  • Step-by-step video on my installation of power folding mirrors on a 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime SE.
    The kit is intended for other models of the RAV4 (not the Prime) but I was able to make it work on my Prime with some modifications (shown in the video).

    Big thanks for CarTrimHome for working with me and answering any questions I had along the way.

    These should be standard on the XSE.

    Great instructions! That's a lot of work for a feature that should be come standard. Get with the program Toyota.

    My 2024 Rav 4 SE needs this

    Great Video . I just bought a 2024 Rav4 prime XSE thinking it must have this feature. It doesn't, and I am embarrassed to say I assumed that it did. What kind of company could do this modification? A custom car shop? I don't know where to start. thanks for any suggestions. I have a tight garage, and maybe an undersized brain :)

      Congrats on the new purchase! Yeah, either a custom shop or you can probably look for a shop that specializes in audio system installs - they're good with electrical and taking things apart.
      That being said, I'm not sure how many places would be willing or able to overcome the 2 issues I ran into in the ways that I did (I'm talking about 3D printing the adapters in the switch, and trimming down the plastic switch cover to fit).
      Send them my video so they know what they're getting into before they start.

    Got it all done but couldn't get the ribbon cable to the Auto switch on the Driver's Side Panel to work. I filed it down to fit but it doesn't work. Do you know where I can order just the 3 wire cable to the switch on the door panel? All done, but 1 foot from the finish line (help) - thanks for your video.

      I ended up emailing CarTrimHome and they sent me a ribbon cable replacement because one of the buttons on mine wore out. Which version of the RAV4 do you have?

    Another question. If you manually fold in the mirrors while the car is unlocked, does the mirrors still fold out if you lock/unlock the car?
    Ex: a tight space where I have to fold the mirrors in before pulling in and keep the windows folded the entire time to avoid hitting something.

    • @fixallthethings
      @fixallthethings  2 месяца назад +1

      I'll need to test this again but from what I remember, I think they should stay folded if you manually fold them.

    Do you have the part number for the black mirror caps? Thank you!

    • @fixallthethings
      @fixallthethings  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes, the left and right sides have different part numbers. They are 87915-42200-C0 and 87945-42200-C0.

    Is there any possible way you can provide the STL files for the 3d printed parts? Great job this detailed video by the way!

    • @fixallthethings
      @fixallthethings  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yes! Sorry it took me so long to reply - I was on vacation. I threw the STL file on Thingiverse just now but since this is my first upload they said it should take about 24 hours (as of 8PM CST March 8) before anyone can see it. Here's the link: www.thingiverse.com/thing:6523420. Keep in mind I did make these a tad bit too tall so you'll have to sand the tops down a tiny bit to get it exactly flush with the switch assembly. Also the STL file only has one so you'll need to print two. Good luck!

      I just checked and my post on Thingiverse hadn't been published - I had to manually approve it, but it should be good to go now.

      Thank you so much for providing the STL files. This will definitely be my next mod. My only concern is that I have the version with a panoramic view which has a camera on the underside of the mirror. I reached out to the vendor and asked if the kit will still work, but they have not replied. What is your opinion on this possibly working with the panoramic view cameras?

      @@johnlee3776 no problem! On their site when you go to select the model, the only option is "my car does not have a 360 camera" so sounds like it isn't compatible. That being said, I would encourage you and others to reach out to them and ask them to make a compatible version. I know companies like this regularly work to improve their product and if there is enough demand they can probably come up with something that works (within reason).

      Sounds like a good idea. I reached out to them again just now by simply replying to my original sent message. I'll update here whenever I get more info on their responses. Thanks again!

    I bought a 2023 Prime XSE. but this feature doesn’t come with it. Does any one have any idea the cost to have it installed? Thanks

    • @fixallthethings
      @fixallthethings  2 месяца назад +1

      The kit was about $200. It took me (an amateur) two nights to do the install, a total of probably about 6-8 hours, including taking pictures. A professional should be able to get this done quicker. I would call up a few dealers or local shops and get some labor quotes from them.

    • @ReyLaFleur
      @ReyLaFleur 2 месяца назад

      Most shops charge extra for electrical, APX $150-175 an hour. I have extensive mod experience with aircraft so this looks like a 4-5hr labor so depending on the shop add another $600-$1000 for install.

    Will this work on ‘24 XSE hybrid?

    • @fixallthethings
      @fixallthethings  3 месяца назад +1

      I just checked their website - looks like they're still only compatible if you do not have the 360 camera system. I'm not sure whether or not the XSE hybrid has that. Someone in one of the other comments mentioned they were reaching out to Cartrimhome to ask whether this was possible, but as of now there is no response yet.

      @@fixallthethings thank you. No, I do not have 360 cam, just blind spot monitoring and heated mirrors

    • @fixallthethings
      @fixallthethings  3 месяца назад

      @@SATXrattlesnake I'm pretty sure you should be good to go then. My Prime SE also has the blind spot monitoring and heated mirrors.
      I'm not sure whether CarTrimHome has updated their design to accommodate for the difference in the switch housing like on my Prime, or whether the switch on the Hybrid even needed modification. But that's a minor thing in overall scope of this project.

      I do not. I believe I remember reading that they won't work with the 360 camera, but I'm not seeing that on their site currently, so it's possible they updated it to work. I'd send them an email with any questions. They respond pretty quickly and are very helpful.

      Cartrimhome just replied and they asked if I can check a specific type of plug on my "copilot." I'm not sure what that means, but they did send 2 photos of the plug they are talking about.
