If you see water bubbling up through the pavement, call the water department emergency line. I did years ago and they about shit a brick, they had a loader digging up 20 mins later and i called at like 1am!

getting out of the car in that situation, I'd be terrified of the water pulling me down and then under the road to drown, I'd have to climb up to the back of the car and jump to the pavement.

I have a phobia about edges--bridge edges, cliff edges, freight elevators. Going over the edge and under. Now I gotta worry about sinkholes, too.

I remember a few years back, there was street construction near Winco in Beaverton & half the right side of the road on Cedar Hills Blvd was dug out - right next to the Jack In The Box (2920 SW Cedar Hills Blvd). The traffic crew had put cones along the road, but they hadn’t put them close enough together so it looked like one could enter the Jack In The Box driveway if they drove straight - well a car drove straight through that intersection & straight into that large ditch dug into the road, I saw half of it disappear into the ground!

Yeah, except it looks like a regular puddle in the middle of the road that just about all of the roads are covered in when wet. You'd never know it was 10 feet deep when it looks like all of the other 1/4" deep puddles, especially at night.

Read the title, I figured BC until I saw KGW. Yikes! With all the moisture we're used to flash floods, trees coming down, mudslides, rust and cars green with mossy fungus. (Same as British Columbia. The Pacific NW is a temperate rainforest.). Sinkholes happen someplace else.

This is why they said not to drive thru standing water bc you don't know if the road below has been washed aways.
If this was where I'm at.. the hole would have stayed there and at least 2-3 other cars would have needed to be rescued before they filled it in.
