Then They Came For The Poets - TFF episode 77
Poetry readings used to be spaces of erotic energy in which the poets on the stage, the purveyors of beautiful words, had power, and we in the audience wanted to bask in the glow. Now that’s all forbidden.

As allegations of sexual harassment sweep through the publishing industry-resulting in canceled book deals, boycotts by bookstores and expulsions from writers’ conferences-publishers, agents and editors are grappling with how to tackle the issue. As in the entertainment business, where celebrated actors have lost starring roles in TV shows and movies, publishing companies are facing painful trade-offs as they cut ties with accused men in hopes of minimizing any collateral damage.
Jamie Thomas, a manager and children’s book buyer at the bookstore Women & Children First in Chicago, removed books by Mr. Asher, Mr. Dashner and Mr. Alexie from the store’s shelves. “I don’t want to have our customers having to come in here and ask why we’re supporting someone accused of sexual misconduct,” she said.

" . . . the female of the species is more deadly than the male . . . According to Kipling
I set this to music, but when performing, I have to leave out a couple problematic verses to avoid triggering the natives.
very interesting video, thanks Dr
Courtly love is dead, the courts are emptied of all nobility and the troubadours are all gone.
only the senile king and the jesters remain.
@@axeman2638 Indeed. I dream of those days returning. When the Minne will be sung of again.
This creeping evil knows no boundaries
This is one reason men need male only spaces
hey, cool it with the anti-semitic remarks.
“In keeping with creeping evil across the Millenia.
"Women and Children First"
Isn't that a Portlandia sketch? LOL
I hereby pledge
In those short lines
To respect no power greater
Because those silly guidelines
Will make do as good toilet paper
Erm, it needs some tinkering.
There's also the fact that it's near impossible to get any poetry recognized or published that isn't the theme of:
"I'm an insert identity here, look at how victimised I am!"
%90 of the people trading on this are women or male feminists, and woe betide you if you have any poetry which isn't! validating the victim identity narrative.
At a poetry reading, where people were showing their work to the poet Henry Normal, I honestly had three different women all tell me to take my stuff and leave, and that I was threatening the "narrative of liberation", by daring to write on things that were, mmm, different!
Then again, the publishing industry is so female dominated at the moment, its impossible to get anything published, even with a doctorate.
First thing to go is a sense of humour. ?
Old poetic advice for the censorious female: “If thou dost marry, I’ll give thee this plague for thy dowry. Be thou as chaste as ice, as pure as snow, thou shalt not escape calumny. Get thee to a nunnery, go. Farewell. Or, if thou wilt needs marry, marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery, go, and quickly too. Farewell.” Willy Shakespeare, a poet currently cancelled as cancelled can be.
An creative person acting out their emotions and pursuing women? That's unheard of throughout history. What's the world coming to. We must only allow people with advanced technical degrees to do partake in creative writing.
Janice Fiamengo is HOT!
Back off!. I saw her first.
She got that sexy library lady thing going on hasn't she?
Smokin' hot!
Thanks!
THIS IS A TERRIBLE SAD ACCUSATION- I FEEL I WAS HARMED IN MY ART CAREER IS A SIMILAR WAY
‘You’re hot. Sorry, I have anxiety and I’m depressed’.
Those women should be put in jail
I'm guessing they don't like Bukowski.
😂
But wouldn't the act of giving advance consent to a sexual advance itself be a non-consensual sexual advance?
we had a joke in the military that you needed a signed contractual release form before making out with someone after a date, now I guess you need one just to make small talk at the bar
Dear Dr. Fiamengo: If I were to try to publish say 3 or 4 of my poems with a view to getting some money for them, where would be the best place to do this please? They are each about a page long.
I am told I am a good poet.
but 6 years ago. what's the situation now? I might want to read somewhere. Has Wokeness ruined poetry?
My name is Alien.
Big Alien!
Big Bad Alien!!
Alien 7040 billion C.
**Smartphone**
If your phone's temperature is above 44° C, it's too hot.
There are approximately 6.84 billion smartphones in the world.
**Computers**
70° to 85°C (158°F to 185°F): This is the normal CPU temperature range for gamers or systems running intense programs.
In 2019, there were over 2 billion computers in the world, including servers, desktops, and laptops.
**Airplane**
According to the latest estimates, there are approximately 100,000 flights per day.
This number includes all types of flights, including passenger, cargo, and military aircraft.
Passenger flights alone account for over 90,000 flights per day, transporting millions of passengers to destinations all around the world.
Inside the typical commercial jet engine, the fuel burns in the combustion chamber at up to 2000 degrees Celsius.
**Nuclear power plant**
Nuclear energy now provides about 9% of the world's electricity from about 440 power reactors.
High-temperature nuclear heat applications can be subdivided into two fundamentally different techniques - the use of steam up to temperatures of 540°C, and the direct use of the heat transferred through a heat-exchanger at up to temperatures of 950°C.
Nuclear plants release 2 MWh heat per MWh electricity produced. The heat of vaporization of water at 100 °C is 2,23e+6 joules per kg. So 2 MWh or 2 * 3,6e+9 joules can vaporize 7,2e+9 / 2,23e+6 kg = 3,2 tons of water.
**An overhead power line**
An overhead power line is a structure used in electric power transmission and distribution to transmit electrical energy along large distances.
It consists of one or more conductors (commonly multiples of three) suspended by towers or poles.
Since the surrounding air provides good cooling, insulation along long passages and allows optical inspection, overhead power lines are generally the lowest-cost method of power transmission for large quantities of electric energy.
The American power grid is sometimes called “the world's largest machine,” with its more than 500,000 miles of high-voltage transmission lines, 5 million miles of distribution lines, and thousands of power plants
The total length of transmission circuits worldwide is estimated at 4.7 million kilometres, and the length of distribution grids between 88 and 104 million km.
Overhead lines are typically operated at temperatures of 80degC (depending on conductor material, conductor sag and ambient conditions). In certain conditions temporary overload up to approximately 100degC is allowed.
**Car**
To put it simply, nobody has an exact car count for the entire globe, but a fair estimate can be made using data from automotive industry research firm Hedges & Company.
The number of cars in the world is estimated to be around 1.47 billion vehicles.
For most of the modern car, the normal operating engine temperature is in the range of 75 to 105 degrees Celsius.
**Train**
The National Rail network of 10,072 route miles (16,116 km) in Great Britain and 189 route miles (303 route km) in Northern Ireland carries over 18,000 passenger and 1,000 freight trains daily.
Indian railway runs 13,169 passenger trains daily, on both long-distance and suburban routes, covering 7,325 stations across India. Mail or Express trains, the most common types of trains, run at an average speed of 50.6 km/h.
At 120 degrees F, the locomotive may be placed under load and used in light engine, light use. At 140 degrees F, the locomotive has reached the lower limit of "normal operating temperature range" which for most of our locos ends at 180 degrees (140-180 F). At this point the loco may be used for normal use.
**Air conditioner**
An air conditioner provides cold air inside your home or enclosed space by actually removing heat and humidity from the indoor air.
It returns the cooled air to the indoor space, and transfers the unwanted heat and humidity outside.
Roughly 2 billion air conditioning units are now in operation around the world, making space cooling one of the leading drivers of rising electricity demand in buildings and of generation capacity additions to meet peak power demand.
Residential units in operation account for nearly 70% of the total.
Air conditioners work on three power factors; Real Power, Apparent Power and Reactive Power.
Real Power is the instant product of voltage and current, Apparent Power is the average power of current and voltage.
Reactive Power is the power consumed in an air conditioning unit that does not perform any useful work.
Usually, the work is the useful part of this energy transfer, while heat is the nasty by-product - for example, in a lighting fixture. The useful work is that electric energy is converted into light energy.
