  • In this video we review the New Dewalt DCD999T1 Flexvolt Advantage Drill Kit compared to the DeWalt DCD996 hammer drill which it replaces. this brand new just announced DeWalt Hammer Drill uses Dewalt's new Flexvolt Advantage technology to sense that a Flexvolt battery is attached to the DCD999 hammer drill, and it thus allows the drill to output up to 43% more power. Dewalt claims the DCD999 1/2" hammer drill can provide up to 1200 UWO. (Unit Watts Out) vs 820 UWO on the DeWalt DCD996 hammer drill.

    Sorry to break it to you, but you are wrong. The highest amount of torque u can get out of those drills is actually in speed one. It's all about gear ratios, highest speed doesn't mean highest torque, actually its the other way round. Same as your manual car, when you are going uphill you shift down to a lower gear to get more torque to wheels. Both of those drills can get those lags in no probs in speed 1. Try it out, you will be surprised. Keep up the good work tho, love the channel!

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 года назад +4

      I mentioned this to someone else who pointed it out, I was not focused when I spoke, and was thinking the opposite, because speed 1 is the slowest speed, and peed 3 is the fastest speed. So I meant to say I wanted to just lower the speed setting, which raises the torque.

    Jeff, the hammer mode is not for screwing in screws. It is used with a masonry bit for drilling through masonry products. The hammer mode applies downward force in pulses allowing you to drill through masonry with the correct bit. A impact, applies torsional force in pulses, which helps your screw in things. So remember:
    Hammer - Downwards force (Break)
    Impact - Torsional Force (screw)

      Yes, I've been using hammer mode for years to drill holes for our Tapcons. We play with the drills in many modes during reviews to show people how they react.

    Great video! Just had 2 quick comments:
    1) Both drills use an electronic clutch. When it “gave up” driving the lag on #11, that was only because it hit its torque cutoff. Would have been interesting to see the lag driven in standard drilling mode.
    2) The yellow DCB118 fast charger is actually an 8 A-h charger, not a 3 A-h. Unfortunately, they are actually including a slower charger (6 A-h) with the DCD999. Between that and it being made in China (along with the identical DCF887 that is also included with the DCD996 kit but made in the USA), it was just a little disappointing to see.
    The only other 8 A-h Dewalt charger is the 4-bank DCB104. The DCB104 will also charge 12-volt MAX batteries, which is extremely versatile and nice on a big fast charging system. Dewalt recently released a new 12 A-h charger (DCB1112), and that is now their fastest charger.
    It does look like Dewalt has one other new kit combo version of this drill: DCK2100P2 (vs the DCK2100D1T1 tested here). The tools are the same, but they include the faster DCB118 charger and two 5 A-h XR batteries instead of the slower charger, a 2 A-h and a FlexVolt battery. It’s nice they have the faster charger in that kit, but not including the FlexVolt battery kind of defeats the purpose of this new drill…

I used the 6ah battery, once in a while battery died by end of day, but ive 2 batteries so no big deal. Got a 10ah battery for a super price, now never dies. Yes your DCD998 Power Detect drill from Lowes is pretty much the same beast as this DCD999 drill from Home Depot, except the Lowes version is programmed to give extra power on the 8 AH battery only. The DCD999 will give extra power on a Flexvolt battery only.

    Hello Jeff, I was looking at buying a Dewalt and have been familiarizing myself; checked on their site, a half dozen or so contractors who did videos like yours...then called Dewalt; then HD and Lowes (the reps at the local store were precious little help, some were not sure what Flexvolt is), so finally just stumbled on you, great video, I have subscribed. I am getting ready to head over to check up top for "new item" or "no home" for the Dewalt 999T1...quick query, where should I look for one of you "infamous" 10% Lowes Coupons? also, any opinion if the kit which includes the DCF 887B? Thanks and I will see you soon.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 года назад

      Donald We are currently telling people not to buy that kit the reason is since I put up that video, Home Depot put up a new Black Friday tool deal involving the flexvolt advantage tool only tools where if you buy one of the tools by itself , they will give you the free flexvolt battery with the charger so now you would only be spending $179 instead of $299 just keep in mind they are giving you the older flexvolt battery free not the newer flexvolt battery which you would get in the kit. This may or may not make a difference but some people are really sticklers about getting the latest greatest battery for whatever reason. Here is the link to the flexvolt advantage deals most Home Depot stores don't have it in stock or they don't have the battery in stock so you're better off buying the deal online if you want but take a look at it and here's a few other Dewalt deal links that I put for you directly into the Home Depot site:

      Hello again Jeff,
      That was one quick response.
      Thanks for for the speedy, educational and certainly helpful response.
      I had seen your video about the sale (you are holding a store score card) a day or so ago; I am going to watch that later this evening.
      I flipped through your site’s, “about”, community, playlists, etcetera. This is definitely a good spot for me. DIY, with entertainment, and not the contracting bit. Had I found you sooner I could have binge watched your videos through the FIRST lockdown.
      Thank you for the advice and great links. I think I will do as you say and do the buy one get one. I can make do with the “old” battery and get the “new” one in a few months when it is then old and on sale.
      Given this is such a good opportunity with the buy one get one let me bother you one further time...for now.
      There is much commentary in my recent research that the 999 is the best presently and “blows away” the others, but for smaller jobs perhaps the smaller impact driver (dcf887?) a good idea? One of them said that is the only flexvolt adaptable driver. If so, what other tool would you suggest for that buy one deal? Or would you get the set that is displayed on your video fairly recently where you are standing next to it, I guess in your yard, making the “is this for real” (not sarcastic version) look?
      Thanks again. I will see you this evening. A few episodes anyway.
      Best,
      Donald

    I'll be interested to see a video using the DCD999 drilling into concrete. Until last week, I've been using my 18v dewalt drill from 2005 and it did a decent job but finally decide to go with the latest and got the DCD999. After trying it out I was surprised that 1) it seemed to drill roughly to the same depth as my 18v and 2) it became extremely hot. Hot enough that it was hard to hold the handle. My question is: I have the DCD796 and I was thinking to purchase the New DCD999 Flexvolt Drill and Battery. But I noticed that the DCD999 does not have the XR logo on the cordless drill anymore. Does that mean that I will not be able to interchange batteries. Can I put a 6Ah Flex Battery on my DCD796 or DCD996 with out frying the motor? Does XR DCD996 and XR DCD796 use there own XR Batteries up to 6Ah or 8Ah? Does the New DCD999 use only Flexvolt Advantage Battery Technology and a New Air-Cooled Charger designed for Big-Size 6Ah Flex Batteries and up. Also because the motor and whole drill is designed for it. Let me know thank you. Keep up the great work on your tool videos.

      In the US, the general convention is that 18v were for nicad batteries and 20v are lithium. The difference is really marketing. It prevents people from buying lithium batteries thinking they can charge them with a nicad charger. (which is a no-no) The mounting system and chargers are not compatible, so it basically prevents misunderstanding when buying them.
      Nicads are obsolete now. But the original idea hangs on.

    Looks like the DCD999B bare tool $179 and some bundle DCD999BW606C overpriced at $358 USD that looks the same as what is supposed to be like the DCD999T1 kit is up on the HD Website now. There is a Bundle Hammerdrill/Impact Driver Kit also that is In Store only that looks really good for $369 and is known as the DCK2100D1T1 which includes the DCD999T1 contents including the Flexvolt 6Ah battery and DCF887 and 2Ah Compact Battery and 6 Amp charger/bag. Wish the Border was open to drive to the Niagara Falls, NY store. Just noticed the DCD999T1 is up too for $279 and store only it seems. Damn, I have a US Mailbox in Niagara Falls, NY too that cross ships into 2 Toronto Canada locations for pickup and none of the better kits that are online to ship. Hopefully HD Canada stores get them up soon. Although since I already have the Flagship Flexvolt Mitre Saw I could possibly get the bare tool, but don't want to possibly use 1 of the 2 batteries out of that setup and would like a 3rd one overall in the system.

      @@justinrozon7 I did buy the $399 CDN kit today with the Impact Driver too. Why? Because the Flexvolt 6Ah battery is of the older design in the promo buy the battery/charger for $299 and get the bare tool free. I check the box of combo kit and it has pictured the new style lfexvolt battery 6Ah so I am better off and I can sell the Impact Driver tool only or with 2Ah battery anyways if I want. I will post my own little You Tube Video with still shots of the display to help the Canadians out that are looking for the lastest Flexvolt 6Ah battery. I might check another could of Home Depots to see if newer batteries are in the other kits as it seems the battery does not have part number revisions between them.
