Hopefully, someday I can afford your wares. I'm just not to that tax bracket yet. Your products are really beautiful, and thank you for teaching me how to dress well.
When after 19 years of living in your Scottish Town, you learn that's where burberry scarfs are made from an American RUclips video. Greetings from Ayr, loving your content.
I have to say Raphael, your videos are extremely well researched; it is obvious a great deal of time and effort go into your productions. I have learned a great deal from you over the last two years about Men's Fashion, History of Clothie ie. Seersucker, and how to properly wear a Cumberbun. I discovered your online presence one Saturday morning while searching out how to properly wear a Polo shirt. This lead to my viewing most all of your videos, which opened up for me, a whole world in updating my wardrobe and properly dressing. I very much appreciate all I have learned from you and I know, you are definitely leaving your mark upon this world. For this I am most grateful.
Honestly, I think if someone buys it in another color, nobody would think twice about if it was Burberry or a regular scarf But, I think if you own a Burberry trench, the scarf just looks really classic with it & I will never dislike that combo. The colors perfectly match a camel coat for a reason
In the other colourways the proportions of the check pattern are the same, it's still very recognisable to people who like heritage or luxury clothing. I guess for the wider public they only would notice the classic colourways but they'd probably associate it with chavs
I looked into that Johnstons of Elgin company, and it's not often that im truly impressed by solid jewel colors but their basic cashmere scarf options at $215 are actually incredible to the point where im having trouble deciding what to go for.
I wove a ‘mink yarn’ scarf for my husband. I like handwoven and so does he. Snobbery par excellance. Lol Just having fun. Still, I am a fiber artist so have to promote my craft.
Incredibly informative. Thank you for this information. I’ve had my vintage Burberry “muffler” scarf from 1999. And I still wear it every season. Have never needed to change it, as it is still with me, never an issue. However it does smell it’s age. Even after dry cleaning. Mostly just stagnant, or dusty. It is still the best piece of clothing I have ever purchased. Would like to get the large Burberry Check scarf. Charcoal grey with red pop for contrast
We were having a talk at work today about the difference between good products and products that are host expensive and bought as a status symbol. I recommended my coworkers check out this channel to see the difference between the two.
8 years ago I bought the last and only luxury scarf I have left: a natural gray/forest italian cashmere from the venerable Brunello Cucinelli. It’s still awesome to this very day. I picked it up from a Cucinelli Outlet store for $180, a bargain IMHO
I still love my LV reverse monogram *amzaccs* clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic.
Begg&Co named the best manufacturer of scarves in the world from Simon Crompton. Mr Crompton included them in his book 'The Finest Mesnwear in the World'.
Top tip - the check Burberry scarves are made by Johnstons. Johnstons sell direct. UK price of a scarf? £115, compared to £370 for the Burberry. Okay, you can't get the "Burberry check", but the Johnstons scarves have the advantage that they don't suffer from the "Burberry image issue", a.k.a "The Chav Effect".
Very impressive display of industry knowledge! This will be known as the chimney video. There is just noone on the internet who does anything near SRS. A big thank you to the master. I bow to thee.
I'm very impressed with the overcoat combination with the scarf you're wearing. Whenever I see the Burberry scarf it screams gaudy and ostentatious. You managed to pull it off as much. I used to think nobody could pull off a fedora until I saw these videos.
Eye Heart Sushi reminds me of the fact Burberry was charging a similar price for a long knitted scarf in 2017. I took a look at it, and was able to make a knitting pattern similar to the scarf. I am also being reminded of how an employee complimented my long, colorful scarf one day. It was a handmade Doctor Who scarf I was wearing:
@@stevenabosh8807 A scarf retains a practical use and will likely continue to do so in cold weather. Not every jacket does the job well because it might not have a high enough "collar" that extends around your neck. For those jackets that simply don't, you use a scarf. I reckon in some or many situations, a scarf is a better complementary option because having that bigger collar on jackets could be annoying or hindering at times. What if it gets somewhat warmer depending on the environment? A scarf, you can then take off. Also, I reckon some do not wear jackets but coats or such instead. And I don't recall coats with a huge standard high collar that would then do the job well functionally - while it might look off in a fashion or style sense. As we can see with both examples, a scarf is useful.
People who made their opinion about Burberry by what they see on the site should visit a store, still an experience in itself. Also the quality is second to none of you ask me. I have the oversize check archive beige longer version of the scarf in cashmere and i absolutely love it on colder days.
What is the point in spending that much on cashmere when barbour do a lambs wool/cashmere for around £40? I understand this channel isn’t for cheap tatty items but honestly the Barbour scarfs are just as good and look even better imo.
Because it is a series on iconic items that are expensive. Not many people wonder if a $40 scarf is worth it or not and Barbour is known for their jackets, which we covered, not for their scarves
I always thought loro piana produced their cashmere somewhere in the middle east because of the dunes you always see on their homepage, but turns out it's in china and mongolia aswell. Guess raphael was right once again
Not necessarily annoying. In my opinion, it introduces the younger crowd (me 😂) yet still stays somewhat functional for all ages. They haven’t changed a lot yet compared to the next season. I’ve seen it through my stylist and it is quite different and goes far away from what Burberry is known for.
Yes. I just think that classic style marks should remain in their branch and street wear designers/marks should make their thing. Maybe in some cases, the combination of those two views on style can make something interesting looking. But I would say this doesn’t happen very often and neither classic style nor street wear marks should sacrifice their main products to look “younger” or more “elegant and classic”.
Do you think that a classic Burberry polo would be a good investment? I got $500 in Christmas money, so do you have any suggestions in Burberry wear? Also, do you think I should save up for a trench coat instead?🧥🧥
This is the kind of thing I would totally get at thrift store price, but otherwise it just seems like nothing other than a "yes, I have tons of money" statement piece, like with the Louis Vuitton bag. There's a kind of store here called "European clothing" which is basically 2nd hand/off-season clothing from abroad and I've actually got a couple of excellent pieces, once with a Belstaff for $5 and a second time with a Burberry women's coat for$25. It was my first time even seeing the brands, and for both, I was actually baffled at the retail cost once I looked them up.
I like the pattern. In my opinion the length is also fine. I don’t like a scarf dangling all the way to my waist area. However, $470 is waaaaaaaay to much for a scarf. I don’t care what it is made of and where it has been made. It’s simply too much, except you really dig this particular scarf
That was some great sleuthing finding out where the scarf was made! A very interesting video. I agree with the problem of the length of the Burberry scarf! Very few scarves are that short and limiting. It's almost as if they are cheaping out on the length just because their brand name is iconic and people will pay the big price for the name. No matter how useless the scarf will become.
I've enjoyed your video interviews in the past. I think it would be cool to see that on the channel again, with the addition of your cohorts, Kyle and Preston. It'd be like one of those radio shows, with different folks chiming in, creating conversation regarding the major themes spoken about amongst the practitioners of modern gentlemenship. Nah, but all your videos are dope.
I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Whenever I see someone wearing this scarf I think "Oh, you're a tourist and you're wearing that particular pattern because someone told you to wear it."
@@Cutesy_Time_is_Over I guess you never got lucky in a thrift store. There are a lot of high end items to be found in thrift stores and charity shops, but you need to know what youre doing.
@@Cutesy_Time_is_Over stuff like that does happen occasionally - usually the people that buy these are wealthy, some extremely so, in the UK "old money" people often clear out their stuff to charities simply because it's "the done thing" and when they pass away their family usually might keep a few momento items then sell off the rest in bulk. In fact my main source of vintage clothes specialises in sourcing from these manor house "garage sales" around the west of Britain. Personally I've picked up a very rare, and collectable, Billingham "Kodak UK" portfolio bag at the Red Cross op shop in Brecon (Wales) for 5 UKP (value is in the several hundreds of UK pounds) and a Campbell's of Beauly deer stalker hat for 2 pounds in an Edinburgh op shop (they cost about 45 UKP new) the first was in "very good" condition and the later was pretty much "as new" ( so "as new" that side by side with the one I purchased from Campbells when in Beauly a few years ago... they look like they had been purchased new together)
It’s actually fairly common. If you go to thrift stores often enough you can find high end items and such there. I have found 3 authentic Burberry scarves, or they were as close as you can get to an original.
Thank you a lot . You really changed the way i look and the way i think . I always knew that this is the style i am attracted two . But never knew about the way how to apply . Can you make a video to help us what we should wear on our graduation ?
There seems to be a trend of moving toward larger checks in patterns. Personally I find larger checks looking better than the small checks. Small checks can be a bit dizzy and too loud sometimes.
I am looking at buying a burberry cap. Is the quality worth it or is it just for the brand? I heard gucci caps are very bad and cheap in terms of material so i wanted to know about burberry
My favourite make of scarf is aquascutum brand in its classic house check. This is available in wool or cashmere. Purchased the cashmere one for my girlfriend and see loves it.
Thanks for the video. Could you please create a video for Corduroy suit? Like should we wear it in wedding or night parties? Is it still in style? And if yes, then how should we style it? What kind of shirts, shoes and if there is any Tie option, we should use with Corduroy suit?
danyal manouchehri they are sales that happen at people’s homes. Usually wealthy people moving, divorce or die and everything in the house or most of the items they owned are for sale. Sale of the estate, estate sale.
I understand the need to attract the younger consumer and Burberry going that route. But I feel the brand has become severely gaudy. On a side note, the last item that really caught my interest was a wool knitted scarf that Matt Smith wore for their holiday campaign in 2017 (I'm surprised a Tom Baker is cool meme wasn't made.) After looking at the design, I am seriously considering making it based out of images.
Thanks for the inspiration in all your videos as always! As someone entering his 30's soon been trying to upgrade my wardrobe slowly to more elegant and sophisticated clothing while trying to move on from certain garments I wore in college. Living in AZ are there any functional or appropriate sport jackets you'd recommend? maybe ones I can wear during Winter since I've never seen Seersucker or Linen Jackets for when it's hot here as far as jackets go or perhaps just haven't looked hard enough for them. Right now I mostly wear a polo and shorts when truly hot outside.Anyone can chime in if they want..
Hi there - could you make a video regarding scarfs - not to outside, but more like how to use it like Robert Downey Junior does in the first dinner scene in the first sherlock Holmens movie
I have a couple of those Burberry's scarf and are very high quality and simply an icon, and i can mix and match with many styles , casual, elegant...of course you pay a lot, but who care...is like for any other brand, LV, Hermes, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Rolex, Prada, Merceds Benz, .....I can write for one day long..is the market so! even savil raw tailor, they rise their price 3 times more than a normal common tailor...but they are savile raw tailor. and very exclusive, with heritage, experience, so they are absolutely right in doing this. if you can afford it and you like it! you buy it! simple.! Kind Regard
I chose the route of variety rather than quality in this case. I have various colors and fabrics depending on color matching or practicality. Some scarves will have a synthetic blend which hold up better to abuse (spilled drinks, runny nose etc..) while others can be matched with my other garments. I have alpaca, cashmere and merino wool scarves. Trust me, I do have champagne taste but I have a finite budget. And in this case I put it towards shoes, sport coats, shirts, vests, suspenders and pocket squares.
Very interesting! Thank you! I would gladly order from Fort Belvedere, not only scarves, but living in Europe I try to order from firms under european jurisdiction, it is also more sustainable. When you have some kind of retailer in Europe, I will be one of the first customers.
Why is it more sustainable? We looked into selling directly from a European warehouse. If would be more wasteful and at the end of the day the customer would pay more...
@@gentlemansgazette Because without the transport between the U.S and Europe there are less greenhouse gases released. When you produce in Europe you shouldn't have to ship to the U.S. and back to the individual customer. Of course this can only be attributed to your products from Europe. It is the role of governments to drive that transition, but maybe there are already some ways to contribute. Thank you.
This is one of the few designer products that I have mixed feelings on. Because it is essentially the benchmark to what people will typically compared another scarf to.
Question: did the scarf come in a Burberry box or little circle box from bloomingdales? I got mine at Neiman marcus and it came in a bag 😒. I hate neiman Marcus
I love my Burberry trench coats, definitely worth it. As for a scar I’m pretty sure it’s not worth it (correction it’s better quality than I thought it would be ) so maybe it’s worth it
man I bought one (similar to the Archive Beige... slightly lighter from fading) through my regular vintage clothing source for $50AUD ($35 USD) almost flawless despite being vintage (the vintage dealer also acquired a very large collection of other "three B's" stuff from the same estate - Burberry, Barbour and, Belstaff but most of it was the wrong size and/or had been worn almost to death so apart from a beat up Barbour waxed gilet for $15 the scarf was the only thing that opened my wallet)
hello raphael , I want to know a little bit more about cashmere from you . Recently , I have fallen in love with cashmere turtleneck sweaters . But . here comes the million dollar question . - ARE CASHMERE SWEATERS MACHINE WASHABLE ? please answer . I am not gonna buy my first one until I get opinion from an expert like you . Thanks !
I am not sure what you mean. I have an original vintage scarf that says Burberry's of London .. are you saying that ever since they changed back to Burburry in 1988 nothing has been the same?
I understand that you have your own company and that you are promoting it, and you should since you believe in it's quality. But, I think that making a video of "brand item - is it worth it" and comparing it to your own company's item makes the video biased. Nevertheless, it's good information and always a pleasure to watch your videos.
I agree. But, I also think it provides a good point of comparison. As long as he just states facts about them, and makes clear what is opinion. Which I think he does very well. Then I don’t believe it to be biased.
Google: Baige Plaid, or Beige Check. Also search on eBay. You can find great look alikes. Hockerty custom suits also has an optional lining that looks like the Antique Beige Plaid. I found some great printed leather wallets same (made in China) under $12.

Their new styles are great for circus clowns. What a shame, they used to make good stuff.
I feel that Burberry went the gawdy hypebeast route.
Yeah, the whole "edgy" feel is getting old.
Their Prorsum line has always been for clowns since the middle ages
They still carry the classics though. If they don’t do the “fashion” stuff, the brand wouldn’t have survived in today’s market.

There seems to be a trend of moving toward larger checks in patterns. Personally I find larger checks looking better than the small checks. Small checks can be a bit dizzy and too loud sometimes.
Smaller cheques are more likely to be cashed so bite me
Loud?
Lol...o k
I am looking at buying a burberry cap. Is the quality worth it or is it just for the brand? I heard gucci caps are very bad and cheap in terms of material so i wanted to know about burberry
My favourite make of scarf is aquascutum brand in its classic house check. This is available in wool or cashmere. Purchased the cashmere one for my girlfriend and see loves it.
Is It Worth It is my favourite series on this channel.
You are my favourite man on youtube.
Grebe I think I love u
@@stevenabosh8807 We all love each other in this comunity.
Greve Johan Johansen Exactly, except for the peasants, they deserve to burn
@@stevenabosh8807 Yes only people with neckwear allowed.
I have a Norse Projects x Johnstons of Elgin scarf. 100% Lambswool, Melange grey. I love it. Might get a cashmere scarf some day.
Thanks for the video.
Could you please create a video for Corduroy suit? Like should we wear it in wedding or night parties? Is it still in style? And if yes, then how should we style it? What kind of shirts, shoes and if there is any Tie option, we should use with Corduroy suit?
you can get them pretty cheap second hand on grailed for around $50-100
I’ve found two at Estate sales, they’re worth it if you find them second hand and in good condition!
Hi, what are estate sales?
@@danyalmanouchehri5360 it is called goodwill.
@@aljohnson6495 what do you mean?
danyal manouchehri they are sales that happen at people’s homes. Usually wealthy people moving, divorce or die and everything in the house or most of the items they owned are for sale. Sale of the estate, estate sale.
GOODWILL
Very helpful video. Thank you
Maybe mention that you own the fort brand-I know this, but some people watching may not.
Playing Arc yeah, the lack of disclosure is a little troubling.
I brought a scarf made in Scotland in a upscale dept store with no brand name. I wonder if it was made by the same factory that makes Burberry scarfs.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman brought me here.
Like many luxury brands they’re overpriced and showy. I’d much rather be subtle and not have logos plastered everywhere.
it just show that no sense of understand product, pricing nor good taste..... just sad for those people....
Or you can go to the Johnstons of Elgin website and buy a scarf directly from them. For half the price.
Thank you for this video it was very informative
Hi there - could you make a video regarding scarfs - not to outside, but more like how to use it like Robert Downey Junior does in the first dinner scene in the first sherlock Holmens movie
I have a couple of those Burberry's scarf and are very high quality and simply an icon, and i can mix and match with many styles , casual, elegant...of course you pay a lot, but who care...is like for any other brand, LV, Hermes, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Rolex, Prada, Merceds Benz, .....I can write for one day long..is the market so! even savil raw tailor, they rise their price 3 times more than a normal common tailor...but they are savile raw tailor. and very exclusive, with heritage, experience, so they are absolutely right in doing this. if you can afford it and you like it! you buy it! simple.! Kind Regard
Nice scarf, but those Belvedere Gloves though.... I’m about to lose my Coach gloves on purpose....
9:38 love the fur coat. is it in your opinion ok to wear real fur these days? greetigs from germany
He has two fur coats, both vintage probably from the 40s or 50s.
Vintage? I absolutely think so! New ones? No
@@dandiehm8414 Because newer fur coats purchases mean that you are promoting and funding the current fur trade.
No, everyone will assume you sexually assaulted the animal whose fur you wore because of the MeToo movement!

If you want a classic style wool scarf with a check/ tartan, Barbour will do just fine.
Can you do a video on is a turnball and asser shirt worth it?
Check out mister Hugo Jacomet's opinion about it at his blog Parisian Gentleman and at his RUclips channel Sartorial Talks.
Talking about cashmere, Raphael, what do you think about Falconeri?
an itchy scarf can give u character and improve your poster ..it might also be warmer in colder temps ..
I have one with the rainbow on it. Love it
Do you guys have an alpaca scarf / sweater video?
I like the Fort Belvedere scarves better! 👍 they’re longer!! What do you think of missoni scarves?
I don't like long things, except for DICKS. I eat those for brunch bruh!
Thank you.
Great video. Definitely not worth it for me. Very interesting seeing this thorough research!
This is one of the few designer products that I have mixed feelings on. Because it is essentially the benchmark to what people will typically compared another scarf to.
I dig you guy's thank youzzz 😁👈🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I dig you!
Thanks !
Any chance of a vid on oxblood/burgundy shoes/boots?
Would you do a comparison between begg & Co scarf and the burberry scarf? I think burberry may have a worse product.
3:30 this is why we pretend they're still called Burberrys and can only be found on ebay.
I am not sure what you mean. I have an original vintage scarf that says Burberry's of London .. are you saying that ever since they changed back to Burburry in 1988 nothing has been the same?
Kurze Frage:
10:43 not forgetting the umbrellas.
Could you please do a review of Eric Bompard cashmere items?
can you make a video comparing Brook Brothers with Indochino ? And how each one differ from the other.
The Large 200cm scarf is $700+ here in Canada.
Raphael! How can I avoid the fluffs and lints on cashmere clothes. I have them on cashmere scarves as well as on cashmere pullovers around the armpits.. would be happy to get some professional advices! Vielen Dank und alles Gute für das neue Jahr 2020, Raphael!
