Thank you for this good primer on maximizing a user’s MainStage experience. Learned some new capabilities about MS.
I’ve been using MainStage for both touring ensembles and worship uses since the first version of MainStage, and have found that the single biggest factor for a trouble free experience is RAM. Simply put, the more RAM in your setup, the less issues you have with MainStage stumbling or crashing. Same goes for the size of your internal hard drive - the bigger the better - especially if you are using external sound libraries.
I usually don’t use the built in sounds provided by Apple, preferring the libraries from Native Instruments and Spectrasonics - both which can be CPU hogs - so for folks that also tend towards outside sound libraries I also recommend as many cores as you can afford.
Because Apple has made it more difficult or impossible to upgrade RAM in their newer machines, I recommend that newer users buy their machine with as much RAM and internal SSD drive space as they can afford. There is never too much RAM/storage space. My current MBP is a 4 core/16GB RAM/1TB SSD drive, and it operates flawlessly running over 25-30 patches per concert with multiple NI/Spectraonics iterations per patch.
    Thanks again for this video!

What would be a good rule of thumb for the sum of the Gigabytes of all the concert instruments versus the RAM memory of my Mac. I have 32 Gb of RAM but seem to have glitches if I load up instruments using Sine or Kontact once they get to the 12 Giga level ( i.e. 1/3). I have a 2019 Mac with 8 cores 2.3kHz. Or is it linked to something else? I am already using aliases etc to minimise

An M3 is generally weaker than an i5- which is a bit below our recommended specs, however if you have at least 8GB of RAM and a decent M3, it will probably run fine. You may have to run at a slightly higher buffer size or with less total patches in your patch list at one time, but it should be workable :)
