Love how Mike throws in Robin Trowers “Too Rolling Stoned” than goes to Modest Mouse’s “Float On” and then to “Smoke on the Water” the next but still keeps it well rounded
I swear to god Lemmo is like Dr Doolittle and we are just witnessing him speaking to whatever guitar he picks up in it's native tongue. Sometimes it's out of left field and unexpected but it always feels right for whatever guitar he's playing.
The Fender American Original series are among the best, non custom shop, production guitars. As a lefty I am glad Fender produced left-handed versions of the Original 50’s Tele and Strat, and the Original 60s Strat. Wish they had offered the 60s Tele as a lefty.
Lets hope the manufacturers do pay closer attention to quality, for their own continuity. A new $2,000 to $3,000 guitar should be very good quality. I think they should support local music shop dealers a little more, too. Buying directly from the manufacturer's website is a slippery slope, because you may think you're saving a little money but it's not really worth it for most people when that available product comparison, final quality inspection and setup would all be missing.
@@jessesmith2906 I love the vintage look, feel, tone, and specs of the American Original series. I bought the guitar for these reasons and have not been disappointed. I believe the American Pro ii is the latest in Fender's line of guitars essentially replacing the American Standards...not that there's anything wrong with this whatsoever. It really comes down to what you're into. If I was forced to pick - Am Original...
I have the Olympic White AO 60s and it's fantastic. Sound, feel, fit and finish is just ridiculously good. I love nitro finishes and how they age, just know this one has a very thin finish. Brand new out of the case, I took the neck off for truss rod adjustment, and the nitro flaked around the neck plate. It may have been a hair over tightened at the factory being the root cause, but still had my first chip in the first 24 hours of ownership. These will relic QUICKLY! However, that's what gives it character in my opinion. I actually just played mine for the past hour and a half and I"m still smiling. It certainly rivals my custom shop in feel and playability. Thinking about grabbing a 50's model to compliment it.
Yep, the nitro on them is pretty delicate and thin. I have 2 AO Strats and I've worn through the lacquer on both of them at the top of the belly carve. That's a great thing for people who like the way nitro wears, because these definitely do. The necks are surprisingly different between the two. One is a 2017 model and the neck is thinner (but still very vintage-feeling). The other is a 2020 model and has a noticeably fuller neck. Both sound and play fantastic.
The nitro on the back of the neck melts in my hands so I sanded that off first thing. Other then that love how it sounds and plays. The finish on mine is paper thing so it already is all dinged up but I dig it
How do you decide what your going to play? I know some is based on a specific guitar a specific artist uses but how do you pick what songs? Because you sure know a lot of them!!!
I have one in Olympic white, I love the neck profile and the neck pickup. To me the bridge pickup is the most brittle and weak I’ve heard. I had a lollar s special in a different guitar, may throw that in at some point. Otherwise it’s a guitar that I’ll never get rid of. And mine is 7 lbs. 11 oz. There are some light ones out there you just have to look.

Is it true that the Fender American Originals are getting discontinued this year? The Fender AO 50's Stratocaster is my favorite Strat I ever played (aside from a real 1956 I played once at a store).
Beautiful guitar. I gotta look these up. Shell pink is prolly my number 2 or 3 favorite color. Excellent playing as always and thank you and Jen for documentation and commentary. You and Michael seem to have a great chemistry, a good banter. Thanks for making my day.
@@mattmanley7118 good question… strong possibility yes (as fender is typically good for that every 4-6 years) but also good possibility no…With these crazy times, it may be less practical for them to produce guitars like these in production line numbers (with custom shop like neck carves and nitro finishes taking much much longer to produce- they may go to reserving these specs for custom shop only in order to ramp up production of the standard product line that sell more due to lower prices). Just my theory.

Anyone compared the necks of this to the Robert Cray Sig (MiM?) My RC is my current #1 and the reason I love it is the vintage sound coupled with the neck, which I actually love so much I had it refretted instead of buying a new one. This guitar however may just scratch that itch I have for that vintage tone I love, the great neck, a trem and the quality of a USA strat. Does anyone know if there’s any advantage or why someone would prefer the access to the truss rod at the base of the neck vs on the headstock? Seems like the modern access on headstock makes a lot more sense.
There's no good reason. They are just keeping with the 60s theme. I have this model and I wish the truss rod was at the headstock. That being said, I have never had to adjust it. They are great guitars. I love mine. I got one in 2019.
