This really highlights what can be achieved with a solid eye for visuals and a good imagination. Anyone with even the tiniest amoun of Blender knowledge (like myself) would look at his and think it must be so far beyond their reach... watch the tutorial and think... Dang... I could do that. Hugely inspiring and really impressive. Really hope you stick with the channel, amazing work.
Thank you so much! I’m glad that I’ve given you inspiration it really means a lot. I will definitely stick with the channel and continue going forward :)
@@lanewallace. Thats great news... Blender can be extremely overwhelming in these early days, and it's quite easy to get disheartened when your donut doesn't look quite right ;) :D But to see someone break down something of this quality and show what can be achieved with some thought and imagination, it's hugely helpful so far as sticking with it and pushing on. Even more so than a lot of these in depth tutorials on how to achieve perfect topology and the like... as helpful as they are of course. So thanks again and I certainly look forward to more.
I know this is a year later, but I wanted to say this for anyone else who sees this. I think what makes this feeling, is that as experienced artists, you want everything to be high quality. However, watching this video you see that the only high quality assets are those directly in front of the camera. Everything else is low poly, low res, but because they are obscured by clever positioning of the camera, good lighting, and things like fog and good composition, it lets the mind fill in the blanks. Putting effort into the stuff right in front of the camera, and let everything else only be the quality it needs to get the idea across.
As someone who's new to blender, it's amazing to see this much insight into the decision making and workflow towards making a final render like this. Thank you so much!
Man, the fact you took the time to make this whole enviroment, make this video and ALSO share this project is just awesome! Many thanks for this. Gotta say the cinematics are incredible here. Nice sense of design and style.
Wowzers, in just a few weeks you’ve gained thousands of subscribers! That’s really great, you deserve it! I can totally imagine you becoming the next VFX mastermind.
I know, it’s so crazy and I can’t believe it and I am so thankful. And thank you so much! You deserve some more attention because that pipe tutorial was soooo helpful and I bet that a lot of people could find it very useful. You should post it on Blender Nation because more people would see it :)
ya you are right. I have a question bro Could me link me some videos or websites where i can learn to get cinematic look and learn more about how to achieve it and play around with different settings
Great video. I always complicate things and it takes a long time and I almost never finish personal projects. Now I understand how to be simpler. Thanks.
Your voice is very calming. Nice render work also and thank you for the breakdown. Very interesting for me, because I am not into render yet, but I always think about trying when I see videos like yours.
Hi Lane, This is the kind of content that, on top of giving me tips, actually motivates me - you show us how to obtain great results with reachable amount of efforts - A bonus thank you for the synthetic mind and the calming voice. cheers from Brussels
I loved how the yellow lamp gave the composition too much warmth and "hope" so you pulled it out of the scene. Awesome! Thank you for sharing with us your workflow and thought process. Liked and subbed.
Thank you so much! And I think that color is a big part of getting the “cinematic look”. You don’t want things to look to dull but you also don’t want colors to be way to vibrant and saturated.
Fantastic breakdown, lighting, atmosphere and camera angle... I need a small tip ...is there way I can make boats bob automatically on ocean modifiers? like how we use shrink wrap modifers...But I just want to avoide manually keying frames and rotation...
I downloaded your project file (thanks a lot for that, very generous of you) one thing I did notice is that if a project file is using a file path to write the video that doesn't exist on your computer (it won't) then it just sits there dumbly doing nothing while you wonder if it's rendering - it's not and you'll need to set your source path to somewhere on your computer.
This is amazing, going down the rabbit hole of blender tutorials and found this! Would love more tutorials from you! Everything is done in blender right ? No need for like post programs to do any lighting or anything?
I've been using Blender for about five years now, and for me personally, it can do everything I want to do. I have Krita and Inkscape but 95% of the time I get frustrated with how convoluted they both are and then I do it in Blender, with no hassle.
I had 2 blocks of fog. One was covering the entire scene and had a volume scatter and volume absorption. The other fog was the ground fog which I did the same but added a gradient and some animated noice to make it flow on the top of the water.
This is great. I started leaning blender a year ago. I want to get into concept art, like environments. I have been studying, but I can't seem to get the scale of the scene right. any tips on that and get better at concept art ? do you change your focal length? what is the focal length for that project? tthanks. keep creating
I actually had the same problem with scaling for the longest time when I started and I still struggle with it sometimes. Something that helps me is putting a human model in the scene while you make it. Move the model to places and just compare what you are making to the human. This helps a lot to make sure things are proportional. And focal length can play a big role in the feeling of scale in the scene. Because of course you see more with a really small focal length so things can appear smaller. My advice is to use a larger focal length for larger scenes. For example this could help with a really massive scale building because the large focal length would crop some of the top off which leave your mind to wonder. But sometimes you don’t want that so using a smaller focal length and then having the camera low and tilted up can make a really grand sense of scale. Btw I’m don’t know the focal length of that animation off the top of my head but I will look whenever I get a chance and let you know. I wish you the best of luck with concept art and just keep on making stuff :)
Amazing tutorial! New sub here! Weird thing, I tried the nodes you used for the plane (water), didn't get anywhere close to the same effect! Any thoughts how come?
very cool👍 IDK if you take fan suggestions for SFM but I'm wondering if you are possibly down to create an animation using the season 2 model of Kenny and season 4 or season 1 Lilly models from TWD (Telltales the walking dead) videogame series. Or if you cannot find lilly use Jane. The idea could be where Kenny and Lilly or instead Jane go on a hiking on foot adventure walking around exploring an outside OR INSIDE map or whatever and kill a group of zombies together melee style or with fists.make it as long or as short as you want. use the Kenny player model and npc. Then search up lilly player model and npc or search up Jane player model and NPC..
Hey guys I’m new to this render thing and I’m really interested in learning to Render wallpapers. Can someone please give me source where I could start from cuz I really do wanna learn all this.
There is not a official name for the technique, and to ad more detail to the textures you just put the image into the roughness, specular, and normal with a bump in between
This is why I love blender , it gives everyone the ability to share their stories.
Blender got to be one of the best communities out there. So much content!
As a newbie to Blender this year, it’s tutorials like this that I really enjoy discovering.

Good to know, thanx gor taking the time to explain and demonstrate the process.

i love the way you model these low poly items and texture them with images that's so dope bro
Thanks! It definitely makes it easier to add a lot to a scene without spending forever modeling things you might not even notice

that white emissive building trick is sick, i'll be stealing that -- cheers!
Me: - Hey, Lane Wallace how you did that?
Lane: - Hahah, Ian Hubert are doing Brrrrrrr
Thanks for the breakdown. As a beginner myself, it's really useful.
wow thx for the tips i was really confused on environment design
but one tip i learn is model things that will be visible to the camera
Looking so real and dramatic 👌Also i love the vibes the wires add to the scene
