MAXIMUM RESPECT ! - Best Hill Climb video of all time. To the Driver, you are a Demi-God ... I have watched this video so many times, and every time I watch it, the hairs on the back of my neck stand. It just gets me so pumped and full of enthusiasm !!
Un must incontournable. Peut être le meilleur inboard visible sur RUclips.
he sounds like he's tearing off the asphalt on that street! what a machine! excellent capture of speed and sound. i get goose bumps listening to it roaring!
Great sound and crazy action. This is how inboard views should be done in formula one, not with those wide angle stabilized cameras mounted as periscopes on each car. Racing is brutal, and drivers really fight with their rockets on wheels. We want to feel that, too!
This things' got some serious grip! Serious everything really! One more thing...this guy is going to become fossilized on some bedrock along this track one of these days. Best of luck to him, really, cause he's one hell of a driver. Kudos; quite the achievement!
I watched this video about four or five years ago (before it was on youtube) and it still blows me away. As far as comparing this to Nascar, thats just stupid. It's 2 totally different types of racing and I have great respect for all racing. I took a ride around Indy in a Nascar and I couldnt believe how much the car was dancing around down the straight hitting around 180 and I cant imagine doing it with 40 other cars for 2 or 3 hours. That said, am not a huge Nascar fan but, respect all racing.
@smiley19912 I found out! Its a N/A 6 with ~400 horse (BMW engine). The amazing acceleration is because the whole thing (driver included) weights in at 1500 lbs.
Norma M20 is a purpose-built prototype racing chassis constructed in France by Norma Auto Concept ("Norma" is a combo of the names of the two principals of the shop) who have raced various versions of the cars at Le Mans and other European circuits. It's not a Radical or any of that other stuff.
Like so many others have said - this driver (and his car of course) is AWSUM - ABSOLUTELY AWSUM!! Among the best incar videos on RUclips. Thanks holymacaroni85 - for posting it.
I think - like most men - that I'm not a bad driver. But watching this ... I'm not tough enough to go that fast even on a much wider road. Good performance.
He's just adjusting his driving style for the road. Turn in, lift off shifting the weight off the rear, bump the throttle to induce oversteer then apply opposite lock and balance oversteer by feathering or blipping the throttle. A more smooth aproach could result in an unplanned oversteer when powering out the bend and that, in a car that powerful & twitchy, you really wouldn't want to do .
I have to correct you rallylory. this BMW 3 liter engine has about 520hp ( aprox. 387 Kw) in the bank of assays. I worked with Norbert Santos preparing it for the 2005 season. (sorry for the bad english)
not in this version. the version for the championship (CN4) is prepared by Amaroli, that has about 380hp. Alain race with Norbert Santos engine in Gemenos and in Serra Estrela in Portugal. The chassis was a change to M20 (later M21).
You can see the slicks are not yet fully warmed up trough the first tight turns, just look at the adjustments to the steering wheel ... insane driving.
That is a seriously fast driver in a seriously fast car. Love it. Check the skidmarks on the corner at 1:52. Overcook it there and kiss your backside goodbye...
lol hillclimbing is one of the first forms of motorsport. They have been running all kinds of crazy machinery up european mountains and hills. Including F3000, Ex F1, ex DTM, protosports with F3000 engines! you name it. most of these machines run a very sticky avon crossply slick that has plenty of grip but allows you do go sideways abit.
I'm not sure about the following facts: The car is a Norma M20 with a BMW M3 engine (about 450 hp). The driver is Alain Castellana. Maybe in the south of france, near Marseille.
MAXIMUM RESPECT ! - Best Hill Climb video of all time. To the Driver, you are a Demi-God ... I have watched this video so many times, and every time I watch it, the hairs on the back of my neck stand. It just gets me so pumped and full of enthusiasm !!

1000% d'accord avec toi ! Et cerise sur le gâteau, cette montée du col de l'Espigoulier est magnifique. Des paysages digne de la haute montagne 😍.
Yea respect, thats an awsum bit of footage, an animal of a car, a big balled driver. Loved thanks!
NO! it's a NORMA M20 with a BMW M3 engine (about 450 hp). The driver is Alain Castellana. Maybe in the south of france, near Marseille
in-line 6 cyl. BMW motor I think......

i get goose bumps listening to it roaring!
Well, I think it is the model... "car was made in May 2004 by Norma Concept" And motor is BMW M3 3L. This car isn't anywhere near Radicals...
i wish this was available in HD, would be soo great on a big screen at a decent res!!! love it
Yup. It's real time for sure. Love the sound of that engine.
Great sound and crazy action. This is how inboard views should be done in formula one, not with those wide angle stabilized cameras mounted as periscopes on each car. Racing is brutal, and drivers really fight with their rockets on wheels. We want to feel that, too!
I'm watching this for years... LEGEND!

Really the best hillclimb ever...
NORMA M20 with 3.0l BMW Engine.
SICK, MAN!! It also indicated that he completely memorized every inch of the track.
This things' got some serious grip! Serious everything really! One more thing...this guy is going to become fossilized on some bedrock along this track one of these days. Best of luck to him, really, cause he's one hell of a driver. Kudos; quite the achievement!
ULTIMATE faith in his machine, and impressive knowledge of the track...unreal...
That was pure class!! Reminds me of my sunday afternoon drives out!! LoL... I bloody wish! Wicked vid mate
Bikes are so much fun, but I don't think there is a bike on this planet that could beat this car up this hill. That's awesome!
Ehh no, not even Close.
my dad showed me this video, he is no alive anymore. But its still the quintessence for power and skill for me. I salute the driver.

I keep expecting the car to loop when he gets on the throttle so early! Amazing
@smiley19912 I found out!

I need one of these to drive to work.

I'd be waiting for the red downshift light when I approach a corner, as seen in GT4!

I'm amazed at how smooth he is on the throttle.
Nutty. Love it.

Couldnt have said that better.. Theres probably not many other things in life that would/could give you a thrill like that.
I have to correct you rallylory.

I worked with Norbert Santos preparing it for the 2005 season.
(sorry for the bad english)
thats some intense driving !!
Oh Jesus, that sound makes me crazy!!!!
It isn't sped up, but it is shot in a slight wide angle which makes it appear that he is going faster than he is. Great driving!
That guy is my hero!!!!
My dream sport.
not in this version.

Holy mother and Jesus!!! Christ thats fast!
It's a SpeedCar or "Barqueta" as we call it in Spain. There are home-made chassis (I think) with a big motorbike's engine.

this is in fast forward 1.2X
Mind blowing
14 NASCAR drivers dislike this video, they would probably die on first corner of this road i this race car. This is real Racing.
whatever vehicle he's in the acceleration is brutal!
All hail the new Stig!
that is so mad lol the sound is unreal
No need for a comment! The driver speaks for himself with his skills!
I'm not sure about the following facts: The car is a Norma M20 with a BMW M3 engine (about 450 hp). The driver is Alain Castellana. Maybe in the south of france, near Marseille.
Thanks, I was looking for this information.
No 5000horse power.
I think, this machine has 500-600horse power!
Superb drive!!!
I like the noise!
And they rekon Formular 1 racing's hard. Respect to the hillclimbers!!!!!!!
@kanadez
It's not Judd V8, it's BMW S50 high rev engine highly moded.
