- Well commonly known as the Afgahnaka obr88 is a very famous Soviet uniform that was used up until the early 2000s with various camo patterns.
This is a more general look at the Soviet obr88 in Afghanistan.
I got a Chi Com chest rig I mailed home from Afghanistan in 2012. Who knows maybe it was used in the Soviet Afghan war.
the m88 wasn't just based on western uniforms at the time but also other warsaw pact uniforms like east germany and poland
Very unlikely considering the general cut that the afghanka came from was influenced by 1960s NATO battle Dress uniforms.
Trying to hand sew the collar liner into place has to be the most frustrating thing I have ever done.

where do you get the reference pictures in color?
In which other color these were made? Army green? And what about in a camouflage pattern?

The Soviets made some in TTSKO camo along with Border Guard Berezka pattern camos.
But also the “watermelon” camo pattern which was originally designed by the Soviet Union but later adopted by the Russian Federation known as the vsr93.
However almost every other Post Soviet country made their own with different camos.
Such as the Ukrainian or Azerbaijani TTSKO camos.

The afganka was not a bdu copy, it has its origins from the old okzk-d uniform from the 70s...
The Bdu came out in 1981, and even then, there was the 1st pattern, which was quit different in terms of pocket details, to the "classic" bdu 2nd/3rd Pattern cut. And even besides the main pockets, as it was mentioned in your video, there are other differents like waist adjustement straps, sleeve pockets, etc.
So, the afganka just can not be a copy of the bdu. Please stop spreading wrong informations, if you do not have any proofs on that.
Considering OKZK-D’s remarkable simillarities towards other Battle Dress uniforms of NATO countries That existed since 1960s have to state my case again.
Afghanka was a BDU copy.
@@ottoman_reenactor_ct I dont know from any other western uniform, which looks like the okzk-d. Brittain used their own cut, the us had its utility uniform and in vietnam their jungle fatigue, west germany had its moleskin uniforms etc. Or simply having two breast pockets and two waist pockets means automaticly that its a copy, and not a self developed design? Its basicly just logic to use these pockets, thats why everybody came to it.
@@Kinoshnik45 You simply are looking at it from a closed pov. I suggest you take a look at the Spanish, Portuguese, Greek and Turkish Uniforms of the 1960s. You would slowly understand what I mean by a Battle Dress uniform that consists of 2 large chest pockets along with tousers with side cargo pockets...
@@ottoman_reenactor_ct, "a copy of BDU" - is a very strong claim. You should say "an analogue" or "made in western trend".
I recommend to watch a comparison of Afganka and 1gen BDU on Red Ivan Airsoft channel. But in a nutshell and in English:
1)Afganka has its own roots and couldn't be copied from BDU (the earliest predecessors are the M1969 spetsnaz battle dress (known as Mabuta) and the M1969 OKZK/OKZK-D light ABC protective dress);
2)If it was developed independently then there must be the original decisions, its own properties - the main one is that Afganka jacket has special creases on the side edges of its back - they can stretch, easing moves in the jacket. This is a standard feature at the present but it wasn't in 80's - BDU jacket doesn't have it and, as I know, the other NATO or WPO jackets also don't. Another feature is the tight sleeves like on M1969 tunic - they are complex tailored and not too ease to roll up.

@@utahraptor4729874 you actually don’t need to do every button up, that was more of a parade thing or a on base thing, while in the field most would just leave the top button undone

Its more of an average soviet post ww2 khaki

i prefer the normal hat over the panama hat in looks and functionality even in -20c it keeps my head warm enough so i use it daily
