella. kinda exactly what i expected from listening to his music
He got a personality crisis while it was hot
That's what you think until you read up on his current views of the world
He’s changed considerably since then, I still find lots about him charming but you can’t blame someone for disliking him now, after all he’s slipped up
Loath? You mean, people who don't know him.
@@39FanclubViva Moz.
something that i noticed, which is fascinating, is that all the way through his career he would occasionally look directly at the camera when speaking in interviews.
I’m so glad for him that he had her as his mother. How many parents wouldn’t freak when the kid tells them he doesnt want to work? AND - i wish I could give him a hi five that he got famous and was able to “take revenge” with his words about his terrible school. When you’re a kid, a teenager, having horrible teachers can scar you for life! I had a terrible teacher in 6 grade n how I wish I could tell her off now that I’m grown. He did it for all of us who had horrible teachers!!!
I didn't want to work at nineteen and my mother used to have a nervous breakdown about it. It was like the end of the world. 'I sent you to a good school and this is how I get repaid.' Terrible days. Wish I had a mother like Morrissey. She seemed like a great woman.
the love of my life
hahahahahahaha obviously im not, and he is obviously not mine. its a joke. also, i have both, carlos. :)
Calm down mate
This probably my favourite Morrissey interview. He is indeed a charming man, especially early on.
Devastating. Such a sweet man. So English. Bless 'im.
I'm quite surprised by comments. Nobody talks about Morrissey's pretty face. I mean, his saphire blue eyes,(the way he looks the camera brevel, irresistible) his flawless nose (and perfect profile) perfect skin. He only improved with age. At last, an hansome working class man talking about Oscar Wilde grand œuvre : a weapon of mass seduction !
Yeah, he's a beautiful man.
Looks quite uncomfortable at all social interaction, but is so charismatic "on stage"
His lips slay my life.
Enguerrand de Marigny and big brother knows it! Jgd
His head is big lol
Enguerrand de Marigny saying he improved with age is a lie. He did not age well at all
Arguably the best Morrissey interview ever.
He was only 25 here but was very much wise beyond his years…
one of morrissey's best interviews
There will never be another who could come close to morrisseys genius!
Never
Jim Morrison was better and smarter
I hope that was sarcasm, +guitar lover.
Not just Jim Morrison, but I think Ian Curtis surpasses both
Jay Galley he is a bit like Brando in some of his videos
‘A blending of souls’
he is quite literally a poet
A tough kid who sometimes swallows nails. The greatest voice of the working class! Love his honesty, beautiful person
Raised on prisoner's aid
You'll never guess what nails actually means.
09:23: "What was your nickname?"
09:25: "I can't say, it's ridiculous. All nicknames are ridiculous but mine was more ridiculous than anybody elses."
Do you think his nickname was Morridiculous?
Ngl bud real chance
5:54 - very charming words for his mother
he is gay lol
Jim Jones
Yes and your a moron
What a cool guy. Glad I saw this.
Just reading his autobiography, so great.
Amazing writer. One of the best.
I love how he talks about language and lit. He gives me hope as a writer
Adrianne Johnson keep writing he got no jobs in journalism 💞💞💞
I was the same way with the Beatles when I was his age. That's so weird. And now I look back and it's almost like I'm looking at someone else's life.
One of the best interviews. Always an interesting guy.
I get the feeling that Morrissey is a national treasure (UK)...
Ricky G well he's a national something...
@@tomodonnell878 Maybe he is at the National Front Disco being a national treasure
He is...he's up there with Lennon and McCartney Weller Gallagher Bowie ...true wordsmiths...no pun intended 😏🤣
Yes, you're correct, he is!
@ILL SUBZ he’s fantastic, charismatic and has talent and intellect boozing from ever pore. Wish there was more like him. Hes an individual and not a follower. Funny how I seen him in the s upmarket in Cheshire last year. So your talking utter gash.
damn he was hot... he still is. and not just his looks... everything about him. His wit, sense of humor, voice, intelligence... I love this guy. btw, is it just me or is there Blondie playing in the background of this vid at one point?
I remember the first time I watched this. Something that I won't forget-EVER.
Thank you Morrissey ~~~~
I don't owe you anything at all
BUT you owe me something, so repay me now...
Thanks for 'getting closer' so we can see that handsome man.
welcome back, we love you!!! thank you for the upload, my favourite of him.
He is so handsome and charming 💕
I think the interviewer is Nicky Horne. A very, very good interview asking insightful questions, probing just enough and giving Morrissey the space to answer as fully or not as was his wish. As a result Morrissey is relaxed and opens up. Horne had clearly done his research well.
I don't think he has Aspergers I think he is just introverted and quite reflective
I just think he's spent alot of time improving himself from a very early age.
Definitely Autistic and absolutely marvelous 🥰
In all the Morrissey interviews I have seen across time, he has been very forthcoming, non-sarcastic and respectful.
9:20 that smile
Absolutely adore this man, I can’t get enough of looking and listening to him ❤
again, thankyousomuchfortheupload i love you.
Good Lord he was beautiful. Wow
Morrissey saying 'plundered into' instead of 'blundered into' (while looking very pleased with himself) will never not be funny to me. Love him so much
I'm glad someone else spotted his mistakes. Although I love him, I found it quite annoying!
A plundering desire for...love.
@@StarsandBarsRecords For this particular line both make sense in a way... That's the nature of his genius I guess
@@anastasiaagafonova3225 I wasn't really trying to make that point at all. I was just showing that he used the word plundering in a song one time.
@@StarsandBarsRecords Sure, but shouldn't it be 'blundering desire', though?..
I caught Blondie in the background...I was listening to Morrissey as well
No one can have a personality these days without having something wrong with them.
His mother was overspoiling him by giving him everything he wanted. Saying its ok not to work is not a good example to set to your children. Being a child of an overspoiling mother and an impatient strict father who has no time to understand his 'different' son can create a fragile or vulnerable narcissist who can't hold down relationships as an adult as no one can ever fulfill the emptiness they feel which is felt from a very early age. They are human eyores, extremely sensitive victims of life who cannot get close to people because of distrust and insecurity. Socially impoverished but silently feeling entitled to be and have the best in life, constantly needing adoration in order to feel validated. They need their brilliance to be noticed. They take on traits and characteristics of people that they inspire to be like as they struggle to find their own identity. Practically making it impossible for them to describe who they are as a person. Hes a beautiful man and interests me immensely but I feel for his eternal sadness. But still, extremely beautiful and a joy to listen to.
You just described me and I love Morrissey. Is it really so strange?
Damn, I feel like jumping in a river now...
@Zod79 but I think he's a super talented artist that I admire. Would you want him as a friend or partner? Helll no. Ask Johnny effing Marr lol
Some of us are meant to be alone, as you put so devastatingly.
@Zod79 not said that at all, someone for everyone! Someone who operates in a similar way may be happy with this arrangement.
There's nothing wrong with having Aspergers, unless you think there is. The fact of the matter is its a real condition, and Morrissey has a combination of traits that suggest (to me at least) that he may have a mild form of the condition. I don't see anything wrong with that. I think it's just interesting. And it's not just because he's shy or INFP. There's more to it than that.
this was a nice interview.
He's is quite right about being delicate - that gorgeous face plus he has a ready answer which is interesting. Interesting that a Dictionary became his downfall (due to his so-called teacher)
Did anyone else hear "Call me in the Background"?
You put the " at the end of background instead of call me. Yes, it was a year ago but meh haha
I am actually, listen to alot of music though. I'm actually listening to a song called Drown by Bring Me The Horizon right now lol. I forgot I wrote that comment :b
Rebreb canada blondie!
Rebreb its subliminal programming at its very best
3:27 This is the inspiration for the song Rubber Ring. Spoken by the man himself. Brilliant to hear him say it.
Thankyou for this!
Bohemian working class and very important figure to those who felt disenfranchised. Over sharer lyrically and in general, I did think Morrissey was finished at one point but this has proven not to be the case. Johnny was right, they were the best group in the world. Nick Kent's assessment of their future standing was also correct. Young people are now getting The Smiths.
Old soul on young shoulders.
I Love the Magic Words You use...
He reminds me of Princess Diana when he talks
Yeah, I got that as well.
Yeah I can see that
Def can see it
Its definitely an INFP thing
Labeling is just part of what humans do in order to communicate. "Shy" and "introverted" are labels just like "Aspergian" or "autistic" are. Would you be offended if I called him "shy"? There's nothing wrong with having autistic traits. Do you think there is? We who have them are usually glad to have people acknowledge them in us so that we can better be understood.
Nicky Horne is a class act as an interviewer.
You can see he's uncomfortable when asks about his parents..I think he'd much prefer the idea of immaculate conception for himself.
StILLLL sooooooo pretty
I QUITE love Morrissey, he's QUITE a genius, and The Smiths is my favorite band after The Beatles.
Corporal punishment at school Moz , not capital. I know schools were grim and violent places our generation grew up but they stopped short at actual state sanctioned executions.
No i think he actually meant capital. As in death sentence.
@@wickedlilly05 Well in that case he'd be dead :)
My school was like a death camp. What they did was murder children's souls.
I'm just giving some reasons why I think Morrissey MAY have Aspergers. But I pick up on other subtle things about him that also suggest it. We all have different personalities, so Aspergers affects different people in different ways, but there are some typical traits that are common to the condition.
Definitely Autistic and super marvelous 🥰
There is such a lot about him that is indicative of autism
He was so well spoken for a guy of 24-25…
I have Aspergers and I don't live with my mother, I'm that bad on eye contact and I've in an intimate relationship. I don't like that you stereotyped Aspergers people by distilling their behaviour into three easily observable traits that are often never true.
For most people with Asperger's eye contact is incredibly hard actually , it's extremely overwhelming .. I can't make eye contact with people what so ever ... It is a trait of people with Asperger's that is true in fact , yes not everyone with it might not struggle it ...
J'adorreeeeee
Fucking hell I love him! THAT IS ALL!
how beautiful
❤️❤️❤️❤️
wat a beautiful man
I used to love him so much and I am a huge Smiths fan, and he was such a champion of the working class. . His politics these days, to me as a Socialist that grew up in a housing estate, makes me puke. I hate who he is now.
He still is a champion of the working class.
@@diogenes9771 Working class Muslims?
Morrissey is not a racist. It is the media who stirred up all this animosity towards him.
I like Morrissey, but this interview really shed light onto why he is so phenomenally accepted irl
SPM is a genius.
Glastonbury was great...The Smiths, I mean. The audience seemed riveted, intense...bottles flew when there was no encore. I can see M and Johnny up there now dancing. From their perspective it clearly didn't work, but I thought they were extremely good and so did another musician friend.
The Smiths and Jacobites were the 80's, most of the rest folly.
“glastonberry” 😭💕💗💞💓💘💖💗
Morrissey has m.e. ❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️
Napoleon Hill & Abraham myalgic encephalomyelitis?
My beautiful handsome cute bby 😍😍😍❤️
Alex Turner wants to be Morrissey so bad
+Acid BritPop Nah. There's a lot of people you could point to in regards to Turner, but not really Moz. Not musically or socially.
who doesnt
In what way
Je t'aime...Mozzer est tres, tres bien...il etais une commentaire interessant
5:26 me
hahahaha omg...why do you only have two likes?
SAME btw
Always honest 😊
im noting how he tilts his head left when he stops talking and when he answers he swings his head round to the right. hes just such an interesting fella
he seems very shy in this interview. at least in the beginning. constantly fiddling with his hands.
damn his life sounds like mine rn wtf..lol
What about now?
Heart..........Melting........... O:-)
Such a complex person
I keep hearing that, but I never thought so. No offense whatsoever but he's always struck me as the obvious bookish, mama's boy, closet gay guy.I mean, no real mystery about him.
Oh not me. I'm.smart and I know a smart person when I see one.
Elnejo86
I didn't mean to say he is not smart, he is.
@Cherry Red For years he didn't say anything. Not that it was wrong not to say. But it always seemed fairly obvious to me, and many people including articles I'd read mentioned how "mysterious" he was.
Surprised to hear him misusing the word "plundering" repeatedly. Maybe he's got it mixed up with "blundering", as that seems to be the sense of it.
tostare He also said capital punishment instead of corporal punishment.
Plundered makes more sense than Blundered in the context of what he is saying though....
Yup...agree. I'm a lyricist. We plunder and blunder...but PLUNDER more so.
So, from pure writing experience...i think you are bang on the money mojopin.
I once wrote a song lyric which was loosely based on something Morrissey touched on about the fickleness of the "radio play" choices and bias.
It was not his words exactly but it lead to an opening line of mine which went:
"Yesterday we danced along, to the death-knell of yet another song, that someone duly wronged, as they refused to play it on..... on Radio 1".
You do the math. I think Morrissey will inspire many generations to come.
I do. What makes you think I don't?
What is that version of Call Me by Blondie playing in the background?
That guitar isn't on the original!
I hear it! Just as I read your comment actually!
I link over the years he has become more masculine.
I hate him but love him ya know
Quite sad, quite good. Quite, quiet governing.
did anybody else notice call me by Blondie in the background?
So handsome
Not to detract from the awesomeness that is Morrissey, but umm, the content of the interviewer's 'chat' at the start of this clip??!! I'm not surprised, but it still gave me pause for thought. It wasn't that long ago that 'educated' people genuinely believed that different sexes and ethnicities of human beings can be grouped in an evolutionary hierarchy!I know some people are getting awfully sick of the PC stuff, but I feel the need to comment on this one.
Wish the interviewer would have followed up with some questions on which sports Morrissey took part in while in school and if he still followed any sports at the time.
What was your nickname at school?
At the start of this I was wondering"Who is it that this interview is reminding me of?" I just couldn't place it and it was bugging me, then it came...."Gareth Gates!" Morrisey at this age is the fucking spitting image of Gareth Gates! He even talks like him, without the stammer of course. Actually it's GG that sounds and looks like Morrissey. Jesus H Christ it's uncanny. If they ever make a film of the Smiths and Morrissey then he's the man for the job. It's probably the most eerie likeness I've ever seen. Their face shape, eyebrows, jawline, smile, expressions, voice, even accent. Give GG the exact same haircut and a flowery shirt and Tadaaa....you have Morrissey! Thank god I pinpointed who it was, that would've kept me up all night.
