    The twist was that this whole time, Omniman wasn't hoping Mark got his powers, he was hoping he WOULDN'T.
    That way, Mark and Debbie will both eventually die off, and Nolan can then continue his conquest.
    But Mark having his powers would mean living for 1000+ years, which is far longer than the Empire expects Nolan to have weakened the planet. Now Nolan has to continue his mission, and either get Mark on his side, or neutralize him as a threat.

      I don’t he ever necessarily forgot but had Mark not gotten his powers, Nolan could’ve just lived on Earth with his family and carried out his plans after their deaths-which is what I think is what I think he was going for. Everything started when Mark got powers and Omni Man realized things would never be same. I still don’t get why he didn’t raise Mark differently if he already assumed his half Viltrumite DNA would give him those abilities. He was shocked but quite knowledgeable about it so begs the question of why he didn’t do things differently?

    • @Regless0000
      @Regless0000 2 года назад +2

      @@ambassadorbruh1200 I might be misremember but I think viltrumite abilities usually start showing up early puberty. Mark was an unusually late bloomer.
      As for why his didn't raise Mark differently, He didn't know if Mark would get his powers for sure or not. The over-simplification human cells have two copies of each chromosome. One from each parent. Genes are either dominant or recessive. The dominant gene will basically override the recessive gene (Brown eyes overriding blue eyes for example). Dominance doesn't control what gets passed on as much. So in Mark's case, even though he has Viltrumite DNA and it's very potent (Dominant) if he had kids he could still end up pass only the human set he got from his mom on. Or the Viltrumite DNA could be recessive when paired with Mark's new spouse although I imagine that's more a concern when dealing with new species. That's why Nolan wanted to wait until he was sure.

    Mark raising his hands might be one of the bravest choices anybody ever made in a superhero story, which is especially impressive since usually those are choices made by people who *aren't* superheroes themselves.
    I sobbed helplessly first time I saw Mark answer his father's question. And it gets even worse when he asks "... dad?" Because he's hurt and he needs his father.
    I loved Black Samson's "test" of the Guardians - to see if they'd stick up for the least popular among them, if they really were committed to each other. If he'd been serious, he wouldn't have joined in cleaning up with the others.
    I'd never heard "We Are Infinite" until this, but talk about perfect use of licensed music. Like the whole world of this story letting out its breath all at once.

That would make her flip-floping feel genuine. It would also make her taking back Mark feel so much more impactful. When Debbie revealed what she knew to Nolan, told him she didn't trust him, he was pissed off. He punched a hole into a wall in his own home because, as disciplined as he is, he could not fully contain that anger. The next day, was just so pissed instead of walking outside to fly away, he just blasted off straight up out of the living room. But he did not so much as raise a hand to Debbie.
    While fighting the kaiju (tentacle monster thing) with Mark, did you see his face? When The Immortal came in and kept preventing him from helping Mark as Mark was getting beat by that monster? He was afraid for Mark. Omniman knew how dangerous that beast was, he was afraid it might actually be able to kill his boy.
    The whole rampage of slaughtering civilians while fighting Mark? He was trying to convince not only Mark, but himself, that all of this was necessary. He knew how horrible he was being. And in the end, when it came down to his son or his people, he chose his son. But he also knew at that point that he had done so many awful things, quite publicly, that there was no "going back to normal", he burned that bridge pretty thoroughly. And still, he chose his son over his people, and left.
    Invincible and Arcane have one interesting thing in common: a villain who's weak point is their child.

    Invincible ran for 144 issues as a comic book. One of my favorites. This series was just mostly the first arc, there is so much more, and many twists and turns that kept it fresh. I don't know how it's approached in the comics as I haven't read it, but I hope there are some things about the mom. She is the reason Mark is so caring and selfless, because she has so much humanity and empathy and she taught him all this. Consequently, she is also the reason Omni man stayed for so long, and didn't destroy earth; as we see in the baseball scene, she instilled in him the empathy and love for humans he tries to fight away in his last scene
    It broke my heart to see her end up feeling betrayed and like all of it was meaningless and a lie, not seeing the sheer strength and impact of her love and compassion. It literally saved earth

    Mark truly is incredible. This was straight up the most heroic thing I have seen done in superhero media. Sure it takes courage to fight for what's right, but usually heroes in these kinds of stories, can get a few punches in too. Here, our boy has the courage to go into a hopeless fight, and no matter how near to death he gets beaten, he stayed true to the right thing. At a point he had to realize that his dad was going to kill him, but he never said "alright, have it your way". That's more inspiring than just knocking out some big bad guy. Mark is invincible, in that he gets his shit kicked in every other fight, but he always gets back up afterwards.
    God I hope season 2 manages to be as good as this. This adaptation is wildly different from the source material, so it's pointless to guess how things will go. I just hope they do to seasons 2 and 3, what they did here.

      She didn't blackmail anyone to get Mark's number, William straight up offered to give it to her. Did she blackmail another student? Yes. It was the guy that beat Mark down, Todd, which he did because Mark tried to stop him from sexually harassing Amber. All she did was make him apologize to Mark and give Mark her number. That was a power move. She put the bully/harasser in his place, and demonstrated to Mark respect (by forcing the punk to apologize) and interest (making the punk give him Amber's number). (She really put the Todd in his place. Not only did she use her power over him to make him apologize to someone he wronged, it was the guy that tried to defend her from his unwanted advances. Who she also forced Todd to give her phone number to, clearly demonstrating how uninterested in Todd she was.)
      Possessive? Don't see it. She was curious to get to know him, though. Guy was an enigma to her, she wanted to figure him out.
      And she did. She also treated Mark as if she believed his excuses. Either she was right about her guess and Mark was just bad at lying, or she was wrong and just fed her stupid excuses. When it got to the point where she couldn't take the shit anymore, she broke up with him. After everything she'd tolerated, being treated like she wasn't important, being fed obvious lies... She was done. She felt that if she really was important to him he would have told her the truth, but he didn't.
      But, hey, teenagers. Teenagers suck. Mark's first relationship. First relationships often don't go well, people are just learning. And Mark was doing it with the difficulty cranked way up. Not sure about Amber's dating history. At any rate, a lot of guys think Amber was upset that Mark was busy saving people/the world was making him late for dates and such. She wasn't. She was upset because *he was lying to her*. For almost half a year she tolerated it, before she reached a breaking point, and concluded that she obviously wasn't important enough to Mark for him to reveal the truth.
      As I see it, they both fucked up. Her expectations were too high and Mark treated the relationship as a hobby.

    I loved this show so much, literally every character in this show except amber is so amazing and easy to relate to, but they slaughtered amber so badly, she is just a walking red flag.
    1) She blackmailed a dude as her introduction, it initially comes off as funny, but its actually messed up if you think about it, bully or not.
    2) When mark didnt show up to her family dinner, she said "I had already dumped you that night" when either A, she already knew he was a super hero, and for HIM to get beaten to that point, clearly he was doing something more important than soup kitchen volunteering. Or B, she didnt know yet, and HE WAS FREAKING HIT BY A BUS, but she still instantly brings it back to all about her and how he hurt her by missing her dinner while he's still literally bruised and limping from his accident
    3) She belittles him in front of all those people and his friends for abandoning her at the college, when she ALREADY KNEW he was invincible, didn't abandon her, and just saved their lives. She is publicly humiliating him in hopes of emotionally manipulating him into giving up his secret, and it worked! And then despite doing that, she got what she wanted but still played it too little too late to keep him in the lower role.
    4) She comes back to him after he just found out his dad is a geocidal sociopath, who lied to him his whole life, and just beat him to a inch of his life, using his literal body as a weapon to kill thousands of people in front of the entire world, and says "guess I wasn't the only one being lied to." So she just compared his fathers level of dishonesty to marks, basically saying, "look, thats what it feels like to be lied to, now that you know how I felt we can get back together because now you empathize with me." He literally just experienced one of the most traumatic things I can even imagine, and she still put herself in the role of the victim there, and like she is willing to take him back.
    Like holy crap she is so unfathomably toxic in her relationships. She's a good person with how she helps people and all that, and there is respect to be given for that, but the way she interacts with mark is so unhealthy it makes it hard to watch. Mark did make the mistake of dragging her along, specifically by continuing to promise that he was gonna do better, with no actual plan or ability to be able to do better, he was basically just hoping for better luck, which wasn't okay. When she initially started dumping him after he missed her moms dinner, he should have either told her his identity then (which i think was way to early and a horrible idea) or at least said, "You're right that you deserve to have your time respected. But I care about you. The help I do with my dad is confidential, so I cant really explain why im late sometimes, but I can promise that what we are doing is really helping people, and its important work. I cant promise to do better, but I can promise to never be late unless its incredibly important, and never blow you off irresponsibly." or whatever crap, and if that was enough for her great, if not they break up there. So mark isnt perfect, but its his first relationship, let alone he's still learning to be a super hero, so i think he did really well, and he deserves better than amber, and better than to be hated on from all his friends like he was the bad buy

      note how they can't just ignore it and move on....
      the reason for this is rather simple, the Amber question shows a level of inherent bias in a certain section of the population that believe it's ALWAYS okay when a woman does something and its ALWAYS bad when a man does something
      even if they make the identically opposite arguments for one compared to the other. It's sort of a clue when you know that the person you're talking to doesn't have the ability or understanding of representing things evenly.
      and like I said its' perfectly okay to do this, women are hypergamous by nature and they seek to make themselves both infallible and victimised at the same time. To me the thing with the zombie army is pretty good cause Cecil said they were dead soldiers so it isn’t to bad they put their lives on the line to protect so I’m sure a bunch of them would be willing to be join it after death it’s like donating your organs but to help humanity!!

    I find that Nolan's point of view is obviously morally lacking, but no one has offered him any alternative that makes sense.
    No one who eats meat or squashes annoying mosquitoes has any moral high ground to complain to a guy who is basically just removing anthills from a landscape to create a Mall, a Hospital and/or a parking lot.
    And he happens to think and act in a way that's actually kind of compassionate to the ants, all the while still putting his own species above.
    Nolan's character makes perfect sense and I think that if others had seen him for who he is then maybe the case for Earth would have been easier. "Look, I get it that you guys are superior beings. But even as pets, don't you want to love and care for your pets?"

    • @chinafuture6484
      @chinafuture6484 2 года назад +1

      Your augment falls apart. Omniman was going to make the world better. Now everyone who dies from cancer, starvation, or war is blood on Mark's hands. Omniman was morally superior because he would have done the most good.

    • @androkguz
      @androkguz Год назад

      @@chinafuture6484 Yeah, he clearly wasn't actually going to make the world better for humans. You can tell it's just Viltrumite propaganda because of how little he values them. He could give them all the good things without joining them into the empire

    You know, if I was Mark, my response after that bit with the woman in her child, the response I felt in my gut watching this scene? "You think they're pathetic? You're pathetic! You've forsaken the only thing that actually matters, compassion, for some ugly, lame, disgusting, transient faith in 'strength'? You're nothing. You're less than nothing. You're another problem to be solved."

    That was different.
    Seeing Milena break before Lola, I mean.
    To be fair, Nolan was offering Mark a pretty sweet deal in the beginning. An army of Viltrumites forcibly taking what they want is not what you want descending on your planet.
    Cecil threw everything he had at Nolan, repeatedly, and he managed to get a nosebleed out of it.
    We've also seen Nolan savage an entire planet that had more advanced tech than Earth.
    Hopefully, you girls don't make the mistake of thinking Nolan is the strongest.
    Because he's not even close.

    Nolan is actually more like 2500 years old. Imagine living 2000+ years being indoctrinated into a way of thinking. Crazy to think that 20 years on Earth will change that. That's 0.8% of his life!

    The question remains: What possible value could a planetful of weak, vulnerable, ephemeral creatures like us have to the invulnerable, overpowered, immortal people of Viltrum?
    I loved seeing the New Guardians of the Globe stepping up on their own, and come together. At least something good came from Omni.
    So... new reaction recommendations. I would very much like to see the two of you react to Reacher. I feel it's something you would enjoy.

    What is truly Invincible about Mark is his heart. Even after everything that Omniman has done to him, he still has the love in his heart to call him Dad. The strength of that love is what broke Omniman. His willpower was driven by hate, Mark's was driven by love. In the end, Omniman never stood a chance against that kind of power
