man, i rode in one of these 2 weeks ago, and it is scary fast. went from 35 mph to 105 in less than 4 seconds. the feeling of it kicking from 5 down to first gear and being pinned to the seat in a state of pure shock is insane.
Physical buttons (hooray!!) and yet the interior design looks so minimal and classy. They sure know what they're doing, unlike some other companies which are all about marketing and style rather than usability (i.e. Tesla).
Currently have a Huracan EVO and came from a R8 V10 Plus (2017)... got to say, I miss the ease of driving the R8 much more due to visibility. Also a WAY better audio system in the R8. The Huracan's touch infotainment system also is a mess in my opinion. Million leagues below the MMI of the Audi.
The sad part is that they are the same exact car but the R8 is a $100k less. You are paying $100k for Lamborghini badges, a body kit, and a different tune.
I’m learning towards an acr viper or the r8 for my first modern sports car purchase everything else I have is a hot rod or built dodge diesels. Thanks poster for explaining the comfort of an r8 I do plan to drive the hell out of the purchase and the acr viper from what I’ve seen is just not comfortable to drive distance.
The R8 looks extremely beautiful, the rear is a work of art, very simple yet exciting. The front is also a good fit. The overall proportions just fit nicely. The Lamborghini looks like an angry wedge

Beautiful car! I went into Audi to purchase it, but left with the A8L V8, at about $110K vs $220K on the R8. I figured I can go a few years back and pick up a low-mileage R8 in the future for $80K.
I totally agree with you mate, I absolutely despise soft rev limiters, and like mat said, if your paying over 120k for a naturally-aspirated v10, you wanna give the peeps in town a bit of pop and bang if u know what I mean. Unfortunately, with the petrol ban to be introduced in the foreseeable future, its only gonna get worse my friend. But yes, soft rev limiters are the bane of our petrolhead lives.
The R8 is nice looking and likely well engineered. I’ve had 2 Audi turbo sedans and loved them, reputedly the best in car interiors. I would like to see the R8 realistically compared all out to a Porsche 911 4S, which checks all the boxes for me as a daily. I was a bit surprised seeing that 10 cylinder engine jump around under hard revving. No doubt it’s rubber mounted but that movement gives me pause that it might tear up the mounting area.🤷♂️ As a Porsche enthusiast there’s just something unique about the way they drive. After driving 911’s and Panamera 4S’s for 10+ years it would be a stretch to give one up for the admitted nice Audi entry. I especially enjoyed watching them run high in the road circuit races. I hope Audi will keep developing them… .👍

I'd prefer the Huracan over the R8 mainly not for looks, but for performance and speed. You know the R8 is kinda like less crazier or less enthusiastic than driving a Huracan.
Pretty sure the Huracan is a bit faster. It's a little lighter. However, the big difference is the ability to use it as a daily. Thats why i love audi. All of their RS cars are not as quick on a track as the rival, but they are always the most comfortable. They use more soundproofing and have softer suspension. Everyone loves the idea of the fast time on the ring, but realistically most owners will simply let it rip on a freeway entrance ramp or have a spirited ride on a back road.
About the drive select being on the steering wheel: You can actually program your "*" button on a regular Audi to be the drive select button. So, it's the same accessibility, really.
I own exactly the same one. The sound is just amazing. It's hard to beat on the 1/4 mile. It's a hyper car no doubt. On a dry circuit you can easely do the 0 to 60 miles in 2.8 seconds. You can drive it on the road, but the engine just screams for acceleration. The sound again. On a circuit cornering is just so much fun. I say even more it's faster then the GT3 and the GT3 RS on a circuit. No doubt. It's not a road car for long distances. No hyper car is in my opinion. It's built to race. In my case, I just stored it with low kilometers on it. I got already some good offers, but I can not sell the R8. It's the best enjoyable hyper car from Audi. Crazy I know, but I love it too much. My wife once said, what if you have to choose between me and the R8. I answered. I hope it never comes to that.
That would depend on whether she would leave you when you're at your lowest point in life and broke? Or will she go through hell with you no matter where it leads you two.
Hi Matt, Two points, the R8 Performance/ V10 Plus in dry mode is 90% rwd the fronts tend to work when 'essential', hence the 'donuts'. Wet mode is 50:50, Snow mode 60:40(I believe). Last point, the reason you found the new shape easier to drive is because it came with Michelins. You need to be Alert with Pirellis.

As I have actually seen a TT RS with a bodykit to make it look like an R8.
Except that the TT RS I saw actually has had a LOT of work and is running 810BHP.
Looks: Huracan absolutely wins for me.

I'd prefer the Huracan over the R8 mainly not for looks, but for performance and speed. You know the R8 is kinda like less crazier or less enthusiastic than driving a Huracan.

Pretty sure the Huracan is a bit faster. It's a little lighter. However, the big difference is the ability to use it as a daily. Thats why i love audi. All of their RS cars are not as quick on a track as the rival, but they are always the most comfortable. They use more soundproofing and have softer suspension. Everyone loves the idea of the fast time on the ring, but realistically most owners will simply let it rip on a freeway entrance ramp or have a spirited ride on a back road.

About the drive select being on the steering wheel: You can actually program your "*" button on a regular Audi to be the drive select button. So, it's the same accessibility, really.

I own exactly the same one. The sound is just amazing. It's hard to beat on the 1/4 mile. It's a hyper car no doubt. On a dry circuit you can easely do the 0 to 60 miles in 2.8 seconds. You can drive it on the road, but the engine just screams for acceleration. The sound again. On a circuit cornering is just so much fun. I say even more it's faster then the GT3 and the GT3 RS on a circuit. No doubt. It's not a road car for long distances. No hyper car is in my opinion. It's built to race. In my case, I just stored it with low kilometers on it. I got already some good offers, but I can not sell the R8. It's the best enjoyable hyper car from Audi. Crazy I know, but I love it too much. My wife once said, what if you have to choose between me and the R8. I answered. I hope it never comes to that.
Id class a hypercar as a Keonigsegg / LaFerrari. Id consider the R8 a supercar, not a hypercar. Still a beaut though!

Two points, the R8 Performance/ V10 Plus in dry mode is 90% rwd the fronts tend to work when 'essential', hence the 'donuts'.
Wet mode is 50:50, Snow mode 60:40(I believe).
Last point, the reason you found the new shape easier to drive is because it came with Michelins. You need to be Alert with Pirellis.
