      Daughter is a competitive gymnast with severe pain from this. She already does the regular stretching with her 4 hours of workout per day. Will these still help since it is targeted and also some ice massage?

    I had this condition in my adolescence. It's been dormant for decades. Other than protruding bone spurs that I can't kneel on it's not been giving me any trouble... until now. I'm in my mid 50s and my right knee is flaring up, quite painful. The pain originates at the bottom of the bone spur. I don't recall injuring it. Any idea what this might be? Arthritis? It just started a day ago all at once while out for a walk but the pain is getting worse.

    • @PigIronStrengthTraining
      @PigIronStrengthTraining 2 года назад +1

      @@pablomendez1050 you know what, they did help haha. Strengthening those tendons also helped a lot by doing some bodyweight knee flexion exercises like assisted squats and lunges.
      Do take it slow with the exercises at it will likely be painful at first but as they lengthen and you get stronger the pain should start to go away.
      I did it the hard way and started back squatting with a barbell before I did any of that and it was not the smartest idea.

  • @AskDoctorJo

    I have not heard of it before, but I did check it out just now. I get the theory behind it, and how it should help, but I am not completely sold on it. I guess I would have to try one first to give an honest opinion. I would say if you try it, be VERY careful not to cut off your circulation. Any time you wrap an elastic type material around your body, just be very aware of how it feels!! I hope that helps!!

    Hi, I'm 17 and I had Osgood Schlatter on my right knee for about 3 years now. I still have the bump but it doesn't hurt anymore (unless I hit it). I can do squats, jump and run pretty easily, but I still can't bend my right leg all the way as I can do with my left leg, I can't kneel without moving my right leg to the side. Any advice? Can I somehow fix this with some exercises or an operation?

    I’m 31. I can’t remember what age I was diagnosed with OSD, but I was very young. I was told it was because I was growing too fast, I was also told it would go away when I stopped growing which could be as late as 26. I believe I am done growing now, I’m 6’1.5/6.2 (it’s always different depending on who’s measuring me lol) and I still suffer from knee pain due OSD. My bumps are huge and protruding. Usually the pain isn’t too terrible, but the older I get the worse it gets. OSD Pain led me here tonight.. I’m going to try these stretches out and see what happens. Thanks!

    I can't really go out in times like these, so I've been trying to self-diagnose and I'm not sure if this is what I am dealing with. I can't really lift my leg because it hurts and feels like something is pulling it back and I can't even walk properly. After reaching a certain threshold I can hold it up but it tries to rebound back in position. I'd really appreciate if you could help me.

    I feel like this is what I have. Had symptoms with my left knee a year ago. Had xrays and MRI and all they found was some sort of friction helling to the lateral patella. It eventually got better. But now I'm experiencing the same thing on the right knee. Have tenderness when touching or walking right below the kneecap. Hurts when applying pressure when elevation as changed when walking. Also hurts to raise leg straight and to lift ankle onto opposite knee to put socks or shoes on. I have been icing it. But can heat help loosen the muscle as well?

      Yes, stretching the quad muscle is actually good for it, since it comes from really tight muscles. Hopefully these will help. Good luck.

    I'm 16 and has had Osgood Schlatter for years. Currently the knee pain is getting worse and worse and its in both knees. What else could I do other than the stretches that will help?

      No. And does the osgood schlatter knee strap work while doing physical activities such as basketball. Its called like jumpers knee strap.

    Doc. Are the three stretches good for preventing Osgood-schlaters in a 12 yr old fastpitch catcher. Do catchers have a higher risk??

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  8 лет назад +1

      +Jeff Manory They should help. I think it is definitely worth trying. Catchers do get much more pressure on their knees which pulls on the patellar tendon, so it is likely. Good luck.

    Hello, I am after some advice as my doctor was useless and said come back in two weeks. It was five weeks before I made the appointment.
    My question, is it possible this can develop at the age of 40. I've been in to sports all my life from running to rollerblading never really stopped. Then some time ago I starred to get excactly what you described with the bump and my god the pain in the bump area is a nightmare.
    Does it ever go away would I have had it without knowing and it's just decided to show itself. I really want to get back to my normal activities, currently even the stairs are a struggle.

      You really need to go see a physical therapist in person for treatment for the best chance of recovery.

    I am 13 and have formally made sure that I have this disease, Osgood Schlatters. Are there any further things to do because I I would really like to get back to basketball. Also is this just a one time a day thing?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  7 лет назад

      You can do them 2-3 times a day. The best way to get better would be to go to physical therapy, so they can give you exercises you need, and there are things they can do in the clinic that will help that you wouldn't have at home. Good luck.

    Hey Doctor i recently came across this new knee and elbow wrap called the "voo doo floss wrap". it's supposed to help increase blood flow to sore and painful joints. Have you ever heard of it? If so whats your opinion on this type of treatment?

    2 questions
    1. How long will it take for these exercises to be effective? I assume it hugely depends on the person but abouts?
    2. Can you run and exercise trough the pain? Whats the worst that could happen?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  5 лет назад +2

      It definitely depends on the person and how severe your case is. Some people feel relief in just a week or two, and other times it might take several months. I wouldn't recommend working through the pain. It can cause long term problems in the future.
