The best Bowser battles are about getting away from him, not engaging in a direct fight, like the original. That is why I say 3d Land and New SMB Wii are my favorites.

Angel Aguilar Very True. I remember playing 3D Land and thinking 'wouldn't it be cool if bowser climbed back up after you knock him into the lava' and then 3D World just went ahead and did it. I never felt like the Cat Bowser fight was all that difficult, but it is still pretty epic and memorable.

From these bowser battles, I think Bowser could’ve had a really cool neutral b in smash bros. Press neutral b once and it’s a single fireball. Hold neutral b and it’s the flame breath. Press neutral b and hold up causes him to shoot above and around him like a circle, and continuously pressing neutral b would shoot multiple fire balls.
I still like the old school Mario games the best, especially Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island was great too.
While the cat Bowser's design was a little weird-looking, I really like the idea of Bowser using the same power-ups the player's been getting in the last battle. Makes it almost like fighting a rival character rather than just a big lumbering monster.

I think you should have included Yoshi Island game on the SNES as well. You do technically fight Bowser at the end of that game. Even if you don't play *AS* Mario, it can still be considered a variant of the Mario platformer formula and was called called Super Mario World 2. Also, in 1995 it did add to the Bowser fighting sub-genre as the intro to fighting browser in a separate foreground/background, and the Magi-Kupa powder enhancement for Bowser. So it did contribute to the evolution of Bowser fights.
Same with World. It was released in 1991

I love bowser so much he's my favorite thing in the whole world. Love this video I've watched it like 10,000 times! Too bad I can't like it 10,000 times. That's not how utube works😔. But I love bowser SO much! I just feel like he's misunderstood. I don't even think of him as an enemy or boss or villain. He cares about his minions, his son, the koopalings, etc. he also spends so much time rebuilding his castle pretty much daily in the mushroom kingdom. Now, would a real villain do that? No! They would just b planning their next plan to take over! I just feel like he needs more appreciation.
I think the Super Mario 3D Land battle was my favorite. It was the first time a boss battle felt like an extension of the regular platforming gameplay instead of a minigame. I like the battle in Super Mario Bros Wii too for the same reasons.

That was a King Boo fight, the "Bowser" that appears in that game was created by him to fight Luigi.

Super Mario World revolutionized Browser Battles, before that all you had to do was get around him to win. First Mario game where you had to use skill and reflexes to actual beat him.

Man those boss battles from Super Mario Galaxy and New SMB Wii bring back such great memories from my childhood. After the mundane levels I'm so used to from Mario Maker, I forgot a Bowser fight could be so innovative and fun.

Super Mario 3D Land disrespected Bowser hard. He falling to his death in slow mo, then gets hit in the head twice in head with falling bricks. I felt really bad for him but it was really funny when I saw it lol.

He'd be dead _long_ before he got there. Hell, technically speaking, I doubt there'd be much left before he even got close, but I don't think Nintendo wanted to show that.

Pretty sure that Bowser is straight up immortal, and his bones are indestructible. I think getting knocked into the sun is probably like a hot summer day for him as his flesh is roasted off. Then Bowser Jr. (or one of his many lackeys) fishes him out with a very long fishing rod. Because this is Mario, and nothing radiates heat and fishing rods work in lava.
