Lots of you in the comments are wanting some Helicoprion content (rightly so!), so I wanna point you in the direction of this video: ruclips.net/video/gcqvc4XQE9Y/видео.htmlsi=NxulTwCm1F-TazeV I collab with Lindsay Nikole around 20 minutes in and talk about Helicoprion for a few minutes - so please do check it out and leave your thoughts in the comments on Lindsay’s video 😁
Historian here! The calendar thing is so wild, reality is always stranger- and more entertaining in my opinion- than fiction. 😂 What’s even more so wild is that isn’t the first time the calendar has changed….isn’t that so wild to just think about the fact that somebody literally *changed the calendar*? Also: I just graduated from university and just wanted to give SharkBytes/Kris a shoutout because without this channel, I would not have passed my last science class! 😂 I literally wrote a paper on shark conservation, and used this channel and Kristian’s papers as references and got a 96% on it. (The highest science grade of my life lol) So thank you Kris for your always entertaining and informative videos and for your work in shark science- it helped someone like me with a learning disability pass my hardest class. 😁
It's hilarious the UK dragged its collective feet for 170 years about changing over to that calendar. Much like America's obsession with Imperial measurements today 😂.
One of the best things about your channel is your enthusiasm. As soon as the video starts you are enthusiastic from the get go. Im sure you don’t always feel super happy / charged before each episode but I think it keeps people tuning in aswell as the shark content. Great video. More prehistoric sharks for sure! 🦈
Agreed! Enthusiasm and energy is often what separates a good RUclips channel from an excellent one. SHARK BYTES, PBS Eons and Clint's Reptiles are great examples of doing it well.
Loved this episode Kris! Sharks and archaeology! Awesome! Very interesting information. The almost fully intact fossil they found was wild!! Doesn’t happen very often, I’d imagine. Lucky find! 👍
Thanks Kristian for this interesting video! Even though you're not a marine anthropologist, I really like videos like this because you prepare them in a well-founded way! To include these among your other videos about today's world of sharks would be a blessing for me! Thanks again and best wishes from Bavaria, Jürgen!👌😉
A big thank you to you Kristian for bringing us closer to the world of sharks with your in-depth knowledge and your friendly, funny way! I always look forward to your videos! Many kind regards, Jürgen!
Yes, more prehistoric shark videos please! I don't know if these are the correct names but how about the one with the spiral teeth like a buzzsaw (Helicoprion), and the one with teeth on top of its head and dorsal fin (Stethacanthus). The look of those sharks are just sooo crazy, i'd like to know your thoughts about them.
I would love to see more prehistoric shark content! I love Ptychodus and all the other weird and wonderful sharks that existed throughout history. It makes me kind of sad to think that we won't be able to appreciate so many of these species because they simply didn't leave enough evidence behind for us to find out about them. I wonder what other discoveries are still out there?
Definitely would love to see some more videos on prehistoric sharks! I’d never even heard of this type of prehistoric shark, so thanks for getting me up to date on it. Love your show! Thanks so much ❤️😊👏
They really hit the jackpot with that complete fossil in Mexico. I literally gasped when you showed how well-preserved it was. I'd love to heard more about prehistoric sharks, there's certainly some weird and funky ones out there.
I had no idea rays' mouths looked like that with the plates, absolutely crazy! Thanks for helping me to understand how exciting it was to find such a complete specimen in Mexico!
*LOVED* this one. An ancient mystery finally solved! Ptychodus is one of my favorite genera of ancient sharks. Especially as they used to be swimming about where I live these days, which was part of the Western Interior Seaway. I collect shark-related fossils from both extant and especially extinct species, and have some T. mortoni teeth from Kansas in my collection.
I appreciate this community very much. I would love to hear your advice, Kristian and community, on where to have the best chance to find a Baskin shark, as I have the pleasure to go with the family to Cornwall late July this year. Better south cost or west? Thanks and greetings from Switzerland ❤
North coast definitely the better coast for sure. Although they’re so hit and miss down here (for reference I’ve been down here 10 years, and missed them every time - just my luck). Without doubt the best place to see them guaranteed in the U.K. is Mull in Scotland.
I've been reading alot about the ancestors of the great white and that it is propably not related to megalodon, but potentially to mako sharks. Could you make a video on this and give your thoughts, because it is a very complicated and overwhelming topic
Megalodons are in the family otodontidae and gws and mako are in family lamnidae, not closely related..And new megalodon study estimate it to reach 25m (82 feet) ..
I remember where I’m from in the state of Connecticut- they were building a retirement home I think , and ended up digging up Dino foot prints and I think it was a type of shark too? It’s a great little museum now!
Hello i am curious do you do any content of yourself working in the waters, aquariums and so on Or you just cover videos.. That would be very interesting. . Thank you
Could you do one on the portbeagle shark. Tried searching you tube and not a single documentary on them despite being one of our biggest sharks and being so closely related to mako and great whites, also possible being the shark mistakenly identified as a great white in our waters.

Can you please do a commentary on Open Waters.
Finally! A prehistoric shark that *isn't* Megalodon!
Do tell.
Please, more prehistoric sharks!! This was a perfect cross between my love of sharks and my love of paleontology.
PALEO SHARK PALEO SHARK PALEO SHARK
Definitely up for more prehistoric shark clips!

This absolutely warms my heart Emily! You can do anything you put your mind to 🦈
Well done
It's hilarious the UK dragged its collective feet for 170 years about changing over to that calendar. Much like America's obsession with Imperial measurements today 😂.
Absolutely fascinating! Please give us more paleo sharks! I'd really love a story on those ones that looked like buzz saws.
Helicoprion?
He did a collab with Lindsay Nikole about that specific shark, check it out
Deffo check out the Lindsay Nikole collab over on her channel! 🦈

LOVE prehistoric Sharks.
My youngest son (11yo, and autistic) lives and breaths for Prehistoric marine life, so THANK YOU for this video.!
I’d love if everyone started claiming ptychodys was still extant instead of megoladon. they say a change is as good as a holiday
don’t worry….this glass is completely ptych proof 😏
I have a friend who swears she's seen one!
@@creationrebel9698 excellent… finally someone taking some initiative
Love ancient sharks!
Any chance of Helicoprion next? I've seen so many crazy pictures of what it may have looked like.
Ooooh yes, that would be great xx
I love prehistoric animals 🫶
Another awesome video Kris. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
It's amazing how just a single shark fossil can tell us so much about a prehistoric species of shark.
Desperate for more complete fossils like this one!
Super cool video! Would love to see a video on the porbeagle shark too 💙
I love ancient animals, dinosaurs, current animals...so it is a yes from me!

Please do more on Ancient sharks.
Loved this episode Kris! Sharks and archaeology! Awesome! Very interesting information. The almost fully intact fossil they found was wild!! Doesn’t happen very often, I’d imagine. Lucky find! 👍
I think it's good to sprinkle them in from time to time, but still keep the focus on the current era and events.
As a paleontology student I’d love to see more paleo episodes 😁
Thanks Kristian for this interesting video! Even though you're not a marine anthropologist, I really like videos like this because you prepare them in a well-founded way! I’d like to hear more of pre-historic sharks 😇
I'm happy to hear about any sharks at all.
Yes please do more prehistoric shark videos!
Loved the episode, very interesting!
I wonder if that sea was closed off when that shark died....it was just trapped there. Crazy to think of that, but....
Yes, more prehistoric sharks, please!
I had no idea rays' mouths looked like that with the plates, absolutely crazy!
Thanks for helping me to understand how exciting it was to find such a complete specimen in Mexico!

6:12 that’s incredible!
Amazing find! It gives me hope that we may find similar specimens for other extinct species, especially megalodon.
This was fantastic! Yes, more prehistoric sharks, please!
I Want more!
So many determinations through the decades and decades are basically educated guesses and theories.
Very nice Video 👍🏻
Excellent video thanks!
I'm from Kansas and I've never heard of these sharks. I knew about us being a shallow sea. Great video.

Newquay, St Ives, Land's End and Lizard Point....all over the coastlines during July.
North coast definitely the better coast for sure. Although they’re so hit and miss down here (for reference I’ve been down here 10 years, and missed them every time - just my luck). Without doubt the best place to see them guaranteed in the U.K. is Mull in Scotland.
@@SHARKBYTES if I knew that before our last Scotland tour. 🙈 thank you for this. 👍

Yes please do more videos like this! I really enjoyed it!💙
Well done. Loved it. Fascinating
Hello. Good Afternoon Kris 🦈 Happy Shark Sunday 🦈🦈 Happy Memorial Day 😊😊
Good afternoon!!
I’d love a video on the Ginsu shark.
That honestly is one of the coolest fossils I've seen, just behind the dinosuar that still had skin
I've been reading alot about the ancestors of the great white and that it is propably not related to megalodon, but potentially to mako sharks.

This was fun, Kris!
Paleo sharks...guess work? yes!
Who cares though, it's a brilliant learning curve, well done Mexico!!
hello from Denmark 🌸
These videos are amazing I’m learning so much!
The inland sea, in the US, was the busiest waters. There was so much swimming around in such a shallow sea
Hello i am curious do you do any content of yourself working in the waters, aquariums and so on Or you just cover videos.. That would be very interesting. . Thank you
Awesome video 🩵🦈

Love to hear more on megalodon, * it is extinct
Awesome job mate.
This is super interesting!
Wow that fully defined fossil is amazing
Wonderful
Even if you aren't really a specialist in paleontology, we would love to learn with you👍.
Hylaeobatis Problematica, and Ptychodus Martini are definitely my favourite Latin names for Ancient Sharks.
You just know someone has had an absolute nightmare with the first one 😂
This was so awesome. Loved the video!
Thanks so much!
Can you do one on the ironing board shark
That was really cool.
Fascinating.
woudn't it be awesome if they disocvered a emgaldon like this?
