Men and women have different brain structures though. And trans people's brain structures look like those of the opposite sex. So a transgendered woman is basically a woman trapped in a man's body, and a transgendered man is basically a man trapped in a woman's body. When a man says he feels like a woman trapped in a man's body, it's because she is. She may have grown up as a man, but she knows she's a woman because she doesn't relate to male experiences or anything. She isn't trying to be another gender, she's trying to be who she knows she is. She doesn't really know what it's like to be the opposite gender, a man. Sure, she may have been born with male genitalia, male stereotypes, and the expectations that a male would have. But she never felt like that's who she is. If a cis woman pretended to be a man for a week, she would feel uncomfortable and see it as a joke, because she truly knows she's not a man. So why is it so different if it's a trans woman who knows she's a trans woman, but still needs to pretend she's a man? Well, the main difference is time and that it's not funny when a trans person get's misgendered after being misgendered their whole life, but you know what I mean.

The clip at 1:45 i see these differences between my wife and myself in everyday life. I'm always saying 'which way, north or south' she has no clue, hardly knows left from right but will remember small details and dates much better than me. And when people say "it's all culture" I ask at what told culture to teach male vs. female from the beginning, maybe biology. Biology is the egg, culture is the chicken.
There’s a reason why when I try to explain how I fixed my car to any girl, they take no interest at all and just say “oh, that’s cool”. One of the boys though, “damn dude, I had to do the same thing to my 04 whatever”. Guys are generally more mechanically inclined and hands on. Females are more detail oriented and like easier jobs. That’s not to say there are exceptions for guys or girls. I’m a guy and I’m very detail oriented but I sure as shit ain’t going to ballet or doing my makeup.
It feels like if they acknowledge that men and women are different, then that’s saying that women are worse then men. Which isn’t true at all. Just because we have different skill sets, preferences, and aptitudes doesn’t make one worse than the other. Just different. As long as we have the freedom to make our own choices, and men and women are allowed to have jobs that aren’t typically taken by the other sex, then there’s no problem really. If anything, I find it more insulting that I have to act more like a man to be worth anything. That I should be ashamed for wanting to have children and be a stay at home mom. Or wanting to where feminine clothes. If they’re insecure about stuff like that, that’s on them. Let me live the life I choose for myself, even if it doesn’t fit the roles they like.
So when Gina rippon was asked why do most guys likes to play aggressive sports. And most girls say choose ballet. She says maybe girls want to . they should have asked her if she did or wanted to play those kind of sports. Then they would have their answer that yes we are different from the opposite sex in many ways . And that's what makes it work so right
Interesting that Gloria Steinem would say that. If I remember correctly, it was Ms. Steinem in the early days of the feminist movement, was trying to get more women into politics. Stating that because women have a nurturing mentality, they are less likely to start wars. Something you could check on.
I sure as hell am a female...with some female tendencies but a lot of male tendencies. I don't understand women at all, think logically, non emotional, empathic but not like women more obtuse like men; so I naturally get along better with guys as I'm very technical/mechanical and task oriented. I say that I have female hardware and female software but a male operating system. But I am still an attractive feminine female!
I read the book ‘brain sex’ which contains worldwide research about the differences between male and female brains. And mostly there is a difference. There are women like me that are great at math and have spatial awareness. But that is not the norm for women.
@@rumaprakash3894 There is a huge part of societal norms. Women get commented for working too much as a mother. And at the same time too little for financial independance and wanting to be financed by their partner after divorce. But stil... men and women think different. And act different.
it seems like they're kind of all missing the point to me. males and females can have brain differences and social conditioning for different genders can still exist and impact behavior. males and females can have brain differences and the wage gap can still be sexism. male and female brains don't have to be the same for us to strive for gender equality, and male and female brains being different doesn't justify sexism. literally what are they even talking about
Missing the big unifying point underlying this discussion: just because men and women are different (a) does not mean there's no overlap, (b) does not mean *all* women are like X and *all* men are like Y, and (c) does not mean they should be treated differently by our institutions.
the fact that gina rippon later on acknowledges that it is all about sending a good message instead of science is another proof that quick responses keep us from knowing what a person's true opinion on a subject is, or the real purpose of a position is, in particular when it's polemic. if john stossel hadn't kept pushing, we might have not had the chance to hear her say that.
Yeah, well said! I love Stossel's stuff so much. I do like that that one neurobiologist did emphasize that identifying any one brain isn't an exact science. There are always exceptions, people who were born differently, and we should be respectful to those people. But just because there is individual variance doesn't mean that there are not clearly two main groups here.
aren't the brains physically different? From what I remember male brains are larger and have more connections within the hemispheres. While female brains have more connections between the hemispheres. I also remember them having different ratios of grey matter to white matter.
There shouldn't be 50/50 laws, BUT there are studies and many stories of people who have been held back from pursuing their career because of their sex. Female engineers have a tougher time than their male co-workers, men are looked down upon when they become stay at home dads.
I think male and female brains are different, just not as much as some people think. It's fine if more girls choose ballet over football, just as long as it is okay for boys to choose ballet and for girls to choose football.
Fact of the matter is there is a difference no one tought me and my brother to fight each other for fun or me to prefer hard labor and no one tought my sisters to like playing house with each other and to prefer house hold labors
It’s true. The differences are circumstantial. However, I’m weary of anyone who studies sex and gender and uses the terms interchangeably, because they aren’t synonymous.
Every male versus female stat says more men than women do "x"... That means 51% of men do more of "x" and 49% of women do "x"... And the most important thing: When you have a woman's brain in a body with a penis, what does that mean? The uber male versus the uber female would have huge differences. Humanity is on the continuum and lives somewhere between the two extremes.
That lady who said no, next question, could you imagine having her as your mother when you were a kid? You would have been totally neglected, ignored, and been completely on your own growing up.
There was a time when the Left told us that we need to celebrate our differences & there was no shame in it. People on the Right even agreed. Not they tell us that we're all the same…until we're not, and then, only CERTAIN differences should be celebrated.
John stated that most stutterers are male. As a woman who has a different form of stuttering, it makes me wonder if my tomboyish nature is also connected to it & how many girls who stutter are also tomboys.
Hilarious. I said this to Gina Rippon after her lecture about the gendered brain. I was shut down by the host of the evening when about 2 radicals sitting together in the audience shouted “mansplaning” at my comments. However many ladies in the audience came and chatted to me afterwards in agreement. I said: 1) you agree that there is general dimorphism (difference) between male & female brains 2) women dominate many fields (vet, psychology, languages, PR, modelling, medicine) “yes by around 60-80%!” She says excited... “Is that a problem?” I ask clarifying, “I don’t think so”... “No” she says. 3) Then why is it a problem when men dominate professions like engineering, surgery, programming? Could this be down to the dimorphism you mentioned? Especially at the extremities of the asocial technical proclivities required males maybe be disproportionately represented - by nature not nurture? 4) At which ratio would you feel there isn’t ‘sexist prejudice’ within these ‘male dominated’ fields? 50/50? 60-65% female? Or is 70-80% male just natural - in great part down to nature not nurture much like within the female dominated fields 5) Your colleague Simon BaronCohen disagreed, proved empirically that brain types of babies were already dimorphic before society could mould them... the work of Steven Pinker (& primate studies) also debunks a lot of the claims by the ‘social constructionists’. Could it be that your focussing on nurture maybe due to a fundamentally female “nurture” (over “nature”) perspective? *Cancelled*
'There's an image that girls don't want to play football.' No it's not an image. Men may be better at spacial awareness from millions of years of hunting. That's biology.
She said that if you look at brains 80% of the time you can tell what gender the person is. So 20 not so much. Women should get equal pay for the same work. Why is that still a question?
What bothers me about this whole discussion is how all sides of it are dominated by biased factions who both ignore completely what the brain actually is, that is, it is a learning neural network which main main function is to adapt to whatever environment and stimuli it is exposed to, esp. during childhood. If you deprive a brain, no matter how innate it's capacity and facilities may be for spatial reasoning and ability from developing these faculties until adulthood (while exposing it to things like social networking and emotional reasoning) and vice versa and then observe them in detail once they've reached maturity, you will invariably see that the brain that's been exposed to an environment where success depends on spatial ability and not social skills, will be adept at spatial reasoning. Conversely, the same applies to the brain that's been fostered in an environment not conducive to spatial ability but social networking and emotional reasoning skills. Simply committing something into memory changes our brains and structures in it. infinitesimally, but still, it is a change in its structure which can be observed. Sure, there are certain statistically significant innate differences between sexes that may seem like when reduced to statistics that look like they predispose sexes into tasks that were gender divided in our ancestral history. But, since over specialization will lead to inherent weakness, none of that matters on an individual level. Simply by the virtue of how genetics works, there will always be individual female toddlers with superior mathematical and spatial predispositions than majority of all males. And males more capable at emotional reasoning and social networking than most females. And so on. The only people to whom any of this is of any relevance are those individuals whose spatial reasoning or emotional intelligence faculties are inherently so diminished at birth they border on cognitive disability even when fully developed. And they are aberrations not the fucking norm. So you really cannot use them as the defining examples of either sex. Furthermore, all of this is at the end of the day a false dichotomy, since we already know for a fact that the differences between a given individual and another picked at random are far more radical than between any statistical subcategorization, for example based on gender, sex, ethnicity etc. What matters in the end is individual competence and capability. And thus the whole debate is essentially completely fucking pointless, especially from a classically liberal point of view. It's not nature vs. nurture, its nature + nurture and if you evaluate the current science in an intellectually honest way steering away from political bias (which has always been a problem in science, unlike many would have people believe) they cannot be separated. Its evident that this whole discussion is nonsense and leads nowhere but into false observations and biased data. That is, you're both wrong and pump out pseudoscientific bullshit to further your own agenda. And in both cases the individual is diminished, not empowered. Please note, what this means, nurturing is a social behavior. Hence, yet again, nothing is _only_ a social construct. So, it is definitively a major factor in this, but since we are by scientific definition social-biological-psychological constructs, you cannot define the human condition by myopically staring at any one facet. It is simply impossible to reduce us into just one aspect of that trifecta when all of them define us equally. This way you cannot see the forest from the trees. As we gather more information this list will undoubtedly grow and become more sophisticated, but concentrating and obsessing over any one area will only lead to regression and the exact opposite what all of these political movements attempt to achieve. Disempowerment of the individual which then leads to diminishing of the whole. Disregarding individual strengths and less specialization in individuals. And as you should know full well know ReasonTV, specialization and the increased efficiency that it creates are the root of all wealth generation, capitalism and modern civilization. And you are not helping here. Any more than the left. FFX. Read Minna Canth (Finnish classically liberal feminist from the mid 1800's She makes the same assertion, even with out any brain science. You dweebs.) And dig your heads out of your asses.
Overall in general men are structured to hunt and protect, women are usually structured for caring and nurturing and more likely to do creative things. But that doesn't mean gendered brains don't ever cross over genders. There are men who are feminine and women who are masculine. I typically have a more masculine brain even though I am female. I just don't like the assumptions made about how my mind specifically works. Theres a reason I took to tae kwon do over gymnastics, and do game development rather than make babies.
Man and Women do not have different interests, PEOPLE have different interests. There are males who love ballet, and there are females who love soccer. The reason more males are into hard physical sports is simply because males are physically stronger and more attracted to sports that require more energy. Women are just as status oriented as man, it's just that, their status is different. Culture plays a major role in this, not genetics. There are cultural expectations that people conform to in all societies. Expectations that start from young age.

As a trans person, the gender diffrences are real.
Yhea, what is the point of transgenderism if there is no difference between genders.
Wish these segments were longer, so interesting
The brains are pretty similar physically. They however respond to hormones and that changes how they develop. So its more like software not hardware
How do I meet smart women like that neuroscientist at the end there? I’m in academia and I’m surrounded by lefties

So when Gina rippon was asked why do most guys likes to play aggressive sports. And most girls say choose ballet. She says maybe girls want to . they should have asked her if she did or wanted to play those kind of sports. Then they would have their answer that yes we are different from the opposite sex in many ways . And that's what makes it work so right
“Facts don’t care about your feelings”
Ben Shapiro
Interesting that Gloria Steinem would say that. If I remember correctly, it was Ms. Steinem in the early days of the feminist movement, was trying to get more women into politics. Stating that because women have a nurturing mentality, they are less likely to start wars. Something you could check on.
Science isn't saying what I want to hear so I should ignore it
What a fool
it's always a woman that tells us men and women are the same. it's because they want to be one
Everyone who is being honest knows that gender based preferences are innate to a large extent. Not everyone prefers to be honest.
A sinister goal in the years to come is to honor and worship baphomet by creating an androgynous population.
When men get pregnant, let me know. The physical differences are undeniable, making the other differences pretty obvious.
No one here is talking about physical differences lol

Men and women are very different, period. Only someone in denial would possibly claim otherwise.
it seems like they're kind of all missing the point to me. males and females can have brain differences and social conditioning for different genders can still exist and impact behavior. males and females can have brain differences and the wage gap can still be sexism. male and female brains don't have to be the same for us to strive for gender equality, and male and female brains being different doesn't justify sexism. literally what are they even talking about
Missing the big unifying point underlying this discussion: just because men and women are different (a) does not mean there's no overlap, (b) does not mean *all* women are like X and *all* men are like Y, and (c) does not mean they should be treated differently by our institutions.
the fact that gina rippon later on acknowledges that it is all about sending a good message instead of science is another proof that quick responses keep us from knowing what a person's true opinion on a subject is, or the real purpose of a position is, in particular when it's polemic. if john stossel hadn't kept pushing, we might have not had the chance to hear her say that.
Everyone outside of academia and the media has known this since the dawn of humanity.
aren't the brains physically different? From what I remember male brains are larger and have more connections within the hemispheres. While female brains have more connections between the hemispheres. I also remember them having different ratios of grey matter to white matter.
God Bless Dana
Damn im in love with Diana Fleischman
I'm curious on the male vs. Female viewership on this video and what the viewership stats would be on an opposing view.
Yes there are natural differences, but we shouldn’t socialize them as hard as we always had.
Truth and logic
This woman is clearly qualified to speak on this topic as she is BOTH a male AND a female
It’s true. The differences are circumstantial. However, I’m weary of anyone who studies sex and gender and uses the terms interchangeably, because they aren’t synonymous.
5:53 to the end
Boom!
Geoffry Miller next!
Remember when one would ask, what do you hope to gain by not keeping score at the game. They responded by saying "wait and see." Well, here you go.
Women seem to be interested in permission from society while men are not concerned.
She's trying her best to deny nature. This is why I read books and do research, instead of talking about something I *know* *nothing* *about* .
Men & women physiologically completely different. Bone density, blood, muscle composition, brain size weight & composition...
Hilarious. I said this to Gina Rippon after her lecture about the gendered brain. I was shut down by the host of the evening when about 2 radicals sitting together in the audience shouted “mansplaning” at my comments. However many ladies in the audience came and chatted to me afterwards in agreement.
I said:
1) you agree that there is general dimorphism (difference) between male & female brains
2) women dominate many fields (vet, psychology, languages, PR, modelling, medicine) “yes by around 60-80%!” She says excited...
Or is 70-80% male just natural - in great part down to nature not nurture much like within the female dominated fields
5) Your colleague Simon BaronCohen disagreed, proved empirically that brain types of babies were already dimorphic before society could mould them... the work of Steven Pinker (& primate studies) also debunks a lot of the claims by the ‘social constructionists’.
Could it be that your focussing on nurture maybe due to a fundamentally female “nurture” (over “nature”) perspective? *Cancelled*
As long as everyone is treated the same and has the same opportunities why does it matter if men and women are biologically different?
'There's an image that girls don't want to play football.' No it's not an image. Men may be better at spacial awareness from millions of years of hunting. That's biology.
Men and women are completely different yet very similar
She thinks truth is not as important as equality.
Male vs Female brain activity is very different.
Got to give Rippon credit, she sure figured out how to make a quick buck.
Oh say, what is truth? ’Tis the fairest gem

And priceless the value of truth will be when

Is counted but dross and refuse.
