    I actually purchased a pair of Cariuma after watching your previous video. I have a wide toe box and it is basically impossible for me to find skate shoes that work for my feet. It did take a few wears to break my shoes in at first, I had a little pinching on my pinky toe edge, but now I love them. I like their aesthetic and appreciate a number of things that the company takes into account that you mentioned in the video. Thanks for your content, regular viewer!

    I don't get the hate on Cariumas. They're sustainably and ethically produced and I think also vagan. Just because they're not a "core" skate brand.
    I mean take for example Nike they're anything but a "core" skate brand and I don't hear people hating on them. All though it would make much more sense to hate them because Nike doesn't give a dang about sustainability or ethical production and still I see most people skating in them.
    So I'd much rather skate a Cariuma wich I know what I'm getting and is working for my type of skating. Plus they're durable. I had my pair for Idk how long and I'm just now considering getting a new pair.

    I personally might have fallen in love with the Last Resort VM002 Suede Los. I got a pair last week. The PERFECT fit for me and on top of this they are incredibly comfortable and cushioned in all the right places. I’ve also never worn a shoe that felt as immediately broken in out of the box.
    As for Cariuma I like the logo personally. Not really interested in getting a pair though. Not even sure I’ve seen any here in Europe.
    Where Vans are concerned I always like the style of them but me and Vans have ourselves a pinky toe pinch problem. Still got a lot of Vans though.

    I've been buying vans half cabs. I don't like how high top shoes feel, so I decided on half cabs and went through 2 pair. They're pretty stiff at first, but even when you break them in, they still feel kinda stiff. The only reason I bought a second pair is bc it fit my foot snug but not tight to the point of being uncomfortable at all. It was like a soft snug feeling. One thing I hate about them, is there's no lace loop in the tongue, and the tongue keeps going to the way side. I was considering getting cariuma shoes, but I'm always weird about spending money on something new and not liking it. I heard from others just like you said, that they're nice for wide feet, which I have. I'll probably end up getting a pair. Also, I wouldn't want a flashy pair of skate shoes, bc I wouldn't want to skate them lol. Thanks for the review.

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  2 года назад +2

      I actually don't know if these have a lace loop for the tongue...but, I've never had the tongue slip to the side either to notice. And I totally get you with the money thing. Having wide feet, buying expensive shoes that don't fit afterwards is so disappointing. If you don't need shoes right now, I'd stay on the lookout for a discount. When Cariuma does sponsor videos, there is typically at 15% off coupon. That's actually what I used to get this first pair haha Glad you liked the review though! :D If you get them, I hope they're comfortable!

    it seems to be much less common, but i think black shoe goo is better than clear. idk if it's my imagination, but it seems to stay stuck better for longer, be more flexible, and more abrasion resistant. i like to put a thin coating in high wear areas before i get a hole, so more for prevention than solution.

    Good video. Very interesting because I saw your first video about them. I have to agree, they are great for wider feet! Many skateshoes are really tight ( my first skateshoes were etnies...they were good but soooo tight). Selling single shoes is amazing and also the designs are nice. The reason I sold mine second hand was the size. I have an intermediate size and cariuna only has full sizes so I took the too smaller ones. My big toe is kind of chubby and stood out ( under the fabric). I ended crushing my toe(nail) when I fell. its not cariumas fault. They make a solid shoe. Yes the air sole makes squishy sounds. But the shoe is robust and also minimalistic (had the same ones like you just in black). Padding is only around the heel. Now I have adidas busenitz and they are good too. More soft and comfy. I literally wait for the next hole in the sole😆this happens so fastly

  • @jamesfru118
    @jamesfru118 2 года назад +1

    one thing to help avoid ripping holes in the bottom of your shoes is to stop shuffling you're foot around as much on the griptape. Learning to place your feet more thoughtfully not only makes skating feel more controlled but makes your shoes last longer! I find people shuffle most when going to do kickflips but shuffling can occure on all tricks. Instead try and place your feet straight into the correct position or try and stick to no more than 2 shuffles. You will notice wathcing pros how everyone has there own way of setting up, its all apart of developing your own style!!!

  • @Si74l0rd
    @Si74l0rd 2 года назад +1

    I wish you'd been skating in the late 90's, early 2000's. Shoes were better then IMHO. They were far more optimised and more thought went into them, especially with regards to the longevity of the upper. Although a lot of them claim to have input from the skaters, none seem to be anything more than eighties tennis shoes in varying styles. Most skate shoes twenty years had a wear panel for the kickflip area which went a long way to making the uppers last, and the Brad Staba model from Savier had Kevlar uppers with interfuse technology, and it was always the soles or airbags on those that went first. Made them worth the extra cost when they last considerably longer.
    I shop around for nineties shoes that are in still skateable condition, the soles tend to be a bit hard, but they give me longer between shoes than buying new. And I get to still wear my two favourite brands, Circa and Savier ;D
    I got a barely worn pair of Circa CX201's last week that needed a little glue where the original glue had perished and let go, but they were in almost perfect condition apart from that, and they were thirty quid (40 USD-ish). So half to a third of the price of a pair of Nike SB. My problem with Nike is when they separated from Savier, they stopped bothering making shoes optimised for skating, they're just basic Nike tennis shoes. I've got a couple pairs, and they're ok, but they're nothing special. There are no special shoes on the market anymore, but they charge almost as much as those that were super optimised back in the day. Nike could make a much more optimised shoe with longevity features, but it's not in their interest. So I disagree that either Nike or Cariuma have skaters best interests at heart, they have profit at heart. Nothing more.
    Core brands back in the day cared about both, and usually erred too much on the side of caring about the shoes over the money side, which sadly is why they're no longer here as the corporate brands ate at the market share they needed to survive. Circa do still make one model of shoe though, and while it's no CM902, the AL50 isn't an awful shoe, and they last quite well.
    I just prefer the look, style and features of the nineties shoes. So as long as they're still being put on the market I'll wear them. Then I guess I'll have no option but to buy Nike SB.

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  2 года назад +1

      Haha little me early 2000's did have a pair of DCs because I wanted to skate but couldn't. A bright blue pair. But, that's really too bad. Interesting to hear your perspective as someone who has been skating so long to have seen those changes.
      And I wouldn't disagreeing with that. I don't think Nike or Cariuma just purely love skateboarding. But, they do support it in paying skaters, sponsoring events etc.. That's what I mean by support. Business is run by the bottom line. And money/marketing often wins. Cariuma is a great example of the marketing side. Nike is a good example of the money side.
      I hope you can keep getting the shoes you like. Sick you get buy the older pairs 💪 And hopefully some brands will start pushing boundaries again.

    • @Si74l0rd
      @Si74l0rd 2 года назад +1

      @@SarahParkMatott Yeah, it's a shame that Nike have the technology, but not the desire to push the boundaries of what's possible the way they did when they partnered with Savier.
      What I'd really like to see is Savier take their interfuse technology to a different backer, and relaunch their brand. They don't really need Nike's materials division the way they did twenty years ago. And that would push everyone else to improve their shoes to keep market share. That's the only way Nike will ever start making shoes that really appeal to skaters, rather than making the same sports shoe as usual but slapping a SB label on it.
      There was a reason we used to buy skater owned brands, people have forgotten what it's like to have to have that strong sense of identity, as skate culture and apparel has been subsumed into the mainstream. It was always about form and function with core brands, but there are few of them left now, and almost none in the shoe game. No-one can launch a company and succeed without the kind of money Cariuma throws around, and I don't like the way they target children and the uninformed by blanketing the social media side of the skateboard scene.
      Horses for courses, we all like what we like, but I liked it better when there was real choice, rather than just walk into a shoe shop and buy a generic sports shoe that's labelled as a skate shoe, and they get away with it because no-one knows any different.
      Equipment is one of the things that holds athletes back from the best performance, it's crazy that there are a bunch of bespoke impact absorbing after market insoles, because the shoes aren't made to actually be skated by anyone other than average kids. For the upper to wear out, when it's expected that there will be wear in certain spots. They're just selling shoes, not skate shoes, but they've convinced the youth that they are. I just find it all a bit in bad taste. I dislike manipulation and dishonesty and it's setting both the shoe game, and skating, back. I want to see it move forward, instead.
      Realistically those days are probably gone, the way information is presented in this day and age is different and marketing rarely has anything to do with the truth, and I don't really see how any core company can compete in that sort of environment, getting to the target audience when the traditional online spaces like The Berrics that had a strong identity with skaters old and new, now peddle tat instead, and have been abandoned by all but the kids.
      No-one will ever trust Steve Berra or the Berrics again after the Cariuma goings on. But Instagram and social media doesn't reach core skaters the same way skate videos and magazines, and later, internet forums, did. Nowadays you just launch your brand at the world and saturate every media in the hope you hit some of your target demographic. There has to be some other way, where we can support small and medium businesses without being muscled out by corporations pissing in our pool.

I think my current skill set and style don't really "need" the benefits of one over the other yet. I wanted to try the es accel slims, but couldn't get my size when I was looking.

      @@SarahParkMatott thin vulcs and primos are u from a different planet of some sort? if i wore vulcs and landed primo that would me done for the week hahaha. even when i had red white chuck taylors mate i could feel stones i didnt like it. i had a sick white canvas ROUTEONE store vans once or it might of been rollersnakes but it was one of the stores and they were sick but it being canvas isnt a good material for grip or durability. i see u like the old skool vibe and its its cool i like it but im more street to be honest i love gaps and drops and banks. they are always making new Es accel slims and thats a good thing they kept a style silhouette because its a good shoe skated by many. they should do custom accel slims by now just like nike do. im gonna watch ur other videos i hope u dont mind and sorry i will be commenting on them too. take care have a good day and be safe skating. x

    i don't like vulc soles as much as cup soles, they wear too fast. i especially didn't like the vans i'd had with vulc soles. i like vans generally and would be willing to try them again, but they'd prob be a cup sole or maybe half cabs. one of my favorite skate shoes of all time were vans 'trench' from 1996ish. i don't mind the cariuma logo so much, it kind of reminds me of the crossed wings patch from attack on titan. but it is rather loud and conspicuous, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to make it the same color as the upper on some shoes. i'm not really a fan of heavy-handed marketing in general, and i can see where some of the criticisms i've heard are valid. but hate is a bit strong, and for someone to unsubscribe from your channel or go as far as to say something to someone in person for wearing them seems pretty irrational to say the least. soletech is probably my favorite (etnies, e's, emerica) been around 35ish years, skater owned, excellent product. dc is great too. globe is another. i've had adidas and new balance shoes before, but not skate shoes and i would like to try their skate shoes. the adidas busenitz looks decent and want to try the nb westgates. not a fan of nike, never owned their shoes or particularly wanted to. keep doing what you're doing :) it's been real nice the last few days here, coastal mid-atlantic, so i've been skating. rusty but i'm getting there.

      Yeah I only wear cup sole shoes. I don't like the flatness of feel with the vulcanised styles. They all feel like Converse, which is fine if that's what I was after for skating, but it isn't. After skating for so long in a certain style of shoe I don't like the feeling of the board through the shoe with other types. I feel cup soles last longer too as a general rule.

    • @SarahParkMatott

      I have heard that vulc soles wear faster. And actually, I was really interested in trying e's. The accel is such a slick looking shoe, which is why I was hoping the local shop would have a pair from that brand I could try on.
      I can also see where people could be upset with Cariuma. As purchasers, our decisions are based on complex factors. But, I can't understand going out of your way to hate on the person wearing them.
      I'm a little envious you've been able to try so many brands and shoes. Something you get to do while the skate years pile up. I'm excited for when I'll be able to compare the brands like that. Thanks for sharing Diplenski :D It's been really nice here too! So, I'm trying to skate it up the best I can! Hope you can shake off the rust and have fun 💪

      @@SarahParkMatott I get why people hate on them, but education is more lacking than ever as to what is good, because so many of the shoe reviews are done by paid shills. I appreciate that's not the case here, but they have such a bad reputation at this point the hate spills over to everyone I guess.
      I think the whole shoe game needs a really big mix up. We need a modular system where you can pick and choose features you want. So you can get everything you need from one shoe. Longevity, comfort, fit, stability, support and looks. Like you buy a sock liner then put it on and put your foot in a machine that takes your order and moulds it around your liner-ed foot, to produce the perfect shoe for all your needs. Surely we've come that far technologically?!

    • @SarahParkMatott
      @SarahParkMatott  2 года назад +1

      @@Si74l0rd technology-wise, I bet that’d be possible. Profits wise-unless you pay a pretty penny, we are probably pretty far. But, it would be nice to have more diverse shapes, like for wider feet and such instead if making us all force our feet into the same shoes.

    • @mikehulsebus
      @mikehulsebus 2 года назад

      @@Si74l0rd maybe a modular system would also be more repairable too. this is a bit off topic, but my main shoes (boots actually) always have to be replaced when i eventually wear through the sole. I tried to see if they could be re-soled but when I took them somewhere, they said that the way that the press the soles now doesn't make it possible to re-sole them.
      Back on topic though. that rounded wear pattern on the shoes in the video is really encouraging to see. So many of my dress shoes that I buy have to be thrown out when the sole eventually separates from the shoe, so if these are somehow brought together in a different way, that's encouraging for overall longevity.
      I've seen ads on instagram for insoles. where they mail you a mold that you step in and mail back. Maybe someone can then extend that out to shoes.

    You should really consider getting affiliate links so you can get something back for your channel.
    I'm looking to get these shoes thanks to you, and it would be nice if you could get a little something ($) since you're the reason I found out about these.
    -
    I know not having affiliates / sponsors gives your reviews more legitimacy, but in the end someone is going to make money off this; may as well include you.
    -
    You really need to have merchandise for your channel 🙂 🛹
    Something as simple as (Sarah Park-Matott 🛹) would be cool. I'd wear it in support.
    -
    Regarding brands getting into skating and the backlash -
    The same people criticizing Cariuma likely have worn Vans, Nike, Adidas, NewBalance, etc... all mom and pop shops.
    Vans long ago started making their shoes abroad to cut down on costs, while increasing their prices, and increasing their profit. Their quality didn't go up because of that...
    Apparently, those companies are more OG skateboard - not sellouts.
    -
    Anyhow, I really don't care what other people think (assuming I'm not doing anything wrong, nor harming anyone).
    The skate community, which you would think would be open and less judgemental within "their own (skaters)", can be pretty toxic, gatekeep-ish, elitist-like, and bully-like.
    I used to skate in the late 80's, and that was the case then as well.
    -
    Glad to hear you walked into the skate shop wearing your Cariuma.
    I'll do the same.
    All the best... !!! Happy skating!

      ah really appreciate all that and the willingness to support! 😃Unless it's sold through amazon, most skate gear doesn't have affiliate programs that I've seen. But, I don't mind. I typically just review stuff I use myself because I have it. And it's why I have my patreon account. Thanks to that I've been able to invest a lot back into this channel. Super grateful🙏
