Top 5 Largest Empires

    I'm sorry if your favorite empire didn't make the list. Note that the greatest or the most known doesn't mean it is the largest.
    Today historians still argue over exact sizes. For example, whether lands like North Siberia, North Canadian islands and some parts of Africa where there were no inhabitants should be considered part of British and Russian empires or not. On text books these days they do. So does this video. However, those text books don't include Siberia to the Mongol empire. Also the land size number of Mongol Empire in this video doesn't include North Siberia.
    Now historians agree that under Kublai Khaan, the Mongol empire was still considered one empire which makes it the largest empire whether Siberia is included to the land measurement or not.
    Music in this video is used from Mongolian deep throat singer group called Husugtun. Don't forget to like this video and subscribe my channel. Thank you!

      Mongols could have rule the World together. There was no one could stand against them. west europe was living in fear waiting to be raid. german and france spain everyone were giving them golds each month. But the reason why Mongols fell was They fought each other. they fought each other for a Crown and began a civil war . they didnt unite since the civil war. and fell.

    Though I do love the British, they werent really an empire in the same sense as the Mongols or Romans. Half their territory wasnt actually conquered, it just had British living on it who occaisionally had to deal with Natives. Besides, they had rifles when the natives had spears. The Mongols were at first less advanced. They won through sheer tactical brilliance, defeating the two most advanced powers in the world (China and Persia) and actually fought complex campaigns to gain territory. Far more impressive than the British. Still, the British did have the coolest navy ever, whooping France's butt for centuries.

      While the British didn't TECHNICALLY conquer all of India (I'm an Indian so I know a fair bit about this part of the Empire's history), they did have a significant military presence in ALL of modern day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. That is a HUGE area. And that's just a small part of their Empire.
      Continuing on, like I said, while they didn't TECHNICALLY conquer 100% of this landmass, they were the largest military presence in the region. The British army was a well-oiled, well-drilled, no-nonsense military machine that could inspire terror in the hearts of every army around them (and not JUST because of superior weaponry, but also because of better training). They would just sit around threatening to usurp the rule of any prince or king or ruler who did not pay them a tax and replace them with rulers who were more favourable to the British.
      It was this scare-mongering tactic that won them the Raj (the British Empire as it is known in India). The entire Raj was won with about as much blood split on both sides (British and Native) as was probably split in maybe one Mongol battle (The Battle of Samarkand, maybe).
      The Mongols went to war VERY frequently and VERY brutally. But does that ALONE make them better than the British who won about as much landmass as the Mongols did (maybe more) with a fraction of the blood being spilt?

    The amount of people saying the Brits were better than the Mongols is ridiculous. The Brits stuck their flag in whatever empty land they found, and thanks to disease and superior equipment took out natives. The Brits never truly dominated the world like the Mongols. The Mongols actually invaded already established Empires and cities, instead of just finding empty land, they TOOK land.
    Also, Muslims would have probably ruled the world by now if it wasn't for the Mongols destroying the Abbasid Caliphate, which was pretty much the intellectual center of the world at the time.

      Your view has its point. However, you are using your arguments arbitrarily. The Mongols actually never established an empire reaching this far. They had no such thing as a state as we would call it, no proper administration or laws that they would enforce in those areas taken. And thinking of the fact that the video is called "largest empires of the world", I would actually not count the Mongols in. Or the Huns. Same points.

No one cant get even close in that time and dense populated areas have been invaded. Timur was also legend as a commander, tactics from him were awesome. He won the warfare with camels versus elephants army with a wise tactic.

    Batu Khan was the "supreme commander" in name since he was the grandson of Genghis (although his father Jochi may have been a Merkit, not Mongol), but Subodai had control of the army as the field marshal and made all strategic and tactical military decisions during the campaigns.
    As far as dominance, I've studied enough empires and military campaigns to know. I don't rely on Wikipedia and Internet blogs. I've read hundreds of academic books over many decades.

    I've read way more books about Alexander the Great and the ancient Greeks, Julius Caesar, Scipio Africanus, the Roman-Punic Wars, Augustus, the Roman Empire in general, etc. than about Genghis and the Mongols. I have equal amount of interest in both Eastern and Western histories. I plan to really delve into the history of Mohammed and Islam soon. I'm also very interested in the history of South America - Che Guevara, Bolivar, etc.

    The Mongol Empire - although it started to splinter with Mongke Khan's death in 1259 - had its several remnants that remained influential in Russia and China for hundreds of years. The Russian Czars completely based their authoritarian rule based on the rule of the Mongol Khans. Kubilai Khan created the Yuan Dynasty and the word Yuan is still used as the name of the Chinese currency. Kubilai once again united the Chinese kingdoms. The influence of the Mongol Empire was immense in Asia.

    The Mongolian empire was the largest CONTIGUOUS empire the world has seen, but over all The British Empire has been the largest empire the world has so far seen. Respect of course to the Mongolian Empire for sustaining as long as it did, and a great empire it was, but it isn't about how long an empire sustains that makes it great, it's about how much of an impact that empire has on the world that makes it great. That's why I personally consider the Roman Empire to be the greatest empire ever, because the Ancient Romans had such a strong impact on the world and were a very forward thinking people. Roman Engineering was the finest of its day and of course it was the Romans who invented concrete. Roman structures like the Pantheon and Coliseum for the time are a display of outstanding technology and research. The Romans were basically the first to use plumbing, buy building Aqueducts in 312 BC.The Romans were the first to quarry, a system still used today. The list is very long and those were just some examples of what the Romans are responsible for. Many cultures and Empires have contributed to the world but Ancient Rome contributed greatly to the development of law, war, art, literature, architecture, technology, religion and language.

    • @Demostravius
      @Demostravius 9 лет назад

      ***** Well you say that but it could easily be argued the British Empire is also the greatest. The foundations of Europe are heavily lain on the Roman Empire, of course, but the British Empire: Abolished slavery and piracy (to this day the Royal Navy takes part of securing the seas globally), introduced English as the global language (which has had a huge effect), founded and moulded the US and has invented/taken part in so many things important to the modern world it is crazy. Not to mention the UK's involvement in modern Europe (EU) which is arguably the single biggest cause of global peace in human history.
      At the end of the day though, I am not sure if there is a decent way to measure it.

    • @deriter64
      @deriter64 9 лет назад

      I agree with much of what you say but shouldn't the Roman Empire get at least some points for sustainability? The age of emperors lasted 500 years and the republican when it acted like an empire another 500 and that doesn't even count the Byzantines. That's a long time compared to the other empires cited and a time beset with war with powerful rivals, civil war, some very bad rulers, plague, widespread corruption, and other factors that laid low some civilizations. It changed of course over centuries but something in its structure saw it remain, for good or bad, the Roman Empire.

      @Antonio_Lobo 10 лет назад

      Wisihywasshy95 King Felipe II of Spain and I of Portugal was the only sovereign and u say it was not a single empire? Curious. Let me tell u one more single thing, if he had inherited the political view and clearness that his father had and moved the Court to Lisbon, the Iberian Empire should have endured quite more as a single body. But this, of course, is just guessing and uchronia. Greetings.

    • @ConcreteCrescent
      @ConcreteCrescent 10 лет назад

      Lykoslakoniakos As far as my understanding of it goes, it wasn't a single empire at all. The Iberian Union was a very complex entity; stating that it was merely a merging of two empires is too simplistic a way of looking at it. It was a period in which the kingdoms of Portugal and Spain effectively united, but Portugal was never annexed or absorbed by Spain on a national level. For the most part, Portugal still held general autonomy, albeit with various degrees of Spanish intervention.
      I tend to think of the Iberian Union in a similar way to the conceptual Angevin Empire. The Plantagenet family, who were once the ruling family in England, also controlled huge areas of France (including Paris) during the Hundred Years' War. However, despite many of these lands being conquered by English armies, they weren't technically English lands - they belonged to the House of Plantagenet. In other words, the conflict between England and France was actually a conflict between two dynasties, not two nations. I think comparisons can be drawn here to the Iberian Union. It wasn't a Spanish takeover of Portugal per se, but a partial political union that occurred as a result of a Spanish monarch taking the Portuguese throne.

    • @Antonio_Lobo
      @Antonio_Lobo 10 лет назад

      In fact i think would be like Henry V Lancaster, who really would inherit the crown of France. The executive power was in the hands of Felipe Habsburgo, so he was the only soverein of the whole territory! Again his main mistake (from a practical point of view) was not to move the court to Lisbon. His Spanish subjects did not see he as a stranger, as Portuguese did. Anyhow, this would prove better for them cause his descendants marked
      our Dusk!

    • @ConcreteCrescent
      @ConcreteCrescent 10 лет назад

      Lykoslakoniakos Well, whichever way you look at it, the Iberian Union was certainly very interesting. Personally, I don't view it as an amalgamation of the Portuguese and Spanish empires, simply because I view its establishment as a monarchical issue, rather than a national one.

    @ogropor 7 лет назад +14

    Genghis Khan's mother Öülen (Öğülen) was Kongur-At (Brown horse in turkic) Turk (Today's Kazakh origin clan). She was married with a Merg-İt(wise dog/wolf in turkic) clan chief Yeğe Çilelü(randy/wild fresh horse dung in turkic) (Another Turkic clan, Kazakh origin) . But she was abducted by Yesügey, a Kamag Mongol. And gave birth 5 children, Temüçin (Genghis Khan) was one of them. And Genghis Khan's wife, Börte was a Kongur-At too. So Temüçin was half Mongol, half Turk. But his children had more Turkic blood than Mongolic. s. So we can say that Genghis Khan's empire was a Turco-Mongol Empire.

    The second, starting at around 1:50, I cannot get a read on Shazam. Does anyone know the name of the second song? I wish I could google the lyrics but I am unable to write the words! Thank you in advance.
