@@englishwoodsman when I set it up I thought I may need some extra guy lines you have just verified that with your video mind you it's the first time you've used it so you did well
great video ... this hot tent looks a lil to floppy in the wind ... alot of air coming under the stove compartment ..... hats of to ya! this was a rugged winter stay!
I've watched youtubers pack mounds of snow all around the outside base of the tent when it's very wind and cold. You pack the snow up so the bottom rim of the tent is embedded into the snow and you can't see the bottom of the tent. It prevents the wind going through the inside of the tent. Looks like the packed snow might have been helpful in your conditions. Enjoyed the video.
@@jscudds Yup and if you've got the time energy and available resources you can drop some saplings to create additional wind breaks, or cut and pack the snow in such a way as to assist in creating wind breaks. Basically you build a snow fort around your tent To give it shelter from the rest of the wind. This isn't always viable but it's a possibility to keep in mind when you're doing this kind of camping.
I am Scottish living in Oz. Summer is arriving but i love watching hot tent camping in the cold in Canada, Alaska, Russia and Pommieland. Thanks for the vid
I love these bits: tubes trial inserted the wrong way, Velcro pad inserted the wrong way. Sod’s Law, and so honest, not a sleek post production with everything airbrushed out, just truth. I learned from those examples. Also, when I get really cold I definitely think even slower. GREAT VIDEO!
If that family of 5 aren't very big eaters. I put 2lb of beef in my stew the other night and finished the lot in 2 big meals......the same night 😂. I live in a tent all year around though so I'm caveman hungry all the time 😂😂😂
Was sitting at home last night, the crazy winds battering everything in sight outdoors thinking 'bet some ones camping out in this' and yes here you were lol. Great vid, love those hot tents, really want to get one.
great film dan, takes me back to being on exersize on snow blizzard breacon beacons in the army 1980s,some hellish camp outs,ya done well mate no woosing it! like you said at start its what you really want once in a while, winter storm and a cozy camp, brilliant dan.
English woodsman it's in the title mad dogs and English woodsmen go camping in a threat to life storm!!!! Then seems to be chilled cooking and doing an eatathon!!! Made me laugh even when Dan was doing a nervous laugh!!! You certainly do bring great content and food to the channel!!!! 👍
Thank you for the entertainment. Great channel and English too! Great skills there. Would love to have some of your camping skills. Maybe you should set up a weekend where some of your subscribers can join you camping and you could teach others your camping skills. I would certainly pay for a weekend camping with you but maybe in the summer 🤣 thank you again Very entertaining and knowledgeable video.
Great fun , It made me smile how well you coped really. Camping is really all about a bit of common sense and using what you've got. You can pile up the snow on the bottom of one side of the tent. You don't want to block off all the ventilation. But I am an expert as well as I have watched at least 4 or 5 RUclips Videos. Ha Ha Ha Ha
When my kids were little I always had a massive pan of stew kept warm on the stove every Saturday morning in the winter, so they could run in and out and eat something good with lots of bread to mop up the juices. Great video, food looked amazing ♥️👍
That's was most enjoyable. We've had some extremely windy camps recently in Snowdonia. Thought the tent was going to take off. 😳 That looks a good stove and loving the boiling water on tap.
It’s too bad all these “new” hot tents don’t have snow skirts. It makes a huge difference in more ways than one. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.
I remember capping in similar a few times when I was younger, there was nothing hot about the tent, sleeping bag warm, if you was lucky 😂 The very first time in snow, I knew nothing of sleeping bag ratings, to me a sleeping bag was just that, and no air mat or air bed either, just the floor, I bloody froze
Great video Dan , you managed to do what a lot of you - Tubers did not manage , to Camp in storm Arwin ! , Be Well my Friend , Love to you and the Family mate !.
@@englishwoodsman Yes once a day mate , usually about 1.00 pm Dinnertime , Its not like I am a worker anymore , so do not need the energy , If I ate more , I would end up looking like Mr Blobby ! lol.
Heh, heh, “extremely wrong choice of tent”. You seem to be warm, comfortable and well fed. Does life get better than that? I wish this for all of us. Live well my friendly Englishman. Thanks for sharing. Texas
Great video thank you Dan. I got one of those water heaters with my outbacker stove and you have to put the tap round the back it’s a bit of a pain!! And as you said i had to take it off otherwise it would boil dry. So I don’t use it when I’m by myself easier to just use a kettle. Nothing wrong with taking your own wood ether. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
One of the things I would have down is pack snow around the footings as this would have kept some of the breeze out, not all but some. Love a bit of venison, just a little seasoning and the flavour comes out. Beef stew looked mouth watering. I was out on a solo in my Phoxx 2 and Fathom EV 200 when Arwen hit Suffolk. Held up really well, stayed pretty warm. Bush Pro Tarp was frozen to the tent by morning 🤣
Another great video, i like that style of tent. F.Y.I. I like the way you remind people to hit the life button halfway through. Most RUclipsrs want you to do it at the start, which i don't do, but then i forget to do it later on.
Hello English Woodsman, I've seen many of your videos but never commented, just want to say, I really enjoyed this video, think you are very brave, glad you had a stove and supplies...cheers and hope you got warmed through afterwards
My intial thought was 'mad ass' lol. Then you cooked your stew and my thought changed. With the wood burning stove you looked cosy, did wonder about the condensation. Thankyou for braving the elements x
Wow, at least you now know that tent can take quite a battering, I was dubious when the video started, it looked far too lightweight and flimsy. Turns out it's a ruddy good piece of kit. I look forward to seeing the hammock hot tent when you get round to trying that out.

Currently watching this while camping in 55km/h wind 😂 a least its not snowing here
Wind does certainly make everything more difficult. Like it isn't hard enough with cold weather and condensation. Good food helps.
Finally a tent with a stove I wouldn't be in danger of knocking over in the night
It's a good tent mate but not in the wind

Can see how that water heater could do the job with a base camp, but for an individual its overkill, cheers for showing.
Just ordered a Stovehut, first foray into hot tent camping, was thinking about it but your video sealed the deal
Hi kris the stovehut will be great in normal weather this time in this video the wind was just to much for the tent ,
It’s too bad all these “new” hot tents don’t have snow skirts. It makes a huge difference in more ways than one. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.
Put some wooden stake into the ground upright next to the stove, so the stake keeps the tent walls away.
