    Pinning the description so it’s more easy to read and understand the story:
    Firstly, this video has reached a lot of people, I am so glad we are raising awareness and thank you so much for taking the time to comment I really appreciate it❤
    Here is all the information on what happened.
    This mare has been seen to have seizures like in this video (although for many years much more mild than this one) on and off the past 15 years she is 27 years old now. She is a British Sports Horse (Irish draught cross part bred Thoroughbred). She has likely been misdiagnosed in the past as she also has EPSM and it seemed to relate to muscle spasms/trapped nerve type of thing! But we now know it’s equine seizures /epilepsy.
    It’s tricky to record them as they happen at random times but a brief description:
    Twitching starts in her face and she turns her neck in, the tremors go through her body, she looses coordination, in the last year she now falls over, then gets up canters in circles or sometimes in straight lines depending on where she is in the field, the twitching stops and she goes back to grazing over a 5/10 minute period.
    Sharing her symptoms to raise awareness and help other owners reach a diagnosis and treatment plan.
    Little update since I posted the video: the seizures got more frequent so managed to get a more conclusive diagnosis of epilepsy. She has been on phenobarbitone tablets (Epiphen) for the past 3 months and that has stopped the seizures so far 😀
    In response to the nasty comments - I can't control who is shown the video so I apologies if its popped up in your feed randomly and caused alarm or confusion. However, by sharing the video on various platforms I have been able to reach horse owners all over the world who are going though this to get a diagnosis and treatment. Seizures in horses are very rare so there are little resources, support or success stories out there so we often have to resort to searching for other cases and information online. So I am sharing it to raise awareness as there is very little out there about equine seizures especially outside of the US.
    Also, sadly there is nothing I could do to help my horse in the moments that this is happening because she cannot control her movement and at over half a tonne it is dangerous and futile to intervene! When she comes out of it I give anti inflammatories, aftercare and love. I recorded the episode so I could show the evidence to veterinary professionals to aid diagnosis because it's the only way I could show them what was happening.
    Thank you for the supportive comments and kind words. Feel free to reach out to me if you are going through something similar with your horse I am happy to talk in more detail about my experience and how I managed my horse with this condition for over 15 years so she could live a happy life (of course do get veterinary advice in the first instance).
    Also for those asking the bands on her front legs are magnetic to help with arthritis pain.
    And the dots on her fur are shavings (bedding) , she had free access to a field shelter so when she lies down it sticks to her fur.
    She was also regular wormed/worm count tested and, as we are in the UK, vaccinated routinely for flu/tetanus (this is not a reaction to worms/tetanus as some people have asked)

      @Iwoasasaned I know a horse is different from a dog but any advice? I'm in mexico and fear taking my dog to the vet because I've had numerous terrible experiences that have shown me most of these so called vets only care about your MONEY. I give my dog aloe vera daily but idk if that's even actually helping him and I give him CBD when he does get one. He gets them once or twice a month. 2 days in a row or 2 in 1 day.. he didn't always have them he started getting them about a year after he received a blow to the head eye area where he lost balance. I took him to a vet and they fkn put him to sleep just so they can check his eye... He had an ulcer and the vet gave me some cream n eye drops. Supposedly it worked. I don't even know..I never feel sure with vets .it's a terrible hopeless feeling.

While it is a shock to see it happening, if you're a pet owner who's never experienced an animal seizing... it takes your breath away the first time, then your brain kicks in to try and do whatever you can to help comfort them...usually with medications and some times therapy they are fine. Videos like this are just as needed as videos of children or grown up having a seizure... its not unheard of, it's not something you know will happen until it does... at least people having seen videos like these know they are not alone, they know there's help for their loved one, be it animal or human... Thank you again for sharing what must have been a very difficult thing to watch as it evolved into a full on seizure... I'm so sorry

      Nope not how seizures work. It's not luck or anything like that clearly her type of seizures don't cause very much brain damage if any at all since she's been able to live like that for so many years. If the seizures cause brain damage they usually don't live past a year without meds. It's not the care that keeps her alive it's she's lucky that the seizures don't actually cause brain damage

    • @faefiercevulpine6990
      @faefiercevulpine6990 5 месяцев назад

      I said grace, not luck. I respect the education you’re providing, but the “nope you’re wrong” energy is gross, and there are better ways to educate someone without also subtly tearing down a kind response - let alone to a person who’s spent years watching a beloved companion suffer. So thanks for the input, but respectfully, fuck off.

    • @horseharmony
      @horseharmony  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@RachelleRichardsonwell what kept her alive is I kept pushing for answers and trying different tests and specialists until we got them! Otherwise she would have been put down with suspected brain tumour long ago. Also she was not safe to be on other people’s property when she was falling - so I guess it helped that I moved her to a place to call home and purpose build it. So actually it is a lot of effect and care to keep a horse with seizures safe and well. Most people wouldn’t have an option but to euthanise. I’m not sure if your experiences with horses but there are few yards you could keep a horse having seizures safely

      I am going through that with my dog. He is on meds and I just received at home rescue meds that I shoot in his nose to help get it to stop. I am not sure how aware he is as his eyes do track with me and he does try to get into my arms when I try to grab my phone for a video to show the vet so I don't think they are grand mal. I do my best to try to comfort him an let him know I am there for him. Sometimes I have to hold him down because he moves quite a bit and I don't want him to hit his head. He is half my weight so it can be a struggle sometimes. I love him so much and I have found that with proper monitoring, it is still possible he can live a quality life. Videos like this are valuable for vets and for owners who are going through something similar. I wish the horse and owner the best and courage for when they go through these episodes. I wish you and your pup the best as well as it is tough to see an animal that you love go through that.

      In a strange twist of fate, both of my pups have epilepsy. Optical compression helps. Lightly press your thumbs over their eyes. It seems to calm them quicker. Also I keep wet towels in the fridge to wrap around their necks as they tend to become over heated. And they recover faster after a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a squirt of honey on it. It's tough seeing this happen.

    Thank you for showing this. Many people do not know some animals can have the same diseases,disorders,illnesses as we do,such as epilepsy,downs syndrome, dwarfism, and many others. And also many humans just think "oh you should put the poor thing down its suffering."
    But never would they do that for a human. Animals do so much for us. The companionship,love,laughs,therapy,tender moments they share that show a much deeper side of nature. Ty for loving this sweet baby❤

      ...
      Unfortunately I know a few people that would....
      But yeah, I don't think one should jump to "ending all pain via non-existence" (aka mercy-killing) for human or animal. Each case is going to be different and each individual person and animal is going to have there strength and resistances towards those cases.
      At least try before going the route of no return.

      @@JDReC100 the thing is most humans can tell you they are done or want to go. If on lifesupport doctors can tell you certain outcomes. With animals they can't say it. I mean some can show they are done and too tired to fight( in one of my cats cases). No matter how much electrolytes,baby food in syringes,vitamins,singing,vet visits , he was so skinny from fatty liver disease he looked at me. And he stuck out his wee arm and paw. I held it and he curled his beans around my finger. I told him " please don't go." He just looked at me. I felt so helpless. I told him how much I loved him. Kissed him all over. And I said "ok my boy if you want to go you can go. I won't make you stay here for me." After that he let go. I let them give him the shot so it was fast.
      That was him showing me clearly. And me understanding but not wanting anymore suffering for him or pain. But knowing they want to live so badly should also be taken into account.

    Es un sentimiento de miedo cuando tienen un episodio de epilepsia. Si se les habla y se les hace sentir que están acompañados, que no hay nada que temer, les ayuda a terminar más pronto con ese ataque.

      эпилепсия психическое заболевание. оно возникает из-за повышения B- волн в мозгу. страх тут не причём. как любое психическое заболевание эпилепсия не излечима, можно только подобрать лекарства для уменьшения припадков, если повезёт припадки уйдут совсем.

    As someone who has a cat with a form of epilepsy that started at 4 weeks of age… and is something we’ve been fighting her whole life… I wish more people would post videos of their fur babies having seizure to raise awareness, help educate/brainstorm ideas to help, and make others with the problem not feel so alone.

      I have a friend with a Pomeranian that has had seizures since she was about 4 months old and of course they went through all of the blood work and the tests and everything they could possibly do. They had some luck with drugs but my friend found that if she took an ice pack and put it at the base of the dog's skull on the back of the neck that it would stop the seizure. I know it sounds fantastical but it certainly would be something to try. Good luck!

      جناب زبرجد از گوگل پلی برنامه ترجمه را نصب کنید، اکثر زبانهای دنیا را در خودش داره و فارسی به انگلیسی را خیلی عالی و روان ترجمه میکنه ، متن فارسی را که نوشتید روی ترجمه انگلیسی انگشت بگذارید ، یه نوار میاد بالای متن ، کپی را بزنید ، مجدد کپی همه میاد که منظورش همه متن هست ، کپی همه را بزنید و از برنامه بیاید بیرون، توی یوتیوپ یا واتساپ و اینستا و هر برنامه دیگه ای ، انگشت روی باکسی که متن مینویسید نگه دارید ، کلمه جایگزین توی نوار بالا میاد، جایگزین را کلیک کنید ، متن به انگلیسی یا هر زبانی که از برنامه ترجمه کپی کردید میاد داخل باکس پیام و میتونید به زبان طرف مقابل بفرستید،
      برعکس متن انگلیسی یا هر زبان دیگه ای را هم میتونید کپی کنید و در برنامه ترجمه به فارسی تبدیل کنید، البته یوتیوپ که مترجم داره و شما میدونید
      البته انشالله که اینها را میدونید و من بر فرض اینکه شاید با برنامه ترجمه کار نکردید جسارت کردم و توضیح دادم

    Thank you for the video and the explanation. I had a horse that had Epilepsy he lived to be 32 he was my best friend. He had his first Epileptic Episode at 10 days old my father was a veterinarian and treated him the best that he could in the 1960s until he passed in 1994. (My horse passed) My dad (Is still Alive) knew what my horse had but in those days a veterinarian could not get anti seizure medication. We kept Bacus with our older retired horses. My dad spent years trying to explain Epilepsy in many different types of animals to medical doctors in our area, and attempting to get them to prescribe proper meds with 0 results. Again thank you I hope by your persistence and videos that horses and animals in general get the help they need

    That poor animal... It shouldn't have to be going through that. Glad to hear it is on a good medication to help prevent them. Definitely not an animal that should be ridden, for safety reasons for animal and rider... But seeing as how the horse doesn't seem to have any wear marks from wearing a saddle, and isn't wearing a harness or bridle, I think the owner is well aware of this. And yes, intervening would be extremely dangerous, and the horse could easily kick out or bite and cause serious injury to someone if they tried. From what was said by the person who posted this video, I am certain that they are giving this big fur baby the best life they possibly could. Keep up the good work! Hopefully the treatments keep worling.

    • @nala8223
      @nala8223 Год назад +1

      A horse that is ridden shouldn't have any wear marks of a saddle either though? If it does, the saddle doesn't fit at all and that can lead to severe and permanent back problems

    What you are doing is amazing and it takes a lot of courage to follow through with the recording, knowing how difficult it must’ve been.
    By doing what you’re doing at least there will be a chance for other horses to have a better life. Thank you for having the courage and making this video…. can you imagine it would take your horse for the vets to finally be able to get a handle on the seizures in the horses?

It's crazy because my aerobics instructor had a seizure in class just yesterday, and I explained to people that you really can't do anything but keep them from hurting themselves and give them space. Imagining that with a horse never occurred to me.

    I'm so sorry! I hope things go well for you and your horse!! I think raising awareness is the right way to go. Most people don't know that to be such big strong animals, horses are also very fragile! And health problems, that humans can easily make it through, can kill a horse! Best wishes!!
