It's a strange thought that people wouldn't know about streaming licenses vs ownership. It is abstract, but on a basic, fundamental level how do you actively seek to not know what you're getting when you spend your money? I've been encouraging my dad through organizing his movies. I've had Death Sentence (2007) with Kevin Bacon on my watch list for months and we used to look for it on his cable On Demand service and it's only ever available as pay-per-view. Well, because he's now sorting through and displaying his discs properly, it turns out he has the movie on DVD so we watched it on Saturday. I thought it was a good movie too, aside from the terrible music in the soundtrack. And also now, he thought of 3 more movies to buy on disc, and I bet they'll order them within a week or so.
My favorite new acquisition is a 4CD boxed set called "No Thanks! The 70's Punk Rebellion". 100 songs across 4 CDs, I'm already familiar with much of it and have some of the songs on other releases, but there's plenty on there I hadn't heard before and much of it is really good. I also ordered a CD player alarm clock on ebay that I hope works well.

A funny thing too, when we saw Death Sentence on the On Demand cable service, he didn't remember if he'd seen the movie before. When I pulled the DVD off the shelf, he remembered it and said it was good. We see these things differently when they're physical objects in the real world.

It truly is mind boggling that a law had to be created for people to realize this about digital purchases. Also you're right, owning things physically and seeing them definitely has an affect on us that digital unseen purchases do. Always important to own what you love physically. Great purchases and glad you got to watch that movie with your dad.

As far as skipping movies in theaters and waiting for digital, let alone the physical version, sometimes that isn't on the viewer. There's been a number of new movies, let alone classics, that I would've seen in the theater, but my theater didn't get the movie.
For example, the recent Dave Bautista movie, *_The Killer's Game,_* didn't come to my theater. Neither did the 30th Anniversary of *_The Crow,_* I'd have seen that in the theater despite owning the 4K.
