I'm awestruck. This is hands down the single most beautiful vehicle I have ever seen. It's mechanical eye candy with a remembrance for a forgotten class of history. You sir, are an artist. Hands down.
Its f*%king gorgeous. I would love to meet that man the work he does is inspirational.
Nice job Jason. Love the car............oh wait it's mine!
Thumbs up. Its beauty.
Doesn't sound like it was running quite right on the day though!
yeah sounded a bit rich down low.
Dem good ol' carburettors :D
Yes!
Surprising that it only takes 7 months to build one, when I saw that car at MN cars and coffee I figured it would've taken quite a bit longer. If I tried to make one it would take me approximately two eternities.
person1492 who knows what's doing knows. This guy followed the traditional recipe to make cars that Italian studios did for Ferrari and Maserati. it's the right way and good knowledge result.
this is really cool and I really like the Gullwing drawing, I hope he builds that.
A posting on his web site dated 9/9/16 says that FF007 with gull wing doors is under construction
It is already built checkout the video of it on jaylenos garrage
4:47 “You can’t get any more connected with this machine unless you actually make a mistake and sit on the gearshift.”
Fred Dietz car dildo
This video needs to be about 10 times as long as it is. I want to see every detail as it's made!
Jasooooon you're the man. Super stoked this series is back, I thought it was dead. Must've watched season 1 like a dozen times now. Keep em coming dude, you're a hell of a presenter.
if the metal work was machine perfect, then it wouldn't be nearly as cool
if you dammage that then it's just a quick repair, the rivets will make it better.
exactly
It's actually not that great in many areas, the panel gaps and the welding are atrocious. The overall design is fantastic tho I hope his skills continue to develope
Period correct workmanship.
flyingmerkel6
wanna bet, guys used to be skilled craftsman and shit like this would NEVER pass , but again I hope the dudes improves
I have been following Chris's work for a long time. Glad he's getting a bit more attention.
Pure Art from a true artist.
you really need to make ALOT more jason drives videos....these are little gems
It's a bit pointless (as far as I know) the bodies are different, but the chassis are the same, so he would still experience roughly the same vehicle characteristics.
jason drives videos in general..not of this car all the time o.O
Nermket Early Rolls Royces basically made the engine and chassis but the body was done by independent coach builders to the request of the customer
This is one of the coolest you've covered, Jason. Love every bit of it!
I like seeing all of the Aircraft Manufacturing tools used here.
A thing of pure beauty. Made by hand. That my friends is a self rewarding skill.
The best car review I've seen. Seriously. Now I remember what drew me to working with cars to begin with. A visceral connection to the designers, engineers, and builders. That's kind of going away, I think. The more complex a car, the less soul it has.
Holy shit - what an awesome car!! Even if the styling may not be to my personal tastes, what an amazing thing! I had no idea there were still craftsmen out there with fabricating skills like these. I'm sure the finished product costs a fortune to buy. Then again, what an amazing thing to own (or just drive)...
Jason, thanks for the review! Your enthusiasm warmed my heart.
I found out about Chris Runge several years ago, his cars are amazing
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
this guy is awesome
Wohooow! keep that up Mr Runge what an absolute beauty! please make the gullwing you put in that drawing...world class!!
Really cool car and video ! Well done
Lovely! I applaud your passion and dedication to such an art. Well done! And, thanx for the access, Jason!
Ahh, driving around in Minnesota fall!! I miss it!
How has this guy not gotten in to racing. If not modern racing, vintage racing. I think he would do really well in it. With all the engineering he does.
Actually the car prior to this is in Vintage racing.
this is great. to see new artisans. i'd love to see more mechanical cars like that.
Ran into this guy by luck! now I find myself watch his videos all the time!!!!!
Very impressive custom build! I've always wanted a Porsche 356 Speedster. This gives me the motivation to just make my own!
That car is a true work of art!
Your best video so far? I really enjoyed it as usual Jason, thanks.
Beautiful. I would buy that in a heartbeat over any new sports car...but I'm afraid to ask how much!
Just discovered this site and I've subscribed. Really good subject matter and Jasons sense of humour fits mine perfectly. Show us more!
Chris, could write a book on how awesome your talent and taste are. Keep it going, man!
good show, gorgeous car, thanks!
love this car he has done a great job
Great video Jason! And what Chris is doing is really really cool! Thanks for putting this together
Looks like a lot of fun to drive
When I won the lottery im getting a car like that. Not a Veyron I can promise you that.
im disapointed at these comments
Great thing about the internet is everybody has a voice. Worst thing about the internet is everybody has a voice.
As Marge Simpson once said: "Anyone can make a difference, but most people shouldn't."
The bad thing about America is that even a sociopath has the chance to become president. The great thing about America is that enough Americans know better than to vote for sociopaths out of some misguided tribalism.
yeah, we sure dodged a bullet. im proud that americans didnt vote hillary in. that bitch is insane.
Well, that's not true you have to be American born or did you forget the rest of us
This may the be first jalopnik video i've watched where the video quality and cinematography wasnt horrendous. Still isnt amazing but the improvement you guys have made is pretty remarkable.
A work of art - lovely!
That garage door shutting down felt like it was closing on a bit of my heart...
Amazing vehicle - my favorite of all time!
thats just stunningly gorgeous
"it fucking goes!!!" I died
Why arn't you on a TV channel ? We here in the UK had top gear, till the BBC shot itself in the foot by getting rid of Jeremy Clarion and replacing him with one of your failed soap stars! You are funny and informative.
Fantastic looking car
Really talented guy.
I'm dying to build something cool outside of the norm.
Well get on it and put it up for us all to see 👀 🤔
I grew up driving air cooled VWs and those cars he is making are amazing. I'd like to see one with the same suspension and transaxle mated to an electric motor.
Beautiful.
Amazing work, love the style
lovely car, looks fun to drive. The weld inside the door looks a bit rough though!
The armpit comparison was quite humorous. I guess you won't be doing Jumping jacks Anytime soon ! 🤔
A case of Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and showering praise and gratitude for being one in a handful of people the owner will allow to drive it because you want to be invited to review other project cars in the future, it is called necessary asskissing.
nice short video but next time please some more details of the car from different angles etc.
Gosh, they made that little panel right then and there? They use such shitty tools to do the cut out. And then it looks perfect. This is the greatest thing ever.
the first 5 seconds and im already in tears
“When you lay on it, it fucking GOes”
Beautiful car. I've been learning how to weld with my powertig welder. I hope to start welding my own body work. I sure hope I can make something as nice as this car some day.
Minnesota, represent! 🤘🏼
Jason knows how to swear. It's perfect.
This makes me want a dually auto union
Beautiful car. Looks like you're in Illinois
Chris is a master
beautiful
Great job.
lovely cars. will he ever bring them to car shows?
God like job. Awesome
I wish he had driven it some place where he could get some reaction shots from people, half the fun of owning a one off car like this is seeing peoples reactions to it.
This is soo cool - where can we find more of his work?
Hey, what a nice and honest review.
thx.
Kind regards,
Miguel
Runge... quite a German name. He definitly makes beautiful cars. Though, I think he should experiment with newer Volkswagen engines, like the 1.4 and 2.0 litre TSI and the 2.0 litre TDI.
It seems very time consuming to hammer out and bend metal to make the shell. No wonder nowadays car bumpers are made of plastic and other flimsy materials. I accidentally switched lanes into the middle lane while driving and didn't notice some asshole going fast and switching into the middle lane too. End result: I paid him $300 and he drove off with his driver and back passenger door smashed in. I drove off with -$300 but only a scratch on my truck's bumper which is made of thick metal. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger, gotta love it.
More of these types of videos!!
For a change, Jason is driving something fast.
Jason Torchinsky - "Failed Blacksmith Apprentince" ROFL :D Where was this filmed at? That surrounding area really looks nice :)
Awesome!!!!!!!. I love it
Yeah I understand where you're coming from. I had a Karmann Ghia back in 68 69 somewhere in there. And it had believe it or not I'm bored and stroked engine with twin horn shaped exhaust. It was low to the ground and corner like an ass so be but it wasn't super fast but it was really fun to drive and I still got caught by a policeman he didn't give me a ticket but he roared at me and said don't ever let me catch you doing that again. And I'm sitting in the driver's seat peeing my pants LOL not. But I miss that car it was a blast to drive. I could put it into drifts going around sharp curves. And when some guy with a bigger car was mad at me about something and started chasing me and the only thing that saved me was we were in town and I kept making 90 degree turns in and out of streets and alleys and he just couldn't keep up with the terms because I was just zooming around them. The only color that I rode in that took curves better was an MG Midget my cousin had. I sat in the seat and I could drag my hand on the ground. It was an amazing car and it was faster of course in my poor old beetle well Karmann Ghia
Good job.
Now that's good Torchlopnik
Man I really love things like that! Too bad I do not have the money and the time to buy or try to make one.
How is safety for this vehicle, can it pass inspection, and would it pass crash test with speed higher than 80km/h? Also can it be insured, and registerd? Thank you
this is polish project of the car becouse its white eagle with corone ?
Paweł Kowalski it’s based on the flag of the german city Frankfurt;)
The car appears to use VW / Porsche suspension ie transverse torsion bars and twin trailing arm front, swing axle rear. But it's not clear
I'm able to spot an error immediately even before watching.
Too small videos: make it half an hour at least dude!
Greetings from Brazil
Awesome!
Very Nice.
always have a roll bar in a convertable racer
excellent
Very cool!
Chris Runge's German herritage has got something to do with this
Im following this guy on instagram!
At 2:30, drop tank in the ceiling, what's the plan?
That is a beautiful car. Once I get my everlast powertig welder, I hope to be able to fabricate my own car frame.
hey, this car is not perfect.... workmanship not 100%, perhaps could up his game a bit....
but .....
I do like this car !!!!..... Well done mate !!!! ..... to those who don't like your car, tell them to piss off.... you are doing great, and I am sure you will get better as time goes by..... but the main things is: this car looks like great FUN to drive !!!
It looks similar in construction to a Spyker. I would encourage the artisan to try and push the style a little further away from Porsche and to develop his own style. Good to see the finished product working.
it looks like he's driving a pair of aluminum Twinkies...
lol
magma
probably foundry magma
これはマシンだ!! 素晴らしい~♪
You don't have to "flip everything inside" the transmission. You simply move the ring gear to the other side of the pinion. The old vans with reduction boxes at the end of the axle were done in the same fashion right from the factory. The front suspension isn't very special either, it's a stock torsion beam with trailing arms, not to take away a thing from the builder, the reviewer just isn't too knowledgeable about VW/Porsche. Personally I'd use a VW engine rather than a 356 Porsche, it's far far cheaper and you can make more hp.
I wish I had the skills he does, and the stick to it to accomplish such a wonderful build. I could do the mechanical parts, wire it, build the chassis. But the pretty stuff, the body and the interior is where the real magic is. Otherwise it's just another dune buggy.
