HBK’s kick out at Mania 25 is the greatest kick out of all time, not even close. The amount of investment in that moment of the match is unmatched. That was the one moment they really had you believe the streak was done. Insane storytelling.

If we're talking about the best kick out artists I think Angle has to be the best to do it, when it comes to that 2.99 and that gut insistict he is unmatched. Taker has a mystique and wounded gunslinger vibe to his kickouts, but Angle has this feral intensity to his that he can make work cuz of his smaller size and agility in the ring

for me hbk and angle takes the top 2 spots. the reason why hbk vs angle wrestlemania was awesome is because simple reason, its hbk vs angle. every near count fall they do is so awesome. no need drama or streak needed. just 2 awesome performer and you have a 5 star rating match

Most of their matches and kickouts consisted of referee bumps
Fun fact. when refs are counting for a pin and it’s not the supposed to end that match, the refs will ball their fists or change up the style they hit the mat. One good example I can give you that you can see clearly is referee chad pat, all of them do it

I simulated a universe mode on 2k14 for like 10 years in game and got some wild ass results. I had a roster of like 30 created wrestlers on top of the actual in-game roster. You are absolutely right that some crazy things happened at PPVs. A friend and I made a joke created wrestler tag time tag team of guys that came out to diva entrances and music (my friend was gay, just to clarify) and that joke team ended up being fucking undefeated for like 2 years, holding the tag team titles hostage. Everytime we thought they would lose, they wouldn't. They would kick out of like 8 finishers.
I also had a created wrestler I made that was basically a blend of Randy Orton and Mankind with a customized moveset, dude held a midcard title hostage for 3.5 years. Same story as above, everytime I thought he was gonna lose, he would kick out.

Anytime you heard the announcers start screaming "NEW CHAMPION!" or so-and-so "WON THE TITLE!", you knew a kickout was coming. I hated when that would happen, but still it made for some really dramatic kickouts. BTW, 10:02 that was a 3-count lol

This might be a WWE exclusive list but I will add Okada in the best kick out artist list. He has a sixth sense when it comes to kickouts.
I always hated the way Earl Hebner counted. On a kickout, he'll always kind of lunge over off his knees. The only wwe ref i can remember that never fabricated a kickout count was Teddy Long. He'd always keep his position and hold that hand for an extra second an inch above the mat.

I think this goes without saying, but these false finishes are made 10x better when you watch the whole match (not to discredit your work or anything man). The energy that surrounds the match as it leads up to those moments is everything.
