Honestly I feel like considering they're very good handhelds I think that they still deserve their shine and considering also since the ps vita still hasn't been cut off it's internet servers, I think Nintendo made an truly honest mistake that modders are trying to make up for.
considering its size, they probably could have added not only a gba slot but the z80 processor to allow for original gameboy and colour games. it could have been the ultimate ds and would have had more of a selling point
This is better for playing DS games than a 3DS XL or New 3DS XL because the 3DS line of systems stretch the image for DS games and it can look pretty blurry.
I'm actually happy that they made a large one. Before, because my dad's an eye doctor, he says that I'm going to "stare at a tiny screen all day and go blind". My parents might finally me get one now...well probably not. I'm sure that they'll find another reason why I can't get one -_-

So I think I sorta broke my DSI... it still works completly functionally and I broke it in a good way. So you know everything technological has a battery limit. I think I overcharge mine (I don't know how I did it) because I went on a road trip for 9 hours right. I probably played it for 6 hours and left it sitting for more than 4. After all that, I only lost 1 quarter of my battery. And I haven't played it in about 2 years, still had full battery when I turned it on. Is it just my DSI XL that has a gigantic battery?
i still have the dinosaur one the fist one that came out but i have it in blue and my screens all messed up and my mom said i can have the ds xl for christmas :D im so excited although i really wished i would have gotten it before i finished drawn to life the next chapter so i could have seen it in a bigger screen but yea im just going to play it again in the ds xl when i get it on christmas :D
I got dsi on release that was my 2nd Nintendo system (the first was the wii) and I got the dsi xl 2 months after release then I got the 3ds on release now I have the new 3ds 1 year after release
1. I bought one exactly like yours today, popped in my iEDGE card (v2.1 frimware) that i was using on my DS Lite and it booted right up and i started playing mario hoops 3 on 3 right in the store. Ive been hearing alot of people say that the iEDGE wont work on DSi XL but, for me it worked right away! 2. I have the burgundy XL and it's barely noticeable. After a minute you don't even care about it. Games look fantastic on the large screens and the sound is way better. The DS gaming experience is at a whole new level with the XL
@Songspoint the 3DS is the DSi XL + a bigger, 3d (which you can switch off) top screen and a 3d camera, game cube graphics etc. It can also play normal DS and DSi games. There's no point in buying the XL since it has nothing that the 3DS doesn't have.
I missed out so much with Nintendo going back to the Gameboy SP days. I was Only 18 when the dsi came out. here I Am in my 30s, Now with the switch being on the spot lite, I still find the 3ds mesmerizing.
oh and the dsi xl DOES have visible pixelation. they didnt fix the quality, they just made the wrods larger, therefore making the pixels even more visible
hello people, the DS XL is not supposed to be completely portable. I mean, yeah, if you get a case for it you could bring it around like a netbook, but in all honesty, it's more of a system you play at home where you can buy a nice stand for it and prop it right up. The screen is amazing. I couldn't even think about playing on anything else now.

Nice review, I just got my xl this morning. One thing that is quite annoying: there is a static noise coming from the speakers even if when they are on very quiet setting (to be honest the volume level doesn't affect this noise). It is not loud, but when you are in a quiet room and you turn down the volume on it you can hear this noise. It is weird because I have a ds lite as well and it doesn't have this problem with it's speakers. What do you think, it is normal with the xl-s?
@Songspoint With the model they had at e3, which they seemed to stress wasn't the final design, the top screen was about as big (or wide, really) as the XL screens and the touch screen was normal size. I can't really say anything about the screen size until the final release, but I'm still just as excited either way. Even if you don't care, portability of the system is important for a handheld...

@AngelRbeautiful Well, the 3DS JUST came out basically a few months ago, so it still has a lot of time to catch up in the quantity and quality of games, remember the DS was originally released in late 2004.
from my understanding, its only region blocked for DSi specific titles, all the original ds/ds lite cartridges are not region blocked and would work on any region, tho i could be wrong...
@AngelRbeautiful What? The hinges are fine, Freezing? what did you do drop it or something? i've had mine for a very long time and its working 100% great. Battery life is pretty good. I dont really use the 3D that much and the screen is rather dim aka my battery goes days without charging.

if you are unsure of which XL to get, consider which libray you want more of. DS has over 1300 games 3DS only about 200. DSi XL plays the Ds games "better" meaning it has more vibrant colors and fits the whole screen where 3DS does not play the Ds games in whole screen and appears to have less vibrant colors, try youtubing the comparison. There is a gentleman who shows mario kart side by side, and it appears DSi XL looks better when playing Ds games. remember DSi also can play advance games.

In answering to your questions, with the dsi camera you can take stills, and modify them with the pre installed software. However, there is dsiware from the dsi shop that you can buy to record with your dsi camera called "Inch Worm Animation" You can not upload videos of you playing any games to youtube. You need a separate camera for that, but you can use the mic in gameplay for certain games. You can play all DS, and dsiware (downloadable) games for it, but not GBA or 3ds games. The handheld works without wifi, but certain games, and the dsi shop will require wifi in order to download games or play multiplayer online. (Certain games) Hope this helps, good luck!

Right now my nintendo ds lite has a broken right trigger and is about 4 years old. Inintendo said it will cost me 85 bucks and shipping costs to get a brand new one. Im not sure if i shuld buy this or not... Im hoping after 3ds comes out, there will huge price drops
@Ivannos92 don't get the DSI 3-4 battery life. Get either XL (nice big screen) or even better wait! 3D games will come out, the camera is too small and has had complaints regarding the games being too difficult or choppy to play.
it is VERY unlikely that the 3DS will cost $300. In all honesty, I'm still willing to pay that price, but it is more likely to be around $250. I'm just hoping that the games stay the same price. Any game that is more than $35 is too much for a handheld. The 3DS also warrants the higher price tag because it is new technology that you can't get anywhere else. It also has a ton of features and a huge list of launch titles. I'm really excited for March to roll around.

@bwonedotcom only 1 game does not work for the dsi/dsi xl is the action replay ds because its specifically designed especailly for the DS/DS Lite only

@MrCoolFelipe It's not just the screen it's the battery life too. You get more hours of game-play on the XL, so that's something to probably consider.

I love the glossy finish and the 3 pre-installed games and its has a gr8er grip and easier to see!!! I getting really soon

As someone who has both I would say the DSi XL is better because it's bigger. And you can hold one a lot easier than the regular size one
Get the 3ds XL. You can play the ds games on it. And theres pokemon X and Y coming out for the 3ds.

@Ivannos92 don't get the DSI 3-4 battery life. Get either XL (nice big screen) or even better wait! 3D games will come out, the camera is too small and has had complaints regarding the games being too difficult or choppy to play.
it is VERY unlikely that the 3DS will cost $300. In all honesty, I'm still willing to pay that price, but it is more likely to be around $250. I'm just hoping that the games stay the same price. Any game that is more than $35 is too much for a handheld. The 3DS also warrants the higher price tag because it is new technology that you can't get anywhere else. It also has a ton of features and a huge list of launch titles. I'm really excited for March to roll around.

Would you recommend me to get the DSi XL knowing that the 3DS is almost out? I have a phat DS and i want to upgrade but i think the 3DS is too expensive for the things that it offers.
