Notable individual performance in a final when their team got thrashed...
Dermott Brereton 8 goals in the 1985 Grand Final ....Hawthorn were thrashed by 78 points.

The finals system from 1994 to 1999 was pathetic...
I remember Carlton finished the 1999 home and away season 6th with 12W 10L...then lost their first final, but because of the bizzare finals system, got the double chance despite finishing 6th and losing their first final...Carlton went on to lose the 1999 Grand Final.
That bizzare finals was dumped after the1999 Grand Final.
( Also, the Adelaide Crows were premiers in 1998 after finishing 5th and losing their first final.)
