Hi Tom, when they do that quick zoom in and out and other minor things to reset the brain so it get peoples attention and keep them focussed and keeps them watching. That is the reason why they use that it's for a brain reset. The handheld bit of camera work is to demonstrate that 'Video's or Lives streams' can be done by anyone, not only professionals. I hope that it help you and others understand the concept.
Thanks for that living... must be an age thing then...it doesn't reset my brain it just make me fast forward to the other bits or turn it off :) As for the hand held shaky cam.. again it just has a negative effect on me ...I think most folk will realise that you don't need to be a professional to use a tripod or place cam on something static. You explanations make sense though so thanks again ...they just have a negative effect on me and I have yet to meet anyone who actually thinks they enhance a vid
It's just an editing technique to keep people's attention and usually done to highlight important points in the video. A lot of big channels do it so it becomes a bit of a trend and gets copied.
@@WillyJunior hi Willy...yes another comment suggested the same thing . Like I say though it has the opposite effect on me It NEVER happens when I am watching anything similar on TV..here in UK BBC. ITV..channels 4 and 5 ..sky etc all the news programs feature a person reading the news and there is none of this crop in and out nonsense ...like I say it doesn't keep my attention...it loses my attention...must be me being an old fart 😀
@@martymartin2894 hi Martin.....no these types of edits will be done on purpose. No camera or editing program will just do this on its own I use Adobe Premiere but any program won't just crop in and out without being asked to The RUclipsrs doing it are long established ones who knows what they are doing so it's done by choice
Hi blowinFree.. yes that's a good one...it annoys me as well....it will never happen on my vids as I bite my nails.😊 While I have my grumpy head on .. I got a comment yesterday on another vid I did on a pedestal fan saying that the sound measurement I did was inaccurate because of my heavy breathing. 😮 ..I was going to say sorry and that I had asthma but couldn't be bothered. 😅
It seems some of these were born out of Snapchat effects a while ago, and more people adopted it to look like other big/successful channels here. I've seen people say that it's for engagement, which I would believe were it not so exaggerated. Some "AI editing tools" use some of these effects to cover excessive jump cuts, and it does look ridiculous. Maybe there's a plugin/script some people are using. Now the shaky cam thing, the excuse I saw a while ago: to "look relatable". If the channel/person is too professional, they may look too corporate and distant. That also seems to explain some of the "tiny mic" phenomenon. I'm in my thirties and also don't get it, Tom. I usually don't watch much in my phone, maybe there' s a correlation. Just looks dumb for me. On the other hand, I did get a few laughs out of your video!
Hi Mutaka..Thanks for that..yes some good points there...I too watch youtube mainly on my TV or PC ...Like you say I just don't get it. Glad it gave you a laugh...the trying to pronounce "Cruzcampo" bit? :)
Hello Tom. Its been a while and I hope you are well. Nothing like a good moan for us chronologically maturer gents. There's an idea for a 2nd channel " Toms Moan Shed " and I'll be you 1st subscriber. I've not noticed the zoom cropping but I bet I will now. What does drive me mad though is when they have one camera in front and another about 50° off to one side and then flip between the two. Why oh why!!! Arty farty rubbish. When I'm conversing with someone I don't stand off to oneside. Now that's off my chest keep the vids coming please. All the best.
Hi tdub...glad to see you back....yes totally agree on the 2nd camera nonsense...the only time I use 2 is when doing a demo like cutting a piece of wood from 2 angles. Will bear the "moan channel" in mind :)
To me in my honest opinion, it plays up with eyes chronically, I have to stop watching. Hope your well Tom, keep up the great work buddy. 🤙🏼🇦🇺 Joe from Australia 🤙🏼🇦🇺
Hi Joe ..nice to hear from you again (is that @Johadart different?) ...yes like I say major TV channels don't do it to the newscasters etc so it's a totally useless and annoying craze.
I'm 21 this new editing style is not for me. I don't like it, the constant cuts and sounds to keep our attention. After watching those types of videos, my brain gets tired from it.
I don't even notice some of these techniques but it does infuriate me when the image is just a narrow strip in the middle of the screen. Whenever I see that I click the dislike button. It is usually better to avoid music as it will never be to the taste of 50% or more viewers.
Music over people talking is even more annoying
I agree Clive ...in bits between ok but as you say not when actually talking...even low volume it's distracting

What about people tapping things with their false nails. It’s driving me round the twist

Yes I agree ...like when taken on a phone vertically ...the only time I do that is when showing a screen recording of an app
