I don't think I have ever heard this explained so clearly before, Om is the sound/ word that names Isvara/ God. So many times I've been in a class that finishes with the chant of Om, without knowing the fullest meaning. Thank you so much
Thank you very much Rachel, your Yoga videos are so helpful. Not only do i want to practice Yoga, but I also want to understand Yoga on an intellectual level. Your videos provide some of the best explanations in regard to the history of Yoga, the physical anatomy of Yoga, and also the philosophy of Yoga. It is very deep, but yet digestible to new-comers like me. Best yoga related videos on youtube so far.
Thank you so much for these and your others , I can listen to you talk simply about complex stuff all day long . I’m not forgetting the little hamster analogies ever .. they’re going in my RS note book 🧘♀️👌🏼
I love that this section gave the option of Devotion To God. When this was taught to me in my first 200-hr in 2012, this was the part that really made sense to me coz I’m a practicing Catholic. For me, the constant practice is a tool for me to come back to my truest self - the ME that God created in its purest self - without the stuff. And when I am free of the stuff or not caught up with my ego, I am able to see God in others - people, nature, animals, objects, etc. And as I extend my love to others, I am also giving my love to God. 🥹❤ While we have the bible, yogis have the Sutra :) And I’m grateful that I can learn from both! Thank you Rachel, as always!
Thank you so much for this series of videos. I'm reading the book alongside and your explanations are helping me to understand and reflect a little deeper. Thank you 😊
Om is really Aum . it represents the first expressed value of the relative field when consciousness /Being becomes manifest . The A sound in a name and form language such as Sanskrit creates movement within the stillness of being . The second movement is the O sound which represents the continuation of the initial opening . the M sound represents the closing as the lips close bring the sound back to silence . As to it being used as a mantra , the first and most important thing is to NEVER entertain the meaning . Any meaning given to the sound immediately throws it into contemplation . Contemplation creates /IS a subtle activity in the mind which creates an obstacle to transcending . When Mantras are used there must be no meaning ,contemplation or concentration / repetition of the practice as that would nullify any ability of the system to transcend its own activity which is necessary for the direct experience of pure consciousness or that which is free from fluctuation . Also it might be good to know that Aum is a recluse mantra and is not suitable for a householder .
I don't remember where I read this, but before the philosophy of tantra, the body was seen as a hindrance, as something disgusting and something that disturbs enlightenment (whatever that is). From tantra, the body is seen as the temple of our soul, something that has to be well taken care of because it is exactly what leads us to a higher consciousness. This vision changes the whole game. You are a very funny person, make this study lighter. let's continue. By the way, I don't really like the word God, I use the word cosmic consciousness.
"AHAM BRAHMASMI" -I AM THE BRAHMAN that supreme one ( this is the core of "advait vedanta". and according to patanjali definition of 'ishvara' ( non attached etc etc. ) we can achieve it through yoga (following ashtanga). Thus patanjali proving the advaita vedanta.....or patanjali didnt said we can become ishvara ?? ,😅😅🙄
My understanding is that Patanjali was a dualist ~ that Parusha may reflect or recognize Isvara, but these are not identical in the way that non dualist tradition may conceive… but I am more a fan of non-dualism myself!😃
@@RachelScottYoga okk thanks.....this non dualism is known as "dvait advait".
