You’re asking a student pilot to start putting in VOR frequencies in inadvertent IMC? You’re a clown... no wonder why you work for “silver airways” That’s your best advice?
I gotta punch this story in, bro. Years ago an owner of a high-performance, all glass-equipped, sweet as pie, Columbia 350 in our local area lost control in IMC. Dude started out VMC flying VFR when he entered IMC. In a stressful attempt to return to VMC, the pilot wiped out and never came home. Nailing the skillz in unusual attitude-recovery is the shiznit, but that's no prob 'cause Juan's got a wing-rockin' mentor keepin' him sharp! All the best on the Ride, Juan... you'll do well!
Great video, Lewis! Always impressed with the learning environment you create with your students. That is a gift not possessed by many, but possessed of all the great ones.
Thanks for that! Much appreciated! I always want the environment to be fun. Thats the main thing. If the students are comfortable in their environment they will be open to learning so much more! Fundamentals of instruction right there! Many many instructors forget about that!
Another great video, mate. I did bugger all navigation with VOR during my ppl training. For diversions I had a map, a pencil and my thumb! Keep up the great content.
That’s the way it was for me too. Diverting with a plotter and an E6B. SOME examiners here like doing a VOR diversion so I get my people to practice it.
@@LewDixAviation good for you. Better to have them learn more, than not enough. I am saving some pennies so I can do a night rating next, (canada) so I will have to learn the VOR stuff in the near future!
Hey Lewis, just wanted to let you know how much I admire your dedication to general aviation and your passion for instructing. I am a PPL in Northern Arizona and would be absolutely thrilled if you ever were to make a trip out this way to do some flying. The Grand Canyon is 40 minutes from my home airport - A20... It's a long way from you, but the views and the mountain flying experiences are spectacular! Anyway, keep that hilarious and informative content coming! Sincerely, Mike K.
Hey Mike, if I’m ever up that way I’ll give you a shout because that would be epic! Thank you for supporting what I’m doing! One thing is for sure, that my content will always be funny because that’s what I strive to be everyday! Thanks man
Lucky he did not ask you to find our position on the maps under the hood. I had to tune two vor's with a From, draw lines on the map to find my position all under the hood.
The VOR is separate from the GPS. You wouldn’t get DME in this particular plane, but you could cross reference radials and work your distance out that way if needed
LewDix Aviation I probably sound really dumb right now but how would you enter the frequency for the VOR if the GPS wasn’t working? I’m probably missing something obvious, thanks for the help!
You don’t sound dumb at all! You’re actually half correct. With this plane the GPS controls NAV1. So you would lose NAV 1 because you can’t set frequencies anymore. BUT, we have NAV 2 which is completely independent from the GPS
They cut off your view outside so you can only see the instrument. It's to try and simulate instrument conditions but it's really not even close to actual IMC. Plus, a lot of people cheat with the foggles and look outside anyway.
Just wanted to correct my self , I did notice I said 200ft horizontal , I mean to say 2000 ft horizontal 😳✈
I knew what you meant man.. we’ve been through that so many times 😉
Always enjoy your videos, Juan. No doubt you'll make an excellent pilot.
Que chida Juan i cant wait till i start my lessons!

Lew have to admire your tutoring skills - seriously! Your an inspiration to those with a passion to teach.
Thank you! I’m very happy that my passion comes across in the videos.
I watch your videos because of your teaching. I'm going to be a CFI one day and I'm soaking in all your great teaching skills.
This video was a good learning video and entertainment at the same time. This is why I love this channel. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks Alan! I try and make different content than the other channels around. I never want to be boring

😂 I think my catchphrase is known by enough people now for me to just sit back and watch other people use it 😂
This is the most fun aviation channel. Thanks man!
Thank you man!
Great video! I’ll re-reference before my PPL checkride! Flying with your favorite Polk State instructor tomorrow, Micah!
Ah that lad... make sure you are very aggressive with the flaps, he loves that haha
I see a LewDix video, i click. It's that simple!
Seriously in contention for being my number one fan.. simple 🤷🏼♂️

Thanks for all the content. I'm just starting my journey towards my PPL. Your videos are incredibly helpful! Keep it up!
Hey man I’m glad you started your journey and I’m pleased my content is helpful!
Me and the family are going over to Disney next year, I am totally booking a lesson with you.
We will definitely make that happen!

Hey Lewdix, could you give us an update on your aviation career path? Are you still flying with Silver? Etc.
Yep, still flying for Silver. I’ll be training on the ATR soon and hopefully upgrading to captain not too long after that
How much price for studi
My X-C is today!

Wouldn’t the vor method not work for diverting if the gps was inop?

What mount do you use for the camera in the middle of the cabin?
Were you expecting a "number to call" lol?
Oh boy, Release the Dragon!
Would you ever consider becoming an examiner?
That’s one of my goals!
How is Juan's flying these days?
Mr. Martin Torres he’s not flown for a while man. Waiting for the day he can come back to training
@@LewDixAviation Aww, that's a shame.
Hopefully it won't take him too long to get rid of the rust.

Wats the point of the goggles?

I’m just here for some attention. I’ve not flown in weeks. It’s depressing. No one loves me.
Zero Three Delta hop on a 747, get back to U.K. and I will take you up from Kemble :)

haha we've all done it! anyone that tells you otherwise is a liar!
