If I remember the context, it's almost 40 years since I saw this play, Martin Jung is playing a knight and the goal for the jokes is to get the princess to laugh. That's why he is looking at her all the time. I can't remember why though. It's not blackface, he is supposed to be playing a knight. When the play was first put up, he used some really bad jokes, but the audience didn't like them so Hans Alfredsson and Tage Danielsson wrote this dialogue instead and it became the hit of the play, because of its plain stupidity. The play was by Povel Ramel who more or less brought crazy humour to Sweden. Hasse and Tage has an enormous production, so it is hard to recommend a singe thing. I'd go with: - Om Sannolikhet - Ett Glas Öl (a nice song) - Spik i foten You have had a bit unfortune with Povel Ramel, I think you might enjoy his "Var är tvålen?" better as it can be found with video and its easier to see what kind of artist he is. One of the most legendary sketches otherwise is the above Martin Ljung together with Hasse Alfredsson in "Guben i låddan".
The people in the background are part of the comedy troup, famous people like a young Povel Ramel :) You should listen to his song "Var är tvålen" wich is from the same era and with the same people.
And it's not blackface, if you look at the other actors they are dressed up weird as well, i don't know the show though so i dont know the whole context.
The legend Martin Ljung ! The man with the glasses in the background is the legend Powel Ramel BTW. This sketch is apparently from a musical called "Funny boy" from 1958 and he is supposed to be some kind of knight that is trying to make the princess laugh (the woman in the background that is showed at times). I didnt know that myself, i actually just checked it and i have seen this sketch many times through the decades but never the whole show.
I saw Marting Ljung doing a lot of new versions of this sketch about 20 years ago here in Malmö, when he was very old. In the 1960's this sketch was extremely popular here in Sweden. Everryone went around telling these Fingal Olsson-lines. Probably you must be a Swede at that time to really find it extremely funny. But its success depends very much on Martin Ljung's personality and his special way of delivering the lines. He did a lot of classic sketches. martin Ljung is also often called "the first Swedish stand-up comedian".
I agree with kattahj, it's mostly about the anti humor. Martin Ljungs character is the knight sir Bertrand Tre Ripor, trying to make princess Krusidull to laugh. You can compare this with Abbot & Costello's _Who's on First_ my guess is that people in the US don't laugh at that as much as they did some 70 years ago.
I've never really found this particular sketch funny either, but Martin Ljung as a comedian was great and very funny. He's done other classic sketches that's alot funnier. I recommend Ester.
There was a time in Sweden I guess where the tone of the voice was the only thing that people laighed at. Martin Ljung was a master of that type of comedy and his deep barytone voice and weak appearance was maybe a bit contradicting. Haven't seen the full scetch program. But Ester is so much better.
Ita a classic and pretty funny but you really should check out "Skojten" or "Viking" with the same guy (Martin Ljung) those i think are pretty hilarious and are about as old.
I don't understand it either. I mean, I get it, but I don't understand why people think it's funny. BUT, i will say this: It IS a classic, because it's old, but a lot of people still remember it. Maybe not this particular piece, but the whole "Fingal Olsson"-theme which Martin Ljung built his whole career around.
Not so funny as I remember it. But I think it already was a bit dated when I saw it for the first time. I like him better as "Jocke med kniven" in "Pippi på de sju haven".

Now this is a classic!!! :D
I think this sketch is an example of time sensitive humor.
And dialect-sociolect sensitive. Hard for an outsider to get.
The guy performing in this sketch is Martin Ljung, who is the bass singer in "Var är tvålen". Povel Ramel is sittning by the piano btw

Papphammar åker rullskridskor 😂😂😂
Papphammar har många klassiska scener. JR borde definitivt kolla på Papphammar!

It´s so bad it´s funny! I have heard that sketch a lot of times, but I laughed anyway ... 🙂

Ha ha, swedish old-school humor. How did you even find this? Good jub there are subtitles!😂

See Björn Skift in the sketch Bilen.
you shoud see robert gustavsson and weiron i ottan" its so funny.
Föredrar Skojten eller Viking av Martin Ljung
Novemberkåsan från NileCity👊

I think the funny bit in this sketch is that it's really NOT funny at all.
I find that a lot of comedy doesn't age well.

These commercials were so painful to watch. Imagine watching this several times a week for a month 😣🤢🤮
