Interesting points, thanks for sharing. A local coach has been preaching the opposite, so I never considered the middle as a viable option. Obiviously have to hit quality balls, but this makes a lot of sense
@@thetennismenu As someone who's always just gone for big shots, because it's fun, I'm trying to find a balance of attack and consistency on returns, and other rally shots.
@@thetennismenu yes, trying to learn that. As soon as I up my movement intensity, I hit bigger shots than I'd like. I can't separate them. I want to hit really intense returns with compact swings. Difficult.
@@mightbefireit’s definitely a challenge. I like to use a car analogy - let your feet generate the speed (be the accelerator) and your hands steer the ball (steering wheel)
Yes. But if you consistently hit your balls with depth, you will eventually receive a soft, sitter ball from your opponent. Enabling you to then have time and space to set up for a passing winner shot.
@@karadale5219 good point but I guess there’s others layers you can add to playing middle. Depth, target the weaker side, height etc. trying to use elements of what your opponent doesn’t like to draw the shorter or slower ball so you can expose them by spreading the court after that.
Yes! Big targets. No sidelines, no ESPN highlight shots.

I need to watch this video before, DURING, and after my matches! 😆

Very nice, would love to see a doubles equivalent of this
@@mightbefire sounds good. Gives me an idea for some content creation. 😊

@ it’s always a challenge. I use the language of “controlled aggression”, meaning stay aggressive but use more margin for error 💪

Aren’t you also giving all those 3 benefits to your opponent as well playing to the middle?😊

How do you know they will hit a soft sitter before you hit one? Is this basically a pusher mode?

Makes sense. Thanks, coach.
