Kind of love getting a kid's opinion on a toy, because I think that they have perhaps the most base mindset of why we like toys. Kids don't really care about stuff like paint quality and joint tolerances and build quality, at least not in the same manner adult collectors do. They just like a toy because they like it, and to be honest, sometimes that's good enough of a reason.
WheelJack writing his name on Grimlocks foot kinda reminds me of how parents write the child´s name on the tag of their shoes when they go to Daycare, so they don´t get mixed up with the others.
That's a very good way to engage with your child. You're helping her learn how to express herself, and describe things, really important for that stage in her development. And she's going to want to learn more, because you are very patient with her and you're encouraging her.
for someone with lazy in their name you're probably the hardest working transformers reviewer on the platform. toy reviews have no business being this high quality. thank you for your service ♥️
Okay, I can see the difference of a regular review from watching this. It was really touching hearing you and your daughter talk about Dinobot. Makes me tear-up a little bit.
the torso rocking on the pin joint is a very common issue it seems across the entire mold. but i do love the back to the future idw silliness you had going on with gigawatt XD
@@elitegamer21005 yeah! Even in portuguese they got an ok voice for him, I wish I could say that for Megs, it's like I'm hearing the Teenage servant version of him, both ways!!!
@@elitegamer21005: yeah, the voices probably bugged me more than any of the other changes made to the old BW cast, but chopperface's voice was surprisingly tolerable despite sounding nothing like the original. Definitely leagues better than the simpering toady they turned rexy-megs into.
@Austin C Not really. A majority of kids would prefer electronics over figures now. Hasbro knows this, which is the reason why they stopped making their figures like tanks, because they know these figures will most likely end up on a shelf for the majority of their life.
Mannnnn you've climbed the ranks to being my fav tf reviewer. Your work just overwhelmingly drips with quality. All those shots take a lot of patience to animate. It's really nice to see someone having fun with the work they do while improving each time. Keep up the good work man!
I love how you consult one of your daughters I had to figure and I love the hell out of it I have some similar issues I just don't know about my waist though
The joint issues you have with dinobot are so much different than mine. On my copy, the only joints that are loose are the elbows, and everything else is somewhere between perfect and a bit too tight
Hearing your daughter's opinions on Dinobot was precious. Little kid me probably had similar to say back in the 90s. Overall I think this guy is good. I'll probably pick him up sometime. I agree that joint tolerances that are all over the place is annoying but he just looks too good. Feels almost like a mini masterpiece to me.
My copy of Dinobot is a bit loose too. Might be worth looking into possibly doing a video on how to tighten up the joints, as it would DEFINITELY make the animating process less painful for you.
I think your segment with your daughter sums up my own love for this toy, despite sharing the same issues and frustrations (plus one, getting the feet through the tail stem going into dino mode) and what I look for in the figures I choose to get. Maybe I never really left that mindset from around that age or a little older than 5. Dinobot's frustrating parts ultimately cannot come close to outweighing the fact that he's a good blend of playability and looks, both in terms of realistic animal sculpting and a robot mode that show which character this undoubtedly is, as well as feel. It's a nice looking 90's raptor, it's a neat figure to play with, issues aside, and it both looks and FEELS like the Dinobot from the show. If I had to suspect, it's for similar reasons as to why you chose to stick to Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus just as I have. Also, RIP your Gigawatt :'((
Your oldschool G1 bumpers between segments always bring a smile to my face, they take me back to watching the G1 (or 'Generation 2'...) on VHS after my dad recorded it from his cable.
There's one ever present thought whenever I look at this figure: "I'm never going to get a feathered Dinobot because pop culture's idea of Dinosaurs is stuck in the 90s" my only hope is the Rise of Beasts movie
DINOBOT!!! YES!!! I love this guy, and the robot mode is fantastic, but there are so many little things in the beast mode that irk me. The circular pupils, the overbite, the hands as you mentioned, the upward curve of the tail... the latter two elements make him look all too birdlike. (And yes, I know of the link between dinosaurs and modern birds, but it still doesn't look right.) You DID manage to give him a good run cycle, despite the lack of appropriate hip articulation, so be proud of that. :) 9:18 - The best shot Waspinator ever got on anyone... just so Dinobot could then STOMP on him on the way down. I love it. lol Abigail's Thoughts - Omfg, that is adorable. Please don't let her be a one-off! lol 13:06 - THERE'S the right transformation sound sequence. I love the classic EE-OOH-AHN-OH-ERR of G1, but hearing it on all the beasties in the Kingdom TV show was... weird. I'm sorry that your particular figure has the joint inconsistency that it does. Mine's pretty tight all around, so... yeah. Apparently they decided to keep Earthrise's quality control for this sequel toyline. :/
I did my best despite the limitations haha. I asked of she wanted to do it again, i think she's shy actually seeing herself in a video, so we'll see if it happens again lol
I agree with the joint inconsistency My copy of dinobot's right arm is so loose it cant stay up at all on its own but his thigh and waist rotation are almost impossible to move without messing up everything else
that's the one thing that really sticks out about the Beast Wars characters they're really out of scale since technically they're supposed be like micromasters being closer to human size.
Or maybe it's the G1 that are, _"out of scale,"_ at least if the netflix series is anything to go by. The characters on the show are all roughly the same scale to each other as in the toy-line, but prehistoric earth, primarily the trees, all seemed to be in scale to the BW cast. It makes the G1 cast look undersized, but then again, since they are all still cybertronian modes it's not like they need to be big enough for humans to ride in either.
The part where the waist wobble is like that for ALL copies. That being said, it is still "safe" as the waist is secure in so I hoped it doesn't break anytime soon.
Don't know how workable it would be in getting it on the loose joints, since I don't own a Dinobot, but I found the pledge floor polish helped with the, notoriously, loose joints on my Sky Lynx's wings. Now they can carry themselves, not drop at the slightest touch from dry spaghetti noodle, and hold a pose. Also helped increase friction on his tabs to keep his shuttle butt plugged in.
I dunno if you've seen kingdom yet but the scale is completely different now. Now all the beast wars characters are actually bigger than the g1 characters. Rhinox is HUGE.
Having owned a Kingdom Dinobot figure since release in Australia (I'm in US so yeah), I'm surprised you mentioned it can hold in a stand port for bot mode, which is awesome. However, I do share your stance on the tail shield part not easily fitting into his hands, which is more of a pain for me since I'm not a stop motion animator. However, I did make a solution for that, which is fold up his shield to tail mode (sword preferred to be in hand at the time) and plug it into where the tail goes in dino mode. It's not the best looking solution, but it's an easy place to put it so not to lose it and it can also double as it's own stand so the figure isn't falling over!
On one trip to the store, I got both Kingdom Dinobot and Netflix Deep Cover. I honestly expected to be enthralled with Dinobot, but I surprisingly got a lot more enjoyment out of Deep Cover. I might get more enjoyment out of him at some point, but Dinobot’s transformation really confused me, mostly though due to me not understanding the instructions. I might make Grimlock look like a professor sometimes, but I genuinely had trouble figuring that thing out.
I like kingdom Megatron but two hinges are so tight on mine that it is literally impossible for me on my own to transform him. I put him in a cool pose in Dino mode and haven’t touched him since I got him. Shame… I heard so many good things about him!
It’s funny you mention the lack of accurate scaling when it comes to the kingdom Maximals and Autobots. That’s not an issue in Kingdom since the Maximals and Predacons were increased in size to make them just as big as the Autobots and Decepticons.
lol There's an upcoming episode of Beast Shorts that uses a very similar joke to that whole Dinobot and Grimlock bit, but it's a knock knock joke version lol
