"I've never even heard him meow" This made me laugh, because I have the most dramatic kitten who meows like he's dying while throwing himself on the floor just for attention.
okay but "god has never warmed a bed, but I sure have" is ICONIC, truly incredible, best line i've ever heard out loud, I'm still laughing about it. also that doesn't sound like a romance book at all to me? just like general christian lit. loved this whole video, but that line was so unexpected and hilarious.
I have a lecturer in my Biology degree who is keep telling us to read this book. I might just show him the clip of Kayla throwing it off the hot water balloon to show him my opinion of the matter.
I haven't watched the video yet, so this may be on this list, but I would love for you to do a video where you read books blurbed by your favorite author or read their favorite books! I'd love to see how their reading tastes go with their writing!! Much love and hope you're well :)
sorry, but who the HELL is calling you "overhyped"- I just feel like this is objectively not true? You put out high quality, consistent, and very, very creative concepts which is barely an opinion......I just.....what?
I used to really not like her... for like no reason. I have no idea where the judgement came from but somewhere in my mind I had decided that Kayla wasn’t it. But then I gave her content a chance and she proved me wrong and even blew me away. So I think the people who are calling her overhyped are the people like I used to be who just have their head in their ass 😅
"She said something about her body opening up like a flower... and it frightened me." oh my god I'm cracking up. I hate when women are written to say stuff like that, like how many women actually think that?! I can be real sentimental and gushy towards my partner, but I've never felt like a flower omg
Concept #4 is my absolute favorite. It’s so cute and it would be a great way to say thanks for giving you acknowledgment by giving them acknowledgment. I don’t see it as arrogant, I see it as community. Sometimes in families and communities you won’t like everyone and you just need to get the eff over it. If they don’t want to watch the content, they can continue to skip it. You don’t have to personally curate RUclips for them! If it makes you happy, if it makes someone else happy, if it honors someone, or gives them that same feeling you got when they did it for you, do it! You can’t make everyone happy, but if you make one person smile you’ve made an impact.
YES! About the Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance book. I have a professor who raves about the book and she is totally the kind of person who would say "well you didn't understand it" but she'd be so rude about it!
Oh my gosh 😍🤯 that’s so cool haha I didn’t realize you were trying to follow my TBR that month lmaoo I’m sorry I made it so difficult for you 🤣🤣 and also I’m glad you enjoyed The Maidens!! I feel like I’ve been second guessing how much I loved it because I feel like everyone else seems to be strongly disliking it 🤣 glad to know I’m not alone in enjoying it! I’m hoping to finally get to House of Leaves this month! Because I know it’s one of your faves it has me extra excited for it 🤗
So funny when you talk about reading books that took place where you live, that is pretty much any Stephen king book for me since I live in Maine and near the area he usually describes as near Derry maine.
Love these videos Kayla! Also I suspected it before with your full-time job/youtuber/wife/mom life that your schedule was hectic, but 4 or 4.5 hours is crazy. I'm glad you're getting better sleep nowadays and hope you don't give up precious sleep because you feel like you aren't being "productive" enough. I hope you take care of yourself ❤
I love that you make content like this. I could N E V E R. You are iconic. Damn Kayla. How do you stick with a video idea for this long? I have no clue. Good for you girl. I admire you
It's interesting that you mentioned a few times that you've gotten 'Truly Devious' suggested to you, because as someone who's read the whole series (and has liked each one more than the last) but has also followed you for a long time, it's a book I would have told you to ABSOLUTELY not waste your time on. It's also surprising that book made it on the list to begin with, because while I like the characters and the second and third book, I wouldn't consider this book "had me on the edge of my seat" by any means. I definitely agree with your four modifications to the list though!! HBD is my favorite Sager book, and I'm so excited to finally try No Exit and They Never learn this month I've heard nothing but good things!!
I've been re-watching your old videos and somehow everytime I think I wonder when the next video like this one will be out you post one. 😂✨ Love hanging out with you! 🌈
truly love seeing videos like this!! i‘m not a content creator but it is somehow very comforting to see that it’s normal/ not s fail when you don’t finish something you started🤍 truly truly love your concepts!!
For ages I kept track of books mentioned in other books. I was going to read them all . . . but I am sure I'll never live long enough. Two books that yielded huge lists of books were The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise (a middle grade book) and also The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Sort of the same concept as your #2 video, but these ones were actually all real books. It could be a never-ending pursuit ... this book references this next book, which references this next book ... and on and on.
🤷♀️ I'd love to watch the one where you read favourite books of people who have read your favourite books. Are there people that think you're overhyped? I've never seen any comments saying that.
I find it so interesting that you enjoyed reading about a book in your town because I had to put down a book I was reading because it was set in my hometown and I freaked me out
"and she said something about her body ~opening up like a flower~" wow, bonus Handmaid's Tale vibes on top of it all 👀 is this set in the Okanagan or The Red Center, I'm scared akjhljasdf
This video(mainly the 3rd video concept) reminded me that I need to get through all of my fiancé's cousin's books as her 3rd came out recently and that this month would be great because her books are all thrillers. I started her first book(The Lost Night) when we had first started dating and his cousin came here for a book signing, but I felt that it was too "prosey"/wordy for me. I'm hoping I am able to get through all 3 of them this month now, though.
I see on your tbr shelf in the background “Hollow Kingdom” and omg! I read it last year and thought it was *so* you! From the POV of a Crow, had me laughing out loud, super strange. You have to read it! The sequel just came out! (I may have already left a comment on a diff vid recommending it to you 😂)
I fully relate to working full-time and also keeping up a youtube channel. I definitely squish it into my after hours of work, but it's so nice on a weekend to just dip in and out when I feel like it. Unemployment would scare/intimidate me but getting into a routine would help! Best of luck. ^__^
This video was a hoot. So many wonderful little moments… “I’ve never even heard him meow” 😂💜 thanks for sharing another glimpse of you and your life with us!
Omg I love your reactions throughout this video! I love your videos so much. You are my favourite booktuber. And I adore your video ideas. Please keep doing that!
Does anyone know what she means when she says the narrator of Rebecca does have a name? I was looking for it because I remembered Kayla mentioning it was only mentioned once, and I didn't see it anywhere.
I've never managed to finish Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I've read 3/4 of it twice and lost the book each time. - For me that book was mostly a criticism of valuing quantity over quality - it was about the need to change the way our world works and how we work to make sure to produce things of value. But it's years since I read it. And after this review I'm thinking I've misremembered it completely.
About Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance; You should have just read The Scarlet Letter. It's shorter and you would have had a much better time with it, even if you ended up hating it as well. :)
Oooh! I just read Ace of Spades!! I gave it like a high 3.5. Maybe a 3.75. Oh my god look at the book page on Goodreads for it, too. The author says in one of the questions the setting is supposed to be vague but the book says multiple times it's in America??
These “failed” video vlogs have been some of my favorite from you! I love the little peek behind the curtain. Also a little embarrassed that you probably watched my vlog of reading your recommendation lol!
Oh my god! I'm so glad you like Donnie Darko, it's my favorite movie. They do discuss one real book (well, technically short story), which is The Destructors by Graham Greene, which the PTO argues about at the school assembly lol
I think the Truly Devious series gets worse, so don't worry about not continuing 😂 I love all these concepts! Was not expecting my face to pop up there.
Now I want Kayla to read an Amish book. Romance or otherwise. 😂 Anna’s Secret just sounded bad, but I know not all Christian fiction is bad but there quite a bit of bad ones out there, for sure.
It's real sweet to see you and Robbie reading to or with Liam together, even though he's not a little kid anymore. I wish my parents did the same, I was never read to.
Will you be doing a Goodreads challenge again this year? Reading all the books on a list for best book in a particular category? I love those videos! 📖📜
I just need to say, you're flaws are why I show up girl. Be you and you've opened me up to so many different books I would never ever even think I'd like. Or love!
No matter what, you’re my all time favorite booktuber, and that’s me saying it drunk, so you know I’m telling the truth. Sorry, just thought I’d throw that in there 🖤
I'm so glad you liked The Maidens! I felt exactly the same way; it was pretty good but not my favorite mystery/thriller ever or anything. I also wish the story had focused more on the "maidens" themselves but it was still fun. Great video!
I didn't realize you didn't finish Before I Go To Sleep. I loved it by the end. The twists were so good but it was a slow read for me so I completely understand why you didn't finish it. I love hearing your thoughts on books even though we have such mixed opinions on so many books. I've picked books up based on why you didn't like them because I knew they might be perfect for me like The History of What Comes Next. I loved it and knew I would based on your review. But I agree with you about Bunny. Loved it!
I just love your video concepts. If these worked out I think it would be great! I think I would really enjoy the "reactions" to list videos, but with a nice twist that you do to some of the more "normal" video ideas. I also would love a discussion on your book scratch-off poster! Whether you talk through reading them, or have a series where you read 5 of them in a series of videos, or something like that! I'm looking for a really great (more diverse) one and would love your thoughts!
My favorite thing about Ace of Spades was the characters, Chiamaka and Devon and all of the other characters including their love interests are amazing and I still think about them 😍 I don't think it's super twisty and the reveals got a bit repetitive for me but it's still a favorite because of the characters and relationships!
i felt exactly the same way about truly devious. it's so...not as interesting as people say it is. i've got the maidens and ace of spades on my tbr so now i feel like i need to pick them up sooner rather than later. great video, kayla! always interesting to get more insight into your video concepts. :)
I really loved the Truly Devious series but I’m wondering if I went into it because I love the insular boarding school setting and didn’t think of it as a thriller mystery starting it verses just a book about a true crime lover at a school. I’m not a fan of YA thrillers either they just don’t do it for me. I’m just thrilled (haha) that we get another long video from you and love to see what you do and don’t enjoy and maybe finding new books for my TBR.
love this concept, its so much fun!! also the 3 of the books u read here and also a couple that were on your tbr shelf are also on my tbr lol maybe i should do a lalathon
OMG I just had to pause because the "Christian Fiction Romance" was so triggering for me. My sister and I talk all the time about how that genre warped our sense of romance as teens. Glad to hear a proper (if very kind) take down ☺
I know you said you swore of YA mysteries which I can definitely understand but there is one that you may enjoy because of the twists at the end and I believe ti is set in a small(er) town. It is Keep This to Yourself by Tom Ryan. I found it a entertaining(?) read with a twist I have never seen at the end.
Recently read Rebecca and she most definitely doesn’t have a name??? Wondering if your talking about when she’s introduced as “Caroline de winter” but that’s not her name that’s the name of the person she was dressed up as at the ball
hallmark movies (now i can only speak for the christmas ones) are good because they’re bad and are essentially the romance equivalent to lifetime movies
Lala, there is something so comforting about your content.
It's like listening to your smart best friend you talk to everyday
@@hamandeggs23 agreed!
💯 agree 😊
I agree! That sounds odd to say but it's so true!
I literally fall asleep listening to her videos on my AirPods. So relaxing
Love that Kayla’s “barely read anything” is like my average reading month 😂
"I've never even heard him meow"
This made me laugh, because I have the most dramatic kitten who meows like he's dying while throwing himself on the floor just for attention.

Omg y’all.. her mind 😩🖤 even tho these are all cancelled concepts, they are so creative and fun!! Love to see it
Her creativity with videos is what initially drew me to her channel. Her content is always top tier!
Seeing her throw Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance off a hot air balloon was so cathartic wow.
I was FULLY waiting for Kayla to do that not the movie 😂😂🤦🏼♀️ LMAOOOO

THAT SORT OF ASMR AROUND 12 MINUTES WAS GREAT ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love this idea!!!!
She’s doing it now!
Re: books in movies. I was CRUSHED when I discovered all the books in Moonrise Kingdom were fake.
You should try reading books with similar titles to your favorite songs
I love that idea!!

Recently read Rebecca and she most definitely doesn’t have a name??? Wondering if your talking about when she’s introduced as “Caroline de winter” but that’s not her name that’s the name of the person she was dressed up as at the ball
These are my favorite kinds of videos from you!
hallmark movies (now i can only speak for the christmas ones) are good because they’re bad and are essentially the romance equivalent to lifetime movies
