      @@rickjohnson9558 Agree with you completely. Harvard takes in only about 10% of those that apply (from a pool of excellent students with high test scores and GPAs.)
      The classes on the undergraduate level are mostly large lecture halls taught by grad students not the professors. Harvard, like most Ivy league schools, is a research institution, Professors are pressed to publish and get grants not teach undergraduates.
      Other universities are teachers colleges where teaching students is the focus. Classes are smaller (15 to 25 students) and they are taught by the professors not grad students. You will find students get a much better education in these institution than the Ivy league "brand name" universities.

      @Hans - Or we could go back to the family unit and or private tutors. Currently the Internet provides more than enough information for us to educate our young without a need for a centralized education 'system'. The only authority required is the natural law, Parents. Just highlighting an alternative.

    • @15thobserver
      @15thobserver 5 лет назад

      @Hans - This is a bad line of questioning, but sure. Yes I have a way to make money, no I don't have a 'job'. Yes it requires time out of my life, yes I'm aware that most people work 40 to 80 hours a week. Yes I know private tutoring CAN be expensive, but it doesn't have to be.
      But lets go ahead and break this myth.
      1: Research has actually shown us that it only takes roughly 30 hours of dedicated time for a young mind to learn reading, writing, and basic mathematics.
      2: People actually have the ability to chose the life they want their child to come into. So if a person is not in a place where they have the time or resources to bear a child, they shouldn't. That is not the responsibility of the state. It never was supposed to be our centralized 'day care'/indoctrination centers.
      3: The myth that both the mother and father can have successful fulfilling careers while having well adjusted children is crumbling. Someone NEEDS to stay home, and we are slowly re-learning that.
      4: Currently public schools are teaching warped versions of history, constantly changing how mathematics are taught, refuse to teach problem solving, never teach anything about taxes, don't teach money management, have 0 courses on any kinds of investing, don't teach how to work the land or take care of it, refuse to teach real environmental issues and how to deal with them (such as our eradication of the bee species, deforestation, and the polluting of water sources) While instead teaching the ever debunked myth of catastrophic 'global warming' (which used to be global cooling 20 years ago).
      So the whole "people don't have time to teach their kids because they have to work to pay the bills" stuff, doesn't work. Make choices that work, you don't get to have everything you want exactly how you want it.

They’ve been so shielded from ever feeling uncomfortable that they have become hypersensitive to any perceived slight. These people are scary to be around. And the fact we’re catering to their discomfort is even worse.

Every single student there is either from a fantastically wealthy family where mommy and daddy paid a ton of money for their kid to get into harvard (the dunce, entitled kids in this video) or is on a full ride scholarship because they are legitimately full on geniuses (not seen in this video because they were actually being productive).

    What they don't realize, is that their parents are paying for them to be there. So they have all this clout that they won't have in the real world. they are already creating an unfavorable reputation to any employer with common sense. There, the institution is getting paid because they are there. But in the future, they will be in expense to the establishment. I bet that they are even stupid enough to bring this up during their interview as if it's something to be proud of.
