But never thought to check his heartbeat. LOL poor Tula, such an awesome sport while being turned upside down. Thank you Dr. A.J and lil Tula.

So important. I did a canine first aid course for my two, a couple of months after I did it, and just two weeks after I started carrying a first aid kit with me on local walks, one of my dogs stood on something sharp and severed two arteries and a tendon. It was horrific. I honestly think if I didn't have the first aid kit on me I would have lost her. Managed to slow it down enough I could get her into the vets on time. I won't take them out without a full first aid kit now, this all happened about 1000m from home.

I am so glad I found your channel. I'm a helicopter dog mom. I literally owe my life to my furry kids. I want them to have full, happy dog lives for as long as I get to have them around. One thing I don't see discussed very much is their mental health. People don't really think about them as being capable of having psychological issues. In rescue, I've personally witnessed and worked with a lot of dogs, including my own, who needed a little extra work to get through some things. I'm hoping to bring more awareness of it in hopes that people will learn to love them through whatever issues they might need help with. It's always worth it. Seeing them happy and carefree, just enjoying life, has brought joy back into mine. I never really knew what love was until they came into my life. We can learn so much from these amazing animals. Thank you again for all you do for them.

An Ukrainian emergency battle wound care video recommends using tampons to block severely bleeding wounds (such as lacerated arteries) as a way to help stave off a wound bleeding out before it can get proper emergency care. In the case of the example here with Tula, if possible, the tampon(s) would be the first layer before the gauze. For anyone who doesn't know, tampons expand many times their width when they come into contact with blood (or any liquid). They are also sterile in their packaging.

I've had 2 beloved elderly pit mix dogs pass away over the last year.. neither was well enough for surgery and I was afraid to even put them through the stress of traveling.. when I took one of them to the vet her experience was not helpful as she couldn't walk after that.. her x-rays showed a terribly congested heart. Her gums were basically white.. the symptoms at home were shorter breaths, more panting and when I felt around the heart, the beat seemed irregular and sort of wheezing or fluid feel with each breath. I knew when she was this far along that it was likely better to keep her home from that point on. The medicine prescribed did not seem to help. My other elderly developed the same exact symptoms several months later I kept her comfy and gave her your suggestion of hawthorne berry leaves and omega 3s, red meat snacks, warm dry (indoor environment) she passed at home with her family near, lived to be 16❤ grateful for your videos❤

Dr. Jones, what about the technique you once showed to push a lodged item out of the throat by applying pressure in an upward motion by using a long, stiff item (like a hard wooden dowel, the back of a blunt knife, etc.? I wish you could have included that in this video. I never saw anyone do that before. This method could be extremely helpful to gently push it out entirely or loosen it with the long stick from the outside of the neck. It can be used in conjunction with the Heimlich Maneuver or popped out entirely with the stick so you can feel the object from the outside of the throat. Maybe you can find that video demo and add a link in the description and comments? I think that’s a unique method that can potentially save a life.
I wish I had known that specific method when my service e dog once was choking on a piece of dental chew he decided to swallow whole. I might have been able to pop it out faster from the outside of his neck rather than struggling to get it out for 1.5 minutes. It was lodged too deep to grab with my finger. I couldn’t even feel it. Luckily, he eventually was able to cough it up while I was pounding on the front and sides of his chest and trying to do the heimlich (I’m disabled and he a large Lab). I saw that video you made about a year after that scary incident happened.
Please share the link to that video with everyone!

This happened to me last week. My 13 yr old was vomiting. Meanwhile, my other 12 yr old had a mass cell on her paw that ruptured and was turned away twice from the emergency room. I was too busy trying to treat my other dog and lost attention of my 13 yr old. I took her to the emergency room to find out she had an inflamed spleen, she was anemic, had pockets of something on her pancreas, she wasn’t producing any new red blood cells, and the X-rays apparently showed spots like it was cancer. She was lifeless in my arms and made the worst decision to let her go. I’m torn to pieces. 😢

interesting is that most emergencies happen on the weekend when only the emergency vets are in. I tend to uptriage and assume the worst. One night my cat's stomach bloated while he was relaxing with me and his girlfriend outside. this happened after he was coughing, so i slapped him bet shoulder blades prior to the distention. then i got him in the carrier and hopped on my bike. by the time i got there, it went down and vitals were normal. i denied xrays but had a big bill for peace of mind. sometimes that is worth it!

Please help. YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS PROBLEM?
Veterinary ER needs a lot of improvement. WHY is it that they are usually many miles away ; usually in the nearest big city? Our local vets have lots of vet staff but they aren't available at night. It seems to me that with 5 or more vets at a local clinic one could be on call. With 4 or 5 Veterinary clinics in a small town it would be easy to care for their clients' pets... and I believe they should! I know of a recent incident in which the dog had been hit by a car. His hip was broken, 3" deep laceration on front leg, bleeding from mouth and nose and bruising to his eye. Taken to the local vet (open late) yet it was a couple of hours before the dog was given a cursory exam. Vet was with a small dog that had been in a fight..not life threatening. The owners were told they had to drive to city 50 miles away! The delay for even saline or pain care no doubt led to his death. He might have lost the battle anyway but who knows.
Do you know of any organizations that are trying to change that horrible lack?
I remember a time when your vet was there anytime it was an emergency. He/she would ask questions to determine IF it was an emergency and be there for your pet. My vet even took some of the pets in his care home in some cases!

Could you PLEASE give dosing measurements for smaller dogs and ages that you can give the home remedies to. I have a 17 yr old miniature Dachshund and he's at the point of declining lost body fat ect. I'm feeding him as much as he will eat but that's at a 1/2 to a 1/4 of what he used to eat. He's very cold so he's got a nice heating pad. He has developed a horrible ear infection nasty black yeast bad odor. I bought the cream Clotrimazole 1% but I don't know how much to dose him as you said you give a 20 lb dog a 1/4 help. I have him on Benadryl, Carprofin & Sulfameth 400 mg/Trimeth 80n now I'm out of this particular antibiotic tomorrow he will have gotten 4 doses of it. Then I have amoxicillin 250mg. Yes these are medication's from other dogs & my big rooster that had bumble foot. His eye was also infected. I'm putting Quadritop ointment in his eye for that everything is being given every 12 hours. He has improved drastically already. I'm also flushing his ear out with Kin &kind ear cleaner at one time and then Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Ear Therapy for Dogs and Cats. I am also flushing his eye with Vetericyn plus antimicrobial Ophthalmic gel before the Perscription eye ointment. Whew! He's really doing a 100% better than he was. I just thought that I could put the Clotrimazole in his ear to help kill the Yeast because it was very full. Any advice would be so so appreciated❣🥰 We Love You... my ZooCrew and I 😊
