Every year a small town of Sonkajaervi in Finland hosts the International Wife
Carrying Championships. During this competition, husbands have to carry their wives along the track with various obstacles.
The track is 250 m long and features several obstacles on land and a 1-m deep water pool. According to the rules, the participants can carry their wives or the neighbours.
The wife should be at least 17 years old and weight minimum 49 kilos. If the wife is lighter, she should carry an additional rucksack. There are different types of carrying: piggyback, over the shoulder, or Estonian-style when a wife hangs upside-down with the legs around her husband's shoulders and holds his waist.
The only equipment is a helmet and a belt. Two couples start
simultaneously and run as fast as they can. The winning couple is
the one that completes the course in the shortest time. In addition
to the main prize, the most entertaining couple, the strongest
carrier, and the best costumes are awarded as well.

The 🥇 winners nailed the technique.
The wives wrapping their hands around her knees instead of his stomach helped him tremendously. She wasn't dragging him back and he didn't need to fight her gravity. All he had to do was stabilize his running and carry her weight. Well done to all winners
The one on 4:44 was pretty bad as he had to hold his wife's legs, making himself waste more energy.

"@tieofdnfk8017" It is also more humiliating and degrading and can have its own hazards. The woman has to be upside down and have her face in the man's butt. The woman's butt is upward at least. And believe me, having your head upside down in water means that the water will go down your nostrils as it is aided by gravity. The man may be waist deep in the pool but the woman will have her head below the surface and all you need is for your head to be submerged to your nose so as to drown. Also if the woman loses her grip she will fall on her head. The man feels a pull on his shoulders with the woman's knees against them. .
The couple who did piggy back had courage to do it differently, and I admire it, but also, maybe the woman may not be able to hold herself upside down if she has arthritic legs hips or arms (or maybe had recent hip surgery) and piggy back is more comfortable for her.
What if the wife were bigger and stronger and could carry the man? Would that be allowed?
So the husband doesn't have to hold the wife's legs like in a normal piggyback.

The butt carries more weight, so it will be easier to rest on the husband shoulder to allow less weight on his wstes to allow him run

Well the heavier the woman, the more beer you get. I guess if you are a bodybuilder or someone who has a lot of muscle you can carry a 100kg woman
the thing is if you manage to carry a larger woman to victory you get more beer as a reward 🤷♀️

I did one of these things one time (not this one but just a fun thing with a bunch of people). A lot of them carried their wives all different ways. My wife is 5’8” and built like an hourglass, weighs 150 pounds. The other wives all weighed less and were shorter. I did a fireman carry that we trained in the Army, and I won the race. The fireman carry has the person on your shoulders instead of on your back. It felt like she weighed half of that. The other guys killed their backs.
Looked like one couple was trying the fireman carry. She forgot how to climb back on after the pool plunge.
Showed this to my wife and we both had a laugh. 😂 Maybe she can carry me on her back, lol.

I was thinking that it looks fun and a go way to laugh. My husband packs grizzly bear, moose and sheep on his back up and down mountains, I have no doubt he could carry me like this! He most likely wouldn’t though.😂

I did this with my 6 year old daughter down a rocky trail in the Vosges mountains because she was too tired to run down to the valley to catch the last train after the 20th stage of 2023 Tour de France.
She is only 20 kg but that was more longer than 250m... '^_^
But I must confess we missed the train...

It is very clear. Some of them won't leave the water alive.

I think countries like Finland and Norway have long since figured out the key to happiness, and this is definitely on of those things. Hats off the to the organizers, fans and contestants. It seems quite physical for both the husbands and wives. But it seems they had a fun time.

Do you know that you are very insultive here? It is not only Islam that permits polygamy. It is more of a tradition and self-decision all over the world. My father wasn't a Muslim. He had five wives. Most of the men in most African towns and villages had more than one wife. Some still have more than one. In some parts of Israel, polygamy is practised till today. Please do your research promptly before you demonise Muslims. I am a Christian.

Me too! Just having looked at the rules, it turns out there's no genders specified (the "wife" in this instance is just a term for the person being carried) and the couples don't need to me married either. Still, there could be a class where women do the carrying.

There is a rule that says if the weight is light, you run with the backpack on your back, so I could see some people actually carrying the backpack.
I was really surprised to see people running at incredible speeds even though they were carrying their wives on their backs.
It was nice to be able to watch the game.

This is what I have been saying. Each man should be able to carry his wife and run, in case anything happens. It doesn't have to do with weight. My principle is that I should be able to carry my wife during an emergency.
