I think It's actually pretty authentic. A pirate captain's overcoat is very heavy, and so most heavy duty hooks (The kind of which we're accustomed to seeing as hand replacements in hack films such as Pirates of the Caribbean) would have been used to hold them up, when not worn. This then usefully freed up smaller coat hanger hooks for hand duties such as portrayed above. Quite simple history, really.
@@SquireComedy it’s lucky that they all had freshly ironed shirts, and new suits that required coat hangers then isn’t it. “Arrrrr bring me the Egyptian cotton shirt, I be needing a change of clothes and a new hand.”

Hello chaps, we hope you enjoy this one! Both Bill and I have been disastrously sick over Christmas, and so I in particular both look and sound authentically like I'm on a late wartime German ration during winter. Anyway, have a lovely weekend.
A german 1945 story from my stepfathers dad (italian-german): When he was like 12 or 13 in the final months of war, he and some of his friends were forced to man an AA gun. The older soldier in charge was a real asshole apparently, always drinking, punishing them and generally treating them badly. Every evening he'd get shitfaced and drunkenly walk across a narrow dam wall on his way to the town nearby to look for more booze. After one of the kids was killed by an allied bomb due to the soldier not paying proper attention nor allowing them to take cover, my step-grandfather and his friends planned on pushing him down this dam wall to get rid of him quietly. The day came and they were ready to do so but he never showed up. Turns out he had fallen (or purposefully thrown himself) off the dam wall just the night before. He told this story many times but always left out how one of his friends died in front of him, likely because he couldn't handle it. We only know about that part now because he wrote down the full story in his last will, even included a sketch of the location and marked the exact spot where his friend got blown to bits and from where he was watching it happen, I suppose that memeory never faded in the slightest. He died recently.
Since this got a lot of likes, here's another family war story for anyone interested: (I've pretty much asked my whole family about these kinda stories) After watching Stalingrad (the german 1993 movie, great film) my mom told me about her uncle who was a wehrmacht conscript on the eastern front. When winter 41/42 hit the soldiers were losing ground, his unit had to be evacuated from their position. Since they still had access to the coast ships had the order to pick them up. A soviet bombing strike managed to sink/damage the ships however and there was no way to retreat. No resources left the surviving men soon ended up in soviet pow camps, my great-uncle was one of the few who managed to survive. A couple years after the war he was allowed to leave. He never spoke about it apparently but one evening at a family gathering he got very drunk and started telling the story, i was told it wasn't easy to understand since he cried/sobbed like a little kid, his wife then told him to stop since she was caught off guard and felt embarrassed
