Bokator, one of the disciplines of Kbach Kun Boran Khmer

Le bokator est une discipline martiale parmi tant d'autres (épée, long bâton, kun chbab, kun daï, etc...) de l'Art martial khmer appelé Kbach Kun Boran Khmer.
L'origine du mot vient du sanskrit et du pali : "lkot tvik et lkol tvi".
Les thaïs ont "emprunté" la discipline martiale khmère et l'ont renommée "lboh to".
Lorsque les khmers l'ont reprise, ils l'ont appelée "lbokator".
Avec le temps, la prononciation "l" du "lbokator" a disparu. Le "lbokator" devient "bokator".
"Bok" en khmer signifie "piquer", "tor" veut dire "lion".
Cela ne veut pas dire que le "bokator" est l'Art martial né d'un combat avec un lion. C'est comme si on disait qu'un marche-pieds était fait pour marcher sur les pieds.
Le "bokator" est défini dans le dictionnaire cambodgien édité en 1967 par Samdech CHOUNATH comme un court bâton que l'on utilise pour lutter contre le long bâton ou pour se défendre.
L'Art d'utiliser le(s) court(s) bâton(s) est appelé le Kun Bokator. Ce dernier fait partie du Kbach Kun Boran Khmer (qui regroupe l'ensemble des disciplines martiales khmères.
A titre d'illustrations, imaginons qu'on appelle le KKBK un fruit, le bokator une mangue, le long bâton une pomme.
La mangue (ici le bokator) n'est pas une pomme, et ne peut représenter le fruit qui est un terme global qui regroupe la mange, la pomme, etc...
Il en est de même pour le bokator. Il ne peut pas représenter l'ensemble des disciplines martiales khmères (KKBK). Il n'est qu'une disciplines de l'Art martial khmer, le Kbach Kun Boran Khmer.
Sous le règne de Jayavarman VII, le KKBK est justement appelé le "Yuthakun Khöm".

It does not mean that origin of bokator was fight with a lion.
For example, in French, a marchepied ( marche=walk - pied=foot) is not a thing for walking on foot.
" Bokator " is defined in the Cambodian dictionary edited in 1967 by Samdech CHOUNATH as a short stick which we use to struggle against the long stick or self-defence.
The way to fight with short stick (s) is called Kun Bokator. Bokator is a discipline that belongs to Kbach Kun Boran Khmer (who regroups all khmer martial disciplines).

El bokator es una disciplina marcial entre tantos otros (espada, palo largo, kun chbab (lucha), kun daï, etc) del Arte marcial khmer llamado Kbach Kun Boran Khmer.
El origen de la palabra viene del sánscrito y del pali: " lkot tvik y lkol tvi ".
Los thais "prestaron" la disciplina marcial khmer y lo renombraron « lboh to »
Cuando los khmers (la) repitieron , (la) llamaron el " lbokator ".
Con tiempo, la pronunciación "l" del "lbokator" desapareció. El "lbokator" se hace bokator ".
"Bok" en khmer significa "pinchar", "Tor" quiere decir "león".
Esto no quiere decir que el "bokator" es el Arte marcial nacido de un combate con un león. Es como si decíamos que estribos había sido hecho para pisotear.
El "bokator" es definido en el diccionario camboyano editado en 1967 por Samdech CHOUNATH como un palo corto que se utiliza para luchar contra el palo largo o para defenderse.
