    You inspired me to believe that I could start silversmithing...and I did! I had my very first sale yesterday! I'm loving every minute of it. I can't stop thinking about it. I can't quit dreaming up ideas. I can't quit buying beautiful stones. My Rio Grande wish list is a mile long. I appreciate you and how you continue to inspire me and other "self taught" artists. Thank you!

    I started my beginners silversmith class today and was so discouraged, I cried in the car after the 4 hour class. I go back tomorrow for another 4 hours and because of you and a couple of very uplifting girls in my class, I am going to go back, and I am determined. I guess sometimes it's not the actual teachers, but the good people on the sidelines that make you realize you are capable...i really thank you for this video! It was nothing against the teacher but I just felt rushed and so out of the moment and I had random strangers in my class of 5 people giving me hope and cheering me on. As much as I was discouraged, I was encouraged to try again.

      In most of my favourite courses I've ever done it was my fellow students that made the experience great. Don't give up! You may have just made some great friends. I'm also a slow worker and hate the feeling of being rushed, so I can relate to what you're saying.

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  3 года назад +8

      You are more than capable, sweetheart! It always takes time, we all stryggle in the beginning, regardless what we do, and this jewelry maiing technique is one of the hardest, so don't be hard on yourself! 😊🙏 Give yourself time to try enough times to know if this is for you or not. You don't have to be good from day one. You can try, experiment, learn and most importantly - have fun! Don't give up too fast. Like J J said too, I myself hate being rushed, judged too quickly and I also hate negative "motivation". Use the class to learn and work at your own pace. You'll do great!

    My start started when I was 52 years old I had a beautiful necklace it had a lot of gold in it it was purchased by jeweler in my town I kept that necklace for 30 years one day after going to the grocery store I noticed my necklace wasn’t there anymore it fell off I never found that necklace again. I love that necklace so much that I wanted to build one just like it I started watching videos on RUclips on how to make certain necklaces and they settled on a Cuban link and I used a quarter pound of gold I Purchased all the tools rolling mills torches everything $25,000 worth of tools Pepe Tools Rio Grande Epsie and others inspired me to make That replacement necklace and I made it with a locking clasp.

    Your's was one of the first jewelry making youtube channels I subscribed to, they are so informative, and you are so giving with the knowledge you have. Listening to how you got started made me stop and think how did she know how I was feeling? Right now I'm beading, but it's not enough I feel like I don't think I will be happy until I can manipulate metal to make my own designs. Sometimes I just want to give up because the possibility seems so far off. Listening to you reminds me it can be done. Thank you.

    Wow!! Soo encouraging for us newbs.. especially old newbs like myself. Lol It’s still possible. I started a year ago playing with wire and really want to jump into cutting my own copper, soldering, torching.. I even purchased everything for Electroforming jewelry simply because I fell in love with the pieces I’d been seeing, but with little to no knowledge of construction. There are no kinds of classes right now, due to Covid, so I’m stuck with tutorials for now. Thank you for stressing the point that everyone works at their own pace, and progresses at different times/ some more lucky than others just having a natural knack. It’s so hard to look at social media and see others who are also only a year in or so remotely ever touching wire beforehand and are light years from my skill level. 😢 It’s so hard to not compare, although I know I shouldn’t. It genuinely stops my progression. I need more videos like this! Thank you for sharing your journey and congratulations on your success! Your rose quartz set at the end was beautiful!!!😍😍💚

    Ive spent the past week ive been learning how to tie friendship bracelets and loving it, and im very quickly expanding my horizon about it today and something just kinda clicked, for me, i want to make jewelry and things that make people feel beautiful. Been lost in what to pursue in college for a while now and i think ill give this a well worth shot. Your video was one of the first few looking up "jewelry making" videos on yt and im glad i did! Im such a hands on person that loves art but I dont see myself as a painter, just someone who creates🤷‍♀️

    Your video gave me the butterfly flutter heart drop feeling you described!!! I've just graduated my business Bachelor's degree in May 2020, majoring in EVENTS and sub-majored in TOURISM- not sure whether to laugh or cry at this point. I've always wanted to work with my hands and jewellery just seems like the dream industry but I feel like I'm so behind, all my friends have just graduated in degrees they still want to pursue and I've just wasted 4 years and $52k in debt for nothing. But this gal is going back to school to do what you do!!! Thanks for the motivational kick I needed 🥰

      I'm sure you are doing things the right way Doris! Especially becasue there is no "one right way". We all achieve things differently, and what worked for someone else might not work for you. So don't put too much pressure or stress on yourself, instead focus on the process and have fun! It's good to have a goal, but once you have it, make sure you enjoy the process of getting there! Good luck xx
