What I love about the relationship between Sheridan and Delenn is how natural a romance it is. It starts out with small moments like this and then it gradually grows more intimate. That's something a lot of TV shows and movies get wrong when it comes to romantic relationships.
That's something we get wrong in relationships. We hurry them too quickly to form strong bonds. Only a few can grow that deep so quickly and last years.
Don't many romantic relationships start hot and heavy? Two people meet, like what they see, have sex, and then later figure out they can get along in the sort of long term.
@@aluisious Unfortunately, most romances for TV are rushed through or tacked on. It's usually treated as an afterthought and isn't a significant factor in the overall plot. It took till the end of Season 3 for Sheridan to confess his love for Delenn and their relationship got serious in Season 4. It was an essentially and defining part in the development of the two characters.
"Babylon 5" is like a diadem: piece of jewellery made from noble metal, filled with small, precious gems. The original story is a silver, or gold, which keeps everything whole together. Scenes like these are the diaments, emeralds and rubins.
I was blessed to have a relationship, a connection like that with another human being, with my late husband Tim. I didn't have him in my life for very long, less than a decade, but in the two and a half decades since his passing, the memory of the love we shared has given me strength and comfort when I needed it most!
I always loved Delenn, even before her transformation. Her spirituality, her wisdom, her unique point of view, her inner strength, and her voice all make me love her. Her devotion and care for Sheridan only reinforce my opinion of her. How odd to love a fictional character so much. I am a fortunate man to have found a lovely woman almost exactly like her to share my life.
Ryszard Nanke Delenn was a recent (anc comparatively inexperienced) addition to the Grey Council, and yes, hers was the deciding vole for war, BUT (and this is important!) not the sole vote. Recall that at that moment, she was grief-stricken over the death of Dukhat, her mentor and friend. And the PROMETHEUS did initiate hostilities by firing on the Mimbari ships. Jankowski COULD have followed his orders to merely observe, but instead he ordered his ships into close proximity. He furthermore was obviously neither authorized nor qualified to initiate first contact. He panicked and shot first. Once the war began, Delenn sought a way to end the war, but found that the Mimbari were not easily dissuaded once blood had been spilled.
No we are not, Wars are actually happening less amongst the Major Powers, it just seems to be violence all the time due to the Media reporting on it. Of course you always have those who are complete and utter nutjobs
@@xaenon It's also implied trough the series that Delenn lost considerable influence because of her efforts for peace(especially warrior caste views her as disenginous) and her continued insistince to remain among humans(She was actually offered to become successor of Dukhat by council majority which she declined in favor of staying in Babylon 5). When she's finally ousted from Grey Council, Neroon(her warrior caste rival who she had conflict in the past) makes clear that he considers Delenn as a race traitor.
one of the things about this show...one of the many things that make it so great...they took the time..they energy..the thought to build up relationships between all the characters..the attention they paid to the little things..the thoughtful moments between them that made true reflections of real people...cant be replicated that kind of attention and thought
30 years my bride has been doing things like this for me and I hope she feels as special as she makes me feel. Truly one of the best and most powerful love scenes I have ever seen! Thank you so much for uploading!
While Sheridan and Delenn showed a natural romance blossoming through the small moments of interaction, I do believe the unrequited love between Susan Ivanova and Marcus made their moments more....endearing to the heart.
Whenever i'm feeling a lack of motivation , or if i feel myself slipping a bit , i'm reminded by this scene and it gives me the strength I need to be the type of person i want to be remembered as. I want to be the person who can always be relied on , you know the type of guy who always goes above and beyond for the people he cares for . I want to be the dad with the garden hose . Truthfully a powerful scene that moved me to tears more than once.
It's hard sometimes to be all if you have a lot of people who need a lot from you (more than one person can provide). I've been that guy for most of my life. I will only say that you must look to you own wellbeing and limits so that you are enabled to be helpful over the longer term. Not doing that will see you burnt out and not able to help others. There's a balance of what you can manage and be sustainable. Life, however, often throws more than what you can manage at you and (contrary to hollywood stories), sometimes it just is too much for too long. I'm not for being selfish or uncaring, just for recognizing that to help others, one must be balanced, healthy, not always exhausted and emotionally burnt down.
I just made the very stupid mistake of watching the Sleeping in Light goodbye, especially in light of Mira having passed in January. Haven't seen it since it aired... And I'm still a mess over it... So back here to them falling in love to cheer me up😊 Babylon 5 really was awesome! I'm so glad I got to be a 90s Sci-fi geek.
Oh, I know how it goes.. It keeps on bringing me to tears, even after all this time.. B5 is truly a special, wonderful thing, a work of art that will continue to be appreciated by those it has touched.
I did something similar for my god-daughter.. She was stressed and had trouble sleeping, just before her final exam in math... I found rain sounds on I-Tunes and set up a BlueTooth speaker in her room and put the sound clip on repeat. Sometimes the small things yield the biggest payout...
Delenn and Sheridan's dad were considerate and caring. Her father would have stood out there in the yard for a long time to help his son. Delenn would prevent Sheridan from smashing his head out if he rolled out of the slant bed. That's the job of a parent or a partner - to help when you are needed and to try to not help so much as you instead end up in trouble. THAT balance is the hardest thing in an environment when there are many real, hard events generating needs from those you care for but you are only one person. If you think of yourself first, you, you feel guilt. If you don't, you easily burn out and can't do any more. The band where you can help most of the time but still be careful with your own health can be a narrow one.
Found a few rain sound recordings, managed to get one about 45 mins long that faded in and out at the ends, was able to cut a CD and let it play. Better than pills, better than white noise.
I would be concerned if anyone gets through Sleeping In Light without shedding tears. I saw it in 1998, and I rewatched some clips from it recently (so came here to cheer myself up😂) but I'll NEVER rewatch the full thing as it's just too upsetting, especially having lost so many of the cast. It's also arguably one of the greatest finales of all time, a proper ending. I'm glad HBOmax is bringing in new viewers to B5, I hope you loved it as much as we did in the 90s😊
@@J3335 I know! Sleeping in the light is so well done, but I don't think many people could sit through it, not only because of sheridan, but of delenn and everyone else who was there too! Yeah, I have my parents to thank for that, got some cracking shows in the 90s😊
By listening to him, comforting him and making him feel happy and safe? As a man... yes. This is how a woman gets a man. This is how true female power works..
I have watched this scene again and again, because that is love. There is - in my humble opinion - no other way how love could be. Just be there for that one person that want`s and needs you most. The best thing love can be is unconditional, it is the best thing I can offer you: My love, mo matter if it turns out as friendship or relationship. I just want you to know, that I am by your side. Or maybe he sells trinkets or books haircuts. It's these little mysteries that most people would never ponder, but I always seem to notice and wonder at.

That's love. Just remember though, take it from me, sometimes they need to learn the hard way, that's love too. Sitting back and watching them fail at something so they learn a lesson is probably the hardest thing a parent can do, but if you want them to one day be a functioning adult, you'll have to do that as often as often as you bail them out.
As a father I try to be there to soften the fall but not stop it. To be strong, steel must be heated and hammered to shape, then quenched to temper it. I want my children to be tempered enough to meet challenges I can not be there for.
