This stadium held 80,000 people but this was a benefit concert to raise money. The entire concert was shot out over satellite and 1.2 billion people were watching it. You should watch their entire 20 minute performance, said to be the greatest live performance ever done. They had a lineup broadcasting from England and another broadcasting from the US at the same time.

Live Aid was a duel venue concert held to raise funds to aid Ethiopia which was suffering from drought. The concert was held in front of live audiences at both Wembley Stadium in London (72,000) and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia (100,000). Over 75 acts performed at Live Aid with each given a 20-minute segment in which to perform. The concert was broadcast worldwide over 13 satellites, which was a very big deal in 1985. Other countries like the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia, and West Germany used the satellite hookup to include 20-minute performances from their country,
The concert began broadcasting around noon London time (5 AM in Philly) and then Philadelphia came online 5 hours later. It was around 16 hours long and an estimated 1.9 BILLION people watched it on TV.
"We Are The Champions" was the final song on Queen's playlist for their performance at Live Aid. You should watch their entire 20-minute performance. It is considered to be the best live performance of a rock band EVER! Queen stole the show.
Here is Queen's Live Aid performance - ruclips.net/video/H3_0tcyWZQQ/видео.html. FYI - Use this video of their performance because the other video on youtube of Queen's performance is screwed up on the ending.

Live Aid was a multi-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as a music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise further funds for relief of the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia, a movement that started with the release of the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984. Billed as the "global jukebox", Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people

Checkout the full „Live Aid“ version. Look for a clip, that is at least 27 minutes long, begins with 2 „Bobby‘s“ (comedians) doing the intro and ending with Freddie and Brian doing a final number at 930pm. Probably best to just go the the Queen site for the official version as most of the reviewers are cutting both the intro and ending solo out of their reviews. I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath when this happened which was a couple of hours drive away. I think everyone in the country was tuned in that day…..Cheers

I was too little to go to Woodstock (500,000 people were there) in 1969 but this was the closest thing to it. I was 22 at the time and Everyone was watching these Live Aid performances either live (lucky souls) or by seeing it on their t.v. sets (at the same time). Ethiopia had been dealing with extreme drought/famine for several years, until it became critical and they made an appeal for relief funds (food/medicine and $$$ to help them). The mid 80s were known for the creation of relief benefit concerts. Live Aid was televised via satellite throughout North America and England at the same time. Between 60,000 to 90,000 people were at the concert statiums and over 2 billion folks were watching from their homes (t.v.) some even hooked their t.v.s to car batteries so they could see/hear and dance to the music while having cookouts/BBQs.There were a lot of block parties/tailgate parties and street dances to be had on that day. It was one of the times that the world came together to help others in need. A lot of wonderful memories were made back then. I love your videos and you look amazing, my friend.💕💕💕☮️☮️☮️☮️ A friend from Maine, USA

Freddie was told not to sing but he downed a vodka and went on and did this for 20 mins! They had a rotating stage in three sections and a traffic light system, green for go, amber, you have 5 mins left and when it hit red the stage rotated and brought the next group on because SO many bands were playing to raise money for Africa. So one group playing, one section being emptied and one setting up to go! Queen brought the house down, watch the whole performance, it's LEGENDARY!!!!❤
