Dave, you can use normal splitting to define your edge loops manually by using hard edges as the guide for remesher, it basically lets you determine the edges by mark sharp. Hope that makes sense mate
@@3DJay429 Probably the most useful and easiest option, I know you probably didn't include it in the tutorial because it's obvious what it does, but it would have been good to demo it anyway as it's the feature most hard surface modellers would cum in their pants over.

In the last example, with the sorta saddle shapes, the carved out section on the top ended up with a lot more quads than it had before. Is that intended or desireable?
That depends mate, the amount of quads it has added is not such a big deal as it is relevant to the quad count you set before hand. if you want you can go through and dissolve faces or you can use the density painter in the previous example to give that section a lower quad density, or you could just keep it super simple and choose a lower quad count. Hope this helps mate ? let me know what you think thanks for the comment

I have incomplete but useful information. I gave up on the numbers and just vertex painted with red and cyan (000FFFF) - not blue. It’s definitely mapped to those colors. Also, separate by materials still works with the vertex option on, which I rely on. So I’m able to get what I need done. I think everything works but it does take some practice to get a feel. I recommend some quality time with various default primitives before going to town on your geometry so you don’t have to undo so often testing
