I think what everyone is forgetting is that they didn’t just give her up due to lack of money. There was SO MUCH family dysfunction and trauma at the time-they had very little to no support. Butch and April were abusive addicts and greatly affected their decision

EXACTLY! If it was about money, Caitlyn would’ve be anxiety and depression free by now. It was about breaking the cycle and bettering herself! I wish they have gone to college, gain some self worth and confidence by learning a profession.

They were 16 with drug addicted parents, they had no choice but to give up Carly. Not to mention Tyler's dad and Catelynn's mom we're married at the time. Definitely not a great environment to bring up a child. And they didn't know how successful they would become. But I do feel like Cate and Ty got cheated in a way.
Yes...they could have provided financially; but more so it was the unstable environment. All the drinking, drugs, swearing....not a good place for a baby

No wonder cate has had depression all of these years. She did not know she would be this rich and could provide for her own child. She would have never given her up for adoption. Now she knows, she has the feelings of regret to deal with. Aspecially with having 2 other kids after her the feeling of guilt gets bigger. I feel for her. With all the crazieness of the show aside. They are good people! 1 day carly will be able to make her own decisions. So hopefully they will have a better relationship with her in the future. I also do understand where brandon and theresa are coming from. But still, they agreed on an open adoption. So a yearly visit is not too much to ask for. I think it's the least they can do to thank ty and cate for giving them the greatest gift ever!
It's kind of a catch 22. The reason they got on the show is because they were choosing to give their baby up for adoption and MTV wanted to show that side of teen pregnancy. So, had they not chose adoption, they may have never had the success they have now.

@@mandypink7878 yes true! They prob kept them on the show because of the adoption. But none of the castmembers knew they where gonna be such a succes. And get more seasons and the money that came along with it. Now she has the other 2 kids and they manage to feed and cloth them and take them on vacation. Living the "rich" live they have now. But still there's no coming back from that decision. That must hurt! I just feel for her. So sad! 😥
@@jamiepatterson9335 it's not her daughter anymore. It's Theresa's daughter. Obviously Cate will always be the birth mom but Theresa is who Carly knows as her mother. It would not be in Carly's best interest to be ripped away from the only mother she's ever known for selfish reasons.

It's not easy for me. That episode ripped me to my core. I sobbed. It was so horrible. I can see why Cate has so much trauma all these years later
I swear! I would love to be in their heads now. As a mother I couldn’t imagine, but definitely love the option. It’s amazing they are together.

She wouldve had kept had her background been better where she had support tyler was able to break through his curse because his mom cultivated and gave him accessible communication to help decipher now shes like stuck in bondage when shes out in freedom. When they say parents dont affect their kid thats a lie it plays on out through adulthood. ANd abandoment is the biggest tears for alot of people and people pretending like they cant see what they caused onto others.
I think she probably feels like I think I couldve made it had I kept her. Tyler was trying to knock some sense into her after birth but, she pretty much made up her mind Tyler looked so crushed.
I swear Tyler is going to look 12 years old forever.

I think he looks very grown now in comparison to his first episode. Like, before he looked like some juvenile inexperienced child, but now, he looks like a man.

They were living with drug addict parents at the time. If it wasent for the show cates mom would have never got clean. Tyler moms was annoyed with cate staying over all the time. Cate and tys relationship was also on the rocks
Had they not, they likely would not be together. They likely would be druggies (their parents paved the path) they likely would not have their other two and likely would not have been on OG because OG chose them to be the adoption story. So no, I do not think you are correct with that one. Missing her and wishing they'd kept her- two very different things.
Jennifer Ellis but look at it this way. If they kept Carly they most likely wouldn't of still be together and Nova & Vaeda wouldn't be here today. 8 out of 10 teen dads don't marry the mother of their child. All the other moms decided to kept their babies and now they're not together with their baby-daddy (except Mackenzie but now her and Josh are separated) but I'm not saying that it's ALWAYS like that but it's still possible there are some moms I know that their first child as a teen and had stayed with the father of their first child. But all of them end up breaking up or divorced the father of their child. I know one that had her daughter at 17 and had 2 more kids with her baby-daddy (they have a son who is diagnosed with MD just like Leah's daughter Ali) and another daughter. They were never married but they were engaged and had 3 kids together but then they broke up. This mom then met someone new a few months after she split from her baby-daddy and now they're married and now she has another daughter with that guy. She's also a RUclips Mom.

I have so much love and respect for my daughters’ first mom. I can’t even put into words! Addiction, mistakes, abusing and neglecting them in the past; does not erase the fact that she ended up choosing me to be their mom. That is so humbling and I never felt so honored by someone in my whole life.
I think this is the number 1 regret in their lives. I know they wouldn't have given her up if they could do it over

Yes and that is what is most painful. They keep hurting themselves. Because at one moment in time you have to look at the reality as it is. You cannot look into the future. Thats most sad of all. I just wish they will realize that coz you make decisions based on reality, not years from now / back then. They should be proud. ♡
Leighanne Palladino yes there is a lot of regret but you have to look at what they were going through at the time both there parents were addicted to drugs there own relationship was on the rock and if the would have kept her they most likely not be together and there other kids would not even existed she did what she had to do to give her baby like she said a better life then what she has and or had ( big of there parents have been clean for a few year at the time of there season they were on drugs really bad )
Yup and do you really think catelynn would be any better with Carly than she is with Nova ? She just whines constantly how she misses and loves Carly when she has a little girl right there that she just ignores and sits around feeling sorry for herself. Catelynn is a lazy woman who will use the depression card for a excuse for everything and when Carly turns 18 she will be a adult and finally catelynn can have her and I bet you anything Catelynn will not be any better mother to her then, but influence her to be a bum like her.

Tyler is exceptional. The definition of exceptional. He has taken on being a healthy partner/father/birth father/human being when he had no example to follow after. He shows everyone in his life forgiveness and grace even when it’s not easy. He’s a great guy. Has been fun seeing him develop over the years.

Daniellec Clarke I think it’s really because she regrets placing her for adoption because now she has the means to raise her. So hearing Teresa and Brandon talk is frustrating to her. I also think it’s weird that they are showing their faces though... like why? You wanted to stay out of the public eye but now you have given the public a clear image of your faces so obviously when you are out and about with Carly and Graham people are going to recognize you two. 🤷🏻♀️ doesn’t make any sense

Not only that but if you go back and rewatch their whole journey on teen mom they were promised a lot out of the open adoption that just wasn't doable in the end. Because they were so young they didn't question it as much as they should have with the people who were adopting thier baby but with the case worker. I know they never wanted to give her up you can tell even back then but they were in a horrible place and teen mom og wasn't even on the books yet. They didn't know and in my opinion they did the right thing with such uncertain circumstances they had at the time.

I agree, it seems like Catelynn resents being called Carly's birth mother but as others have said the term is correct. I do think it seemed like Theresa was trying to drive the point home by repeating it several times though. However considering how Catelynn and Tyler have repeatedly gone against Brandon and Theresa wishes and felt entitled to do so as her "parents" I can't say that I blame Theresa.
I feel like the way she used it was kind of off putting too though. Like when she said "the birth mother handing her over to me" (or something to that extent) like, she could have just used her name right? Idk, they flash back clips and this clip are all pretty awkward.

La pieuvre Venale that’s not true at all. My father in law was adopted. His birth mother had him at 14. She never regretted giving him a better home. They ended up having a somewhat open adoption situation as well.

I couldn’t imagine just giving birth and only leaving the hospital with my hospital bracelet. What Catelynn and Tyler did was completely selfless and they should be so proud of themselves. Also, Catelynn and Tyler are lucky that they have adopted parents that dedicated their lives to their child and is being a mother and father to Carly because they weren’t able to at the time. The love that Brandon and Teresa have for Carly shows in their eyes and smiles when they talk about her and see her.

@A A she and Tyler had alcoholic and drug addicted parents, were living at the poverty line and didn't have any real support. You think they would be where they are today with that kind of situation? Because add a new baby to all of that, and the fact that they still had two more years of high school to go, and you have two broke, miserable teenagers with a baby stuck in a cycle they would have probably repeated. THEY agreed to go through with the adoption. THEY were counseled by someone who has a degree in this stuff and who had helped place hundreds of babies before, and THEY chose Brandon and Theresa. Nobody forced Catelynn and Tyler to have sex and get pregnant, and nobody forced them to give Carly up. They made adult choices and have to deal with the adult consequences, no matter how old they were at the time.
But then I also think like atleast their still kind of semi interacting with tyler and cate cause honestly they look like the type to be like thankyou fr the baby bye....remember when theresa and them gave them such a hard time ..I wonder do they really keep their gifts for carly

People keep saying they are trying to keep Carly from the cameras. I think they are scared to death that they won't be able to make her birth parents disappear because they are famous now. Jealousy is a very common sentiment among adoptive parents

I mean she is 10 or 11 now, old enough to wonder what it would be like to live with her REAL parents and REAL sisters. Adopted children often report a feeling of 'missing something' growing up
@Imagination Pirate what century do you live in? Cate and Ty were set on adopting and had literally 1000s of couple to choose from. If Brandon and Theresa didn't want to do visits they could have adopted a TRUE orphan, perhaps from another country who otherwise would have languished in an institution until they aged out and were thrown on the streets. But no, the chose a baby with living birth parents, who would have immediately gone to another set of adoptive parents if they backed out. Guess the term saint doesn't mean much these days

@@mascara1777 I believe that stemmed from the fact that they weren't getting visits like they were told they would have so the next best thing was photos. Imo that's still not a reason to pull back or withhold visits. They are/were the adults and they should understand they were just kids when all of this happened. They should have compassion for their situation.

So true. People don't get how sometimes adoptive parents can get a little weird about the child. They must have forgot that in an open adoption theres an agreement that was made and it does not matter how you feel about it you must honor it and be respectful to that child's real parents. They are the ones that are giving a great sacrifice in the end. Not all adoptive parents are saints. At one point there was some serious illegal activity going on through adoption. People taking advantage of un wed and teen mothers. That's one of the reasons it so hard to adopt because of the laws that have been made to protect the child. That stuff still happens today.

yeah that's why Theresa and Brandon wanted to block visits because they didn't want her to always be wondering if the grass was greener on the otherside mentality. I know as a 10 year old kid I would undoubtedly wonder if it would be better living with my 'real' family. In fact adopted kids often report a feeling of 'something missing' as adults
As someone who has almost the exact same situation with being put up for adoption by young teens and having 2 full biological sisters, I honestly never thought about my birth family. My “real” family is my mom and dad who raised me and my sister is the one I grew up with. After meeting them it was weird because to me they are just random people who are in a weird way apart of my family but I don’t know them at all and we are completely different people. They are amazing people but I have no doubt my family Is my family and I never wondered if they weren’t.

I've always felt that the adoption was forced on Catelynn by Tyler.. and that she's going to resent him for sure for pushing her to that decision someday.
His mum forced them to bc at the time Tyler's dad and Cates mom were still married before Tyler's dad went to prison a short time later and they were both on heavy drugs so apparently Tyler's mom forced the adoption bc they couldn't have a baby in that atmosphere
You're right I've been saying this the whole time. Like these people have not watched the 1st season. She's already resented him, that's when she became depressed and they decided to live apart. It's funny seeing these same people who crucified and judged cate so wrongfully watch this 1min clip and go "oh I feel so sorry for cate no wonder she was depressed"

It’s so crazy to realize how two sets of people can be in the same place at the same time, interacting in the same situation yet one set of couple is experiencing the most beautiful gift life can offer, they’re so happy... yet the other set of parents are just completely heartbroken. It’s good and bad all in one.

Financially yes. But she was not able to provide her with stability, maturity, sound mind and overall a healthy early childhood.

I am so disappointed in Butch. To have a son like Tyler who displays his love for his father so much and for butch to not take advantage of his support is just mind blowing.
Idc what anyone says, I feel for Caitlyn and Tyler. More so Caitlyn because i can only imagine (like most people on here) how hard it must have been, but such a noble thing to do for your child. To make sure they are taken care of properly. Bless them all.

I also think Brandon and Teresa didn’t expect Ty and Cate to be in Carly’s life as much as they are. Usually with open adoptions , birth parents are not as consistent and maybe Brandon and Teresa thought bc Ty and Cate were so young , they would eventually stop 🤷🏽♀️ and I’m sure they didn’t say no to the option because they felt bad and wanted a baby ASAP smh and they sitting up here smiling like they nice and shit smh

If they had known they would become multi millionaires from the show, Tyler & Catelyn absolutely would have kept Carly. It just would have been 2-3 tough years
there story is also why MTV picked them up.
Honestly they were able to let the child grow up in a home that loves them, and was able to give her stability the whole time. They have an incredible gift to a wonderful adult couple, and were able to give themselves time to grow and mature. It's a good thing.
I wish they thought longer about their decision. I always knew they were going to regret it.

Seems like she would put all that into making her other two children feel like they matter. Poor Nova is always so scared when they mention Carly, like she has to fight for her place in their lives. So sad.

@@deans9459 every child who has an absent sibling (usually by death) has to deal with this. The parents put the absent child on a pedestal because they don't have to deal with the daily inconveniences of raising that kid

You couldn't of watched the very 1st season. Because it was his idea. He was so persuasive in convincing cate for adoption she finally accepted it. And when she realized that she had placed her baby for adoption because of a boy, her baby father. That truth hurt more than her the adoption because she listened to someone else instead of her self. Trying to make a controlling dude happy thinking that he would leave her if she didn't. Yall gone wake up 1 day and realize Tyler ain't the perfect one
When you’re so young and you agree to an open adoption .. this is what happens. Bc you know they didn’t want to give up Carly but they thought it was the right thing to do. To have a daughter that you see yearly or so and yet can’t take home. Probably the biggest regret and I’m pretty sure that’s why they’re so careless about getting pregnant - they’re trying to fill that void from not having Carly with them and it’s not possible. That’s why You can tell Cate is not as in love with the baby and Nova as much as she is with Carly.

So freaking emotional I don’t think there’s one time I’ve watched that without balling my eyes out. I gave birth a month after my 17th bday and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done and being a mother these past 11 years a single mother for the majority of those years at that, has been the hardest yet rewarding blessing I could ever imagine and I can’t imagine my life any other way. Yes it changes everything and redirects your life but that was my plan god had for me and it was and is the best ever ❤️

Can’t say I was the best mom I made a lot of mistakes and have a lot of regrets, went threw a lot as a teen and young mom but my baby made me to keep going she was what god had planned for me! Btw couldn’t have done it if I didn’t have help from my family, I learnt from the best mom and grandma!

Everyone saying that Cate and Ty would’ve kept her if only they had they known they’d be making copious amounts of $$$ by being cast in this Teen Mom empire.
If they had kept her it’s possible their storyline may not have been chosen for Teen Mom franchise.
Carly will eventually realize and see the 10 (plus) years of documentation that displays their love and regret, and she may choose, on her own, to have a tight knit relationship with her bio fam, and most hopefully, be grateful for the cards she was dealt. She’s been blessed with two sets of parents that will love and support everything she does in life, and hopefully, break the cycle of depression that seems to persists in Cate and Ty’s upbringing.
That may be, but she will also see the drug addict grandfather, Cait not really mothering Nova, and all of the conflict in their lives. She dodged a bullet and she will thank God that she got the parents she did.

You must be very young. There are a lot of variables to consider. Cate and Tyler wanted the best for their child. Being raised by teens still in high school in a household where there is drug a nd alcohol abuse is not the best situation. People can only do so much.
I feel so, so, sorry for them. The didn’t know how rich they would become - at the time their was no social media - reality stars really didn’t make that much money. They made the right decision at the time and were very selfless in their decision - esp cate. But now you can just tell how life cheated her. She has all the funds to provide but she doesn’t have her child. It’s just so so so sad. Makes you realise how unfair and cruel life can be. Especially that they both had two more children together and got married, she must feel the guilt everyday

The strange thing is, out of all the people on Teen Mom Cat and Tyler are the only proper traditional family in wedlock with 3 kids who do not have different mothers and fathers, yet they are the ones who gave a child up for adoption. Plain and simple, Carly has missed out on her mother, father and full bloodied siblings, that will hurt.

Do you think Nova would want to be in an adopted household or with her parents? At the end of the day why would Carly want anything different too?
@Imagination Pirate I meant their unfortunate situation at the time was temporary. The only thing that is going on now is that the adoptive parents are trying to keep Carly from her biological parents, which is sad.
@Imagination Pirate two kinds of parents biological and adopted, there was an agreement for them to at least see Carly at least once a year and the adoptive parents broke that agreement too. You are talking like the child is an ornament or a piece of property and where she belongs, she is not she is a human being that has her own thoughts, feelings, emotions and desires too.

These two young parents Cait & Ty are absolutely fantastic ppl,, I have watched since this whole show started and still continue to .. I was a young mom 21 of four daughters & we watch it together my oldest is 31,28, 27, 26.. these two ppl have put in the hard work, to fix themselves and grow together.. they are both committed to the family unit
Love this couple sooo much. What a blessing all around. As an adoptee, Catlyn and Tyler's sacrifice ( for love) means so much to me.. nothing but pure sweet love right there. Tyler, you were a man before you were a man.. love you both so much. Carly is one blessed child. Brandon and Teresa are amazing.
I know it’s so easy to take the side of Cate and Tyler because we know them so well. But please have empathy for Brandon and Theresa and how they have to process this entire experience too. They are not hypocrites, they are trying to navigate this situation the best they can. It is quite common for open adoptions to become less open as time goes on. Visits are usually frequent in the beginning to allow birth parents to grieve and heal, but as the child gets older it might sometimes be best to make them less frequent. Also Cate and Tyler repeatedly did things to upset B and T and would rarely check in on Carley or send her letters or anything. I’m not saying Cate and Ty are at fault either, it’s just a different kind of family dynamic that they all need to figure out together.

@@chalisemorris1785 That is what Brandon and Theresa wanted in the beginning but agreed upon meeting Catelynn and Tyler to go for an open adoption. It's a hard situation but I often wonder how thier child's birth parents choosing to be on MTV and airing all the details of thier adoption has effected them. I remember an interview years ago where they said that when they went shopping, etc people would come up wanting to see Carly and that they would see people drive slow by thier house, etc. That kind of privacy invasion was something they never asked for.

I'm not going blame Care and Tyler for having mix feelings about the adoption, they have every right to, but Brandon and Theresa tried to work with them, but they decided they didn't like their boundaries and constantly post pictures or Carly on thier social media platforms. And when B & T try to include them their is something more important they have to do. I'm not saying that Brandon and Theresa was not overprotective, with the first couple of years, but no adoption was that public and constantly knowing that most of the world is sad that thier blessing is with them instead of the birth parents that would make anyone insecure and not to mention their whole town knowing their daughter is adopted most adoption family don't have to deal with that . If Cate and Ty (mostly Ty) didn't let thier ego get in the mix and respect that Brandon and Theresa didn't want the world in their relationship, Cate and Ty would probably have a better relationship with Carly.

I placed my daughter with a great family 21 yrs ago and I have always related strongly to these 2. And now both our daughters are living great lives cuz we were strong enough to ignore what we wanted to do & do what was best for our babies.

Out of all the teen mom/16 and pregnant stories this has been the hardest to follow. I really feel for Catelynn and Tyler. They are such good people, so humble, and wise beyond their years, even when they were just teenagers. I’m so glad they stayed together. They really do love and protect one another.
Everytime i see them i get so emotional!!! It always breaks my heart such a tough decision they had to make at that time of their lives so brave!! I hope one day Carly can reunite with them and just spend quality time with Catelyn snd Tylor.
I feel if they were to get Carly full time, nothing would change with them! Cait would still be doing nothing but sitting around neglecting Nova, smoking weed and purchasing more animals! They would neglect their other two kids because they would always have that internal guilt for giving her away and now trying to buy her love!!Cait would fall back in her depression, go away for treatment leaving Ty all along, only now to take care of three kids on his own!!

It saddens me when everyone acts like there ok and nothing’s wrong when it isn’t 😔 I just wish they would let them see Carly more an have a real relationship. Not like hey I’ll see ya every 10 yrs. Yeah I agree that in a perfect world, they would let them see T and C more often but that's Carly's parents' decision. Unfortunately, those are the ramifications of giving your child up for adoption. Plenty of kids who are adopted never even meet their bio parents and 2/year is honestly generous. They've put their heart, soul, and finances into raising this kid and there is so much stigma about not having biological kids that I don't blame them.

You know what, the only person I feel bad for through out all of this is Nova. Think about it, her parents constantly talk and think about Carly all the time. The new baby comes and all their attention is on her. Nova is going to grow up and resent her parents if they don’t start putting her first or at least giving her the attention she needs. If you look back at other episodes, she acts and freaks out a lot. It’s because her parents are so focused on only wanting Carly, and now that the new baby is here all the attention is on her. When they had Nova, they would ignore her or drop her off at their parents house all the time. Poor Nova.

I was like 12 when that episode aired,and used to get angry at catlyinns mother for telling her to not give up her child, along with Tyler father. But now I get it no matter how little money you have its better to be poor and the child to keep your child.

Sorry but no, that family was toxic and Carly would have ended up all sorts of screwed up if she would have been raised in that family. Her birth parents were so selfless and mature for doing what they did, they gave her the chance to live a much stabler life than either of the two of them could have provided without having therapy to resolve their own issues. Yes, it’s very very sad but it was definitely the right thing to do.

Over the years I feel like Tyler and cait have felt like Carly’s parents are obligated to have them in her life more than they should be. You are not entitled to squat, you gave up those rights when you decided to go the adoption route.

lori larose open adoption still doesn’t mean they are entitled to know every aspect of her life. She had her parents. Mom and dad to her are Brandon and Teresa. Ty && cate have continued to over step on Brandon and Teresa by doing a lot of things they have such as posting things online that they were asked not to. Either way they should all communicate better with each other.

As an adoptive Mom, standing in the hospital and being given a newborn baby that you didn't birth is a surreal moment. I had a 4.5 yr old bio son and my hubby there as well but you literally feel like a first time Mom for a few seconds. Scared, excited, worried, protective.. You still pinch yourself for weeks and months after you've brought them home. My daughter is now 9.5 years old and I still pinch my myself that I have not one but two beautiful, amazing kids!! Adoption is a scary thing but oh my goodness but a blessing!!!
