I love Marty's character so much lol. Someone in a comment once described it perfectly, he's smart, but he also always has elevator music playing in his head, he's cool, but he's also dorky and awkward, he constantly acts on impulse and simply can not be left to his own devices without constant supervision

15:00 - There's a deleted scene where it shows future Biff disappearing, but they didn't put it into the theatrical release because they thought it would be too dark. But the implication here is that he dies a few minutes after returning to 2015 because the timeline is adjusting itself to the new future.

When a Biff changed the future he was acting strange when he got out of the delorean because he created a alternate future where he was killed. So he was in the process of fading away line Marty was in part 1 when his hand was disappearing and he was hunched over playing guitar. Basically Biff got rich and maybe Lorraine shot him at some point and he never lives to be old biff.

The future timeline caused by the almanac ("bad" '85) isn't created until '55 Biff starts winning money and using it to alter that timeline. Otherwise Old man Biff would have ended up in a whole different future. If any initial cause could change the future, rather than actual physical changes, then the timeline in the end of the first movie would have blinked into existence the moment when Doc fell and hit his head (and invented the time machine) ... or at any moment leading up to that event, like Doc being born.
Heck! If any event in the past related in any way to things shaping the future will change it, there would only be one permanent timeline set at Big Bang.

I remember watching a show about BTTF back in 80s and it was speculated that maybe Lorraine shot him. But who knows. With what Biff was into just about anything could have happened to him.
There is a deleted scene that shows Biff disappearing. Funny thing is, I remember him disappearing when I saw the movie in theaters. Yet it doesn't seem to be part of the movie. I don't understand how that could have happened.

My favourite bit of behind the scenes info on this movie is regarding the hoverboard scene. There were actually three different tricks that they used to pull off the illusion, but they only used one of those three tricks at any given time, depending on the camera angle. That way, when people were watching it trying to figure out how it was done, once they thought they figured it out, the next cut would show an angle using a different method, making it seem like the other theory was wrong. Two side notes about the hoverboard scene: 1) there was a miscalculation and one of the stunt perfomers got really hurt when Griff's minions went flying. If you watch the scene the way it appears in the final cut, you can actually see her slam against the concret pillar. 2) during interviews while the movie was still in production, one of the directors or writers (I can't remember who right now) was talking about the hoverboards as if it was a real technology that was almost ready for market. It's not clear whether he was being tongue-in-cheek and people mistakenly took him seriously, or if he was intentionally trolling people, but Mattell was inundated with phone calls and letters asking when it would be in stores.

  • @karlajaeger2082
    @karlajaeger2082 3 года назад +4

Old biff went back in time, gave the almanac to himself, and went "back to the future" of 2015. It makes sense bc if doc and marty didn't go to 2015, old biff would never have had the almanac to give to himself in the past. So, the original 2015 timeline only lasted til doc, marty, and Jessica went back in time. It makes sense provided you don't think about it too much.

    • @alvahv
      @alvahv 3 года назад

Technically speaking, the second old biff gives the almanac to young biff that timeline would cease to exist for himself. When he then takes the time machine to the future it would be the timeline of the rich biff.

There is almost nothing in the script or sets that isn’t either a set-up or a payoff or a running gag. A tiny example is Marty not being able to figure out how to open a Pepsi in any time but 1985, or Doc and Marty running back and forth in the road-shots. So good.

One bit of credit these movies deserve that almost nobody gives them is how even Biff's character progresses. Young Biff is an idiot and a bully, adult Biff depending on the timeline is a bit less of an idiot and is either a bully or a servile two-faced jerk who's still a bully if he can get away with it, but old man Biff finally went through enough crap that he stopped being an idiot and is smart enough to put two and two together and realize Doc built a time machine and even deduce how to operate it. Granted, it's just driving a car and typing the date you want to go to in an alpha-numeric display, but he still deduces it as well as the implications of time travel and even warns his younger self about Doc and Marty.

He portrays the real, and early science fiction novelist of the late 1800s into the 1900s, H.G. Wells who wrote the famous 1895 novel "The Time Machine", one he's mostly remembered for. But in this sci-fi movie he actually built it! I won't tell you any more because I don't do spoilers. You'll have to watch it yourself someday, or do a reaction and be one of the first on it. It's really good and a he's a whole different character than Malcolm's character "Alex" in Clockwork!

There were so many things connecting 2 and 3 because they started out as one movie script that ended up being too long, so they split it up and made two movies back-to-back. The were shooting 3 while editing 2.

Poor Jennifer. _Back to the Future_ first came along in 1985. When they wrote it, they didn't have sequels in mind, so when _part ii_ came long, four years later, her presence was _very_ much an afterthought. That's why her part, in this movie, was pretty much spent trying to avoid polluting the timeline.
First, they left her unconscious form in that alley.
Then they took her unconscious form to her future house.
Then she spent her entire time in that house trying to avoid being seen.
Then she bumped into her future self, had a shock, and passed out.
Then Marty and the Doc left her on the front-porch swing of that house and that was the last we saw of her in this movie.

  • @lazyperfectionist1

You remember, in part 1, when the original timeline, in which Marty existed, was giving way to the _new_ timeline, in which Marty _didn't_ exist? Marty was exhibiting _pain._
Consider that, in light of the pain that _Biff_ exhibited when he brought back the _Delorean._ I once owned this movie on DVD, and it had a deleted scene that showed how Biff reacted when Marty, the Doc and the Delorean vanished into the _past._ He cried out in pain, lay down on the ground, and disappeared. They deleted this scene because it raised more questions than it answered.
I watched it once through, regularly, then I watched it once through with the _commentary_ on, and the commentary explained that, somewhere along the line (it didn't explain exactly where) Buff pushed Lorraine too far and she _shot_ him.

25:12 I know this is ~1.5 years late, but that would've been impossible. BTTF wasn't originally planned to have any sequels. The ending does look like it but was meant to be a final joke. Gale and Zemeckis have said on multiple occasions, that had they known there would be a sequel(s), they would've written a different kind of ending.

@@OGBReacts When you tell a story about time travel you have two options: 1. Time travel logic is in itself coherent and makes sense, but you are very limited in terms of the story you are telling
or 2. You tell the story you want to tell and handwave the time travel.
This is more #2, and the movies are better for it. "Looper", "Time Bandits" and "Bill and Teds excellent adventure" and it's sequels are also #2.
Good time travel movies with a time travel logic that makes (kinda) sense are:
"The Terminator" (Not the sequels so much, the sequals make everything concerning the time travel a bit complicated)
      "12 Monkeys"
      "The final Countdown
      "Timeline"
I personally like "Time Rider" but good luck finding it

The first "western" clue/tie-in is actually in the first film. On the town square is a business called Western Auto, and the logo is a neon sign that loops around like a number 9. It's the same 9/spiral shape that happens when Doc's Delorean gets struck by lightning sending it to the Old West. It can't be a simple coincidence, because this trilogy is super well organized.

seeing this in the theater was such a BLAST. i was only 7 when the first one came out so i only saw it on VHS, but this one and #3 in the theater was such a great experience. so yes, absolutely definitely YES do a reaction to #3 for us!
okay i'm sure other people have told you these things but i'm gonna anyway.
    - they filmed #2 and #3 back to back and they were released one year apart, so they're both very intertwined.
    - did alternate 1985 biff remind you of anybody? somebody who is very, very familiar to us all today? who has been very familiar to us since, oh, hmmm, the 2016 presidential election? yeah, he was totally based on 80s trump, the filmmakers have admitted to it. it's pretty damn hilarious when you think about it.
    - if you go back and watch the first one, in one of the scenes where doc is setting up the wire at the clock tower in the evening, in the background you can see a guy on a bike with a little hat like doc had in this one. i'm sure it was just a random extra since when they were making #1 they had no plans for any sequels, but they probably noticed it and went "oh hey, we can dress doc up like that for this one, it'll be a cute easter egg."
    - honestly this one of the best trilogies ever. all three are so tightly written and they flow together seamlessly. marty & doc are a fantastic duo. i will never, ever get tired of seeing any of these.
and lastly, i LOVE your reactions, please keep them coming! you're cute as fuck and i adore your enthusiasm :)

I'm not exactly sure what your question was in the middle of the reaction...you can hardly be surprised! But if this helps...
TLDR It's fiction, while time travel into the future might be theoretically possible, into the past isn't. Also...
Even if one traveled into the future, they couldn't travel into the their own future. Remember when Einstein (the dog) traveled one minute into the future in BTTF? During that minute, was there an Einstein in existence? No, Doc and Marty had to wait for him to reappear in the Delorean...by the same token, when Doc, Marty and Jenifer traveled 30yrs into the future...Marty's family, Jenifer's family, Einstein and everything in existence would have had to wait 30yrs for them to reappear. So in essence Doc would never have thought to bring Marty into the future to try to fix his son...he'd have known that taking Marty out of existence in 1985 would effectively render the rest of Marty's life, his family and his son 'out of existence...at least in terms of the timeline they were traveling to...Heavy.
So, in conclusion, no point in trying to make sense of it, none of it is possible. Just enjoy it and don't allow your disbelief to get in the way too much... :-)
I suspect, that it's not so much that your 'dumb' that's making you not understand it....eh it might... :-) I actually think it's because you're overthinking it. None of it's possible so when you overthink it, it makes the story incredibly implausible and destroys any semblance of your _suspension of disbelief._
It's an entertaining, funny and engaging yarn...it's impossible...but a good yarn.

Bob Gale, the screenwriter for these films, was inspired by the SF novel called Up the Line, by Robert Silverberg...characters winking out of existence due to mucking up timelines that erase previous timelines, sex and romance between ancestors and descendants, characters having to deal with other versions of themselves - anyone who loves this stuff and reads should read Up the Line.
Meanwhile, three films have a weird connection that ends with Back to the Future 2. The 1982 spy/techno-thriller Firefox used footage from the spy/submarine movie Ice Station Zebra, when it needed some ‘submarine in the Arctic’ scenes. Later, Back to the Future 2 - for its opening credits sequence where we have the flying car’s POV through the clouds at high speed is shown...well that’s unused footage of the plane’s flying scenes in Firefox. If anyone knows of a film using unused Back to the Future 2 footage, let me know (but I doubt it). Anyway, I always think of Ice Station Zebra, and Firefox, and Back to the Future 2 as weirdly linked.
When Old Biff gets out of the Delorean after he returns to 2015, and seems to be in obvious pain, they cut out the final part of the scene where he literally winks out of existence. Logically, he would cease to exist, because he changed his own past and therefore destroyed the older version of himself. But the filmmakers felt the audience would not understand Old Biff simply disappearing...although, personally, I think they should have left that part in, because we had sort of seen all that established in the first film, when Marty narrowly avoided disappearing, in obvious pain as it was happening.

When marty and doc change the future the results are instantaneous and they go to the altered future, but when biff does it he can go back to the original timeline. But since in the end he gets over the chicken thing the 2015 they went to wasn't really the future.....this is confusing.

I saw this film six times, in theatres, when it originally came out, and became quite obsessed with it.
The first edition of a huge reference book called The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction came out in 1979, too early to deal with the Back to the Future films. But, an updated version of the book got published in 1993, and of course did have entries discussing each Back to the Future film. Essentially, it said that Back to the Future 2 was the better film, the more satisfying and rewarding film, for a pure Science Fiction fan. By contrast, the first film would more likely be the sentimental favourite for the average filmgoer, where the time travel complexities are not really as complex and challenging to grasp. I have to admit Back to the Future 2 is SF paradise for me, in a way that Back to the Future is not. It’s like you said - it’s operating at a whole other level. I could not get enough of this film, for a period of about three weeks, when it came out. I had to make sure I saw it enough times at the cinema, to get every detail out of it I could.
