Capcom chose to look for an artist in Canada because the company was already known to use Canadian voice talent studios to provide localized voice overs to most of they major IP's at the time (like Resident Evil). Even the actors who voice the English cast in SF3 are voice talent from canada. Amazing interview btw.
I believe the reason why Canadian voice actors were used at the time is because majority of voice actors in the US were unionized while most Canadian voice actors were not.
And here I was just thinking that American rappers would've probably been asking for exorbitant amounts of money for this task so they were trying to avoid at least one hurdle, but this makes sense. Good lookin out on the info
this guy infinite is the reason I fell in love with street fighter period! I was in the Arcade and we heard that character select theme and turned our heads around in slow motion like"this is street fighter?!"
Oh fuck yes. Its criminal that capcom never hit this man up again. The work him and the sound team did on 3 is the stuff of legends. "Alright, that's cool! Yeah, i got the picture"
Yooo seriously one of my favorite fighting games. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to the intro, character select theme, etc. 3s is still highly regarded as one of the greatest fighting games of all time. This man’s voice was heard by millions, and still heard to this day.
The theme song and the character select song, both are on point! I can say the 3rd strike OST is by far the best in the entire series. The lyrics man, “only one master’s going straight to the top!” This is amazing lyrics man!!!
SF3TS.. it's tough to believe it's been 20+ years ago. The game and soundtrack were just one of the best moments in gaming. To know more about the man that delivered lines, and sick vibes to take us on a journey back then. Seriously Capcom needs to bring Infinite back + the sick soundtrack style that 3S implemented. Thanks for this
I just want him to know how much that game means to a lot of people. Not only because of its stellar game mechanics, but also because it's dripping with absolute _style_ . A huge part of that is his work as an MC and the announcer voice acting. Absolutely legendary.
He sounds like his people from the Caribbean. I love all his songs from Third Strike 😍 🎶 Make your first move, so what's it gon be? Your trapped in the new world of Street fighter 3 🎶 Free-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee Yeaaaah!
Capcom's connection with Canada goes way back starting from the mid-late 90s, they would cast voice actors based in Vancouver & Toronto and frequently contracted work with a third party dev out here called Genazea. RE2 was pre-Genazea, but they also assisted on MVC, MC1-2, Onimusha 2, RE0 and Outbreak.
Bro dude if he noticed that his contributions to the street fighter 3 third strike sound track made it one of the best in gaming but also how to implement rap and hip hop music in video games but back in the 90s barely anybody was doing it at the time.
"They paid me to make a generic east coast sounding rap. Like the film industry, they went to canada to find a great value version of american culture."
To him it sounds generic but to gamers and street fighter fans it legendary like one of the best representation to rap and hip hop in all of video games still to this day.
Playing 3rd Strike now and came across this. I remember seeing Infinite on MuchMusic and hearing "One Day". Crazy he got this and Im so happy he did! I was even playing "Lets Get it On" in my car during college!!!
“Make your first move so what’s it gon be, you trapped in the new world of street fighter 3”…INFINITE went too hard on that remix man. That man is a LEGEND in my book. Shout out to him FOR REAL
Still to this day Let's get it on now is the best fighting game character select theme of all time. Thank you for making such a badass theme and the absolute best vibe of any FG to date.
I have been listening to the OST CD for years since the game release only to realize now Infinite did all the rap and announcer voicing my mind is blown !
They should've done this in sf6. For me, this video sums up exactly why 3rd strike was phenomenal. Not only the tracks but the voice overs were all amazing and with a lot of personality.
I really cannot overstate how important Infinite is to the soul and the vibe of my favorite video game, both through the music and the voice over. 3rd Strike's art direction kind of gestures toward a darker, sharper, more adult street fighter, and I really think it would have fallen apart without Infinite and his flow and his amazing voice being a *constant* presence in that game. He is the voice of 3rd Strike, simple, hard and iconic. He lent legitimacy to 3rd strike's aspirations toward hip-hop and house music and jazz aesthetics, and while it sounds like it was just a job to him, I hope he knows that he completely stole the show. I was so happy to hear him at Evo this year. Canada's GOAT.
Still my favorite fighting game theme, and one of my favorite video game themes in general. Those three tracks really changed what I thought video game music can be, and I still blast the theme decades later
I legit wish they wouldve kept you forever you help make that game what it is. Its THEE GREATEST STREET FIGHTER SOUNDTRACK AN VOICES. EVER. AS THE NARRATOR. Email them they needed you for 6. An they just keep dropping the Ball
I just can't stop listening to the hip hop in SF3rd Strike, I don't hate the hip hop in SF6 but I'm sorry 3rd Strike music crushes it. Infinite is a legend and part of my childhood
He was the perfect announcer for the Street Fighter 3 series. There's nothing more satisfying than to see and hear him say "K.O.!" with that glorious orange background screen after finishing the round with a special art. Street Fighter 3 is by far my favorite fighting game of all time. It has aged like fine wine both in it's sprite work, art, presentation, SFX and the fight system. It's still such a fluid game to play. I didn't know the announcer was a real rapper from Canada.
Man I LOVE THIS. Easily my favorite game soundtrack ever and takes me back to the late 90s. Infinite is a dope ass rapper. I listen to it all the time till this day. PREPARE TO STRIKE.......NOW.
This man.. this specific man.. made street fighter as cool as no other game at that time. Best street fighter best ost. Street fighter with street beat of rap.. not forget to mention the character selection fit precisely without lessening the coolness. I always wondering how will capcom would suffice the next Franchise with this masterpiece. Too many epic moments and legendary event like daigo parry and memories..
