The sequel is here and I never thought I would be watching it but here we are!! I LOVED this movie and found it more enjoyable than the first one! I loved that it just went full insane comedy mode and so many gags were hilarious!!
Thanks for watching! Have a great day! :)
Don't know if anyone else has commented on it, but Clamp was kind of a play on Donald Trump. Because at the time Trump was primarily a very grandiose Real Estate Developer. gotta have the best of the best of the best.
in the first movie when in the police station the sherrif got a call and it was from the Futtermans about a snowplow a freak accident and Billys like their trying to make it look like a accident. So they lived.
The critic the Gremlins garrote is the actual critic who ripped apart the original in his film critique of it lol...they asked if he wanted to get in on the joke and like a true sport he signed on. love it lol
His name's Leonard Maltin. He seems to have a great sense of humor. He also appeared on "Mystery Science Theater 3000" after they tore into his movie guide in an earlier episode.
I saw the first Gremlins in the theatre in 84. I thought it was ok, cool effects. I saw the second one in the theatre in 90 by accident one night. I could not believe how crazy it was!! I love it! I loved they went peddle to the medal. I think it is just brilliant! Joe Dante is very underrated. Another great movie of his is "Innerspace"(1987) starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, and Meg Ryan. Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan got married after making the movie. The storyline of their relationship in Innerspace mirrored their real life.
I second Innerspace. Such a great movie.
Yeah, Innerspace had some mind-blowing effects in it.
@@DogwafflDan I saw it in IMAX.
Joe Dante LOVES classic monster movies, and he regularly references them in his movies. It all culminates in his 1993 masterpiece Matinee starring John Goodman which combines monster movies of the 50s with his teenage memories of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a film every regular Letterboxd user should know.
And if you've seen any of the batty direct-video so-called "sequels" to The Howling, you'll know why Joe Dante was PO'ed enough to Easter-egg a theater marquee showing "The Howling Pt. XII" in one of Gremlins II's street scenes...
@fabianhebestreit3240
Joe Dante didn't WRITE either Gremlins movie, so he didn't have anything to do with the references, dumbass. That is all the script writers, dumbass.
@@MrParkerman6 Dude, listen to his audio commentary. He had a huge input in the script for Gremlins 2 and visual references often were made up on the spot on set. Any reason why you're so aggressive and insulting?
All the building announcements in the background crack me up.
Alarm-voice: Fire: The Untamed Element, Oldest of Man's Mysteries, Giver of Warmth, Destroyer of Forests! Right Now This Building is on Fire!
Woman in corridor: What?
Alarm-voice: Yes! The Building is on Fire! Leave the Building! Enact the Age-Old Drama of Self-Preservation!
Sir Christopher Lee's presence in the film was heavily advertised as the horror master gracing the new generation of horror. Lee said he absolutely enjoyed his time on this film, calling it a work of genius that skewers convention and the entertainment and pop-culture tropes of the late 1980s: "But really what the humans wore was of marginal interest, because the charming little Mogwai and his fiendish offspring that swell in a gelatinous ooze to terrorize a building, and then perhaps a city, dominate the screen... The film crackled with jokes and pastiches, a rare instance of a sequel improving on the original. Lee lends some insight into how such a brilliant, unconventional film was made, calling Joe Dante an outstanding director. Writing in his wonderful autobiography "The Lord of Misrule," Lee elaborates: "The script came to me from Paris from the director, Joe Dante, who subsequently became a valued friend, and we went to Los Angeles to see him in office, known as 'Dante's Inferno' because of the way it is festooned with posters, curios, models and bric-a-brac of all kinds. His mind is similarly furnished. He appears to have read and seen everything, and, what is more, to like and understand actors. The feeling is mutual." Included in the book is a picture of Dante throwing Lee an on-set birthday party complete with Dracula cake.
Other notes on Lee in this film: Lee states that he was fortunate to act with fully mocked-up Gremlins controlled by hidden puppeteers, saying "When you have a full-scale Gremlin to react to, about three feet tall, there are four to five puppeteers hidden, controlling eyes, arms, mouth, body and legs controlled by wires. They were amazingly convincing... " In-jokes were written specifically for Lee with the most noticeable being his look of horror when the Gremlin turns into a bat-gremlin, referencing his Hammer days as Count Dracula. Their is retroactive irony in Dr. Catheter's death by lightning as Lee's most famous recent role, Count Dooku, was the foremost fan of Force Lightning. On the bat joke, the Batman symbol left in the wall as the Bat-Gremlin flies off is a reference to WB's omnipresent marketing for Batman that came out the same year as this film in 1989.
Robert Picardo was also the EMH, the Emergency Medical Hologram in Star Trek First Contact. He was a character on Star Trek Voyager who had a cameo
Ollie recently watched First Contact in which the EMH makes a cameo appearance so he's seen that actor very recently.
@@jondbm if OP didn't know this already it would have been a really odd comment to make.
Picardo is one of Joe Dante's favorites. He puts him in almost all his films along with the late great Dick Miller.
Glad you watched this now as soon as you can do a reaction to the key and peele skit on gremlins 2 they compliment each other so well.
I love this one more then the first one.
fun fact - this movie is the first instance of anything in the world being referred to as 'smart' like as in smart phones? they refer to the clamp building as the worlds first 'smart building'
Jerry Goldsmith actually makes a cameo in this movie: The white haired gentleman asking "Whats going on here? Did she say they're rats??"
"Creature, what is it that you want?"
"Fred, what we want is, I think, what everyone wants, and what you and your viewers have: civilization. [✂] Everything your society has worked so hard to accomplish over the centuries, that's what we aspire to; we want to be civilized."
[A Gremlin with a beanie cap acts goofy next to Brain.]
"You take a look at this fellow here."
[Brain shoots the Gremlin in the head. The Gremlins in the bar laugh. Grandpa Fred and Kujitsu leave.]
"Now, was that civilized? No, clearly not."
Fun Fact: The uplifting end of the world video scene was included by the filmmakers when they found out that CNN has a video for this purpose in its archive prepared to run in case of the end of the world.
Maltin Mania Fact: Leonard Maltin appears as himself repeating his criticisms of Gremlins (1984) while he holds a video version of the movie. However, his rant is cut short when gremlins pounce on him as a result. In his annual Movie Guide, he gave this movie three stars (out of a possible four) and refers to this "gratuitous cameo" scene even though he doesn't say he's actually in the movie.
Karen Cameo Fact: The mother scolding the theater manager regarding the movie's inappropriate tone for children was based in fact. During a screening of Gremlins (1984), director Joe Dante really was severely criticized by a mother who walked out of the theater with her daughter during the infamous kitchen massacre sequence. The daughter begged to be let back in the theater, got free from the mother, and hid in the theater to watch the rest of the movie.
Planned Sabotage Fact: At one point in this movie, director Joe Dante attempted to involve his audience in the story by making it seem as if the gremlins had taken over whatever theater in which this movie would be screened. During his DVD commentary for this movie, Dante recalled that Warner Bros. wanted the sequence cut, as they were concerned the audience would believe the film actually had malfunctioned, test screening ultimately proved otherwise. However, the video version caused problems: Instead of film-breaking effects, the scene looked like a VHS malfunctioning. Many rental copies were returned as a result of this, and video mastering houses called the filmmakers to ask them if this was intentional.
The actress playing Marla with the red hair and glasses is the same girl who played Caroline, Jake's girlfriend in Sixteen Candles. The Asian guy with the camera also played Long Duck Dong in Sixteen Candles, that's where you recognized him from.
The thing you much understand; Gremlins was meant as a horror movie, but became known as a comedic horror. Unlike Trolls and others of the same vain; Gremlins decided to lead in the comedic side more, so this film is a lot sillier then the first. It pokes fun at itself, and because a bigger success then the first. This one is more well loved than the first
I would love to see a horror version
I'm not sure this is more well-loved than the first. A lot of Gremlins fans hate this movie for some reason. This is definitely the better movie though.
I loved this movie when it first came out and I still think it is so much fun. I hadn’t seen it in a while and forgot just how many references and stuff happened in this movie. Such a fun time!
the sequel was great, i love gizmo.
But i like the Daffy one.
I’m so glad you decided to watch the sequel to Gremlins, because I always thought it was so fun and crazy !
If you're wondering why we get so many references to the Phantom of the Opera (including Phoebe Cates wearing a Broadway pin), that was Warner's idea of "viral marketing": They were convinced they were going to start shooting Joel Schumacher's version of the Broadway musical the next year.
They were off by about eleven years. 😄
Fun fact .. Composer Jerry Goldsmith appears as a cameo on only two films in his entire career .. Gremlins (as one of the inventors at the conference Billy’s Dad is attending .. he can be seen in the big 4 way phone booth to Dad’s left wearing a weird cowboy hat that has lots of mechanical arms attached it .. and here in Gremlins 2 .. as the yogurt eater customer guy who says “Did she say there are rats?!?” .. and the woman he holds who’s freaking out about the rats is his wife.
I saw this film at the Cinema when it came out .. and it’s still one of my favourite movies ever! It’s pure chaos .. pure class .. and pure fun!
Best part was when the Hulkster broke the movie screen 😆
With your Star Trek watching, Robert picardo who gets the lady gremlin after him is one of the main cast members of Star Trek voyager. Easily my favorite character in that show! Was such a surprise when I finally watched this film last year.
You should watch Innerspace then :)

Gremlins 3 would be one of very few long overdue sequels I wouldn't mind getting.
The Daffy Duck stuff is just because Joe Dante really likes the Looney Tunes, and would in fact later direct Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
When this was released on home video, the theater sequence was deleted and replaced by a new sequence more aligned with tv viewing, including a clip of the old Bugs Bunny gremlins cartoon, and, replacing Hulk Hogan, a shoot- out with John Wayne! "Get offa my movie!" Most prints have now reverted back to the theatrical sequence but the video sequence survives as an extra on Bluray. (As does a cool behind-the-scenes gag reel. Looks like cast and crew had a blast.) But of course, fans of the movie already own it.
The biggest reference in this most millennials might miss is that Clamp is based on Ted Turner, a major cable tv mogul, and Gremlins 2 parodies a lot of his real life actions, such as colorizing black and white movies and producing an in-case-of-the-end-of-the-world film. He also has some 80s Donald Trump in there, who's 2nd wife was named Marla. Clamp was supposed to be more villainous but John Glover is too likeable so they leaned into that.
Crazy but fun sequel!!
This movie is so creative
One of my favorite funny parts of this movie as a kid was when the Gremlins bust their arms into the elevator and grab the intern's legs and start spreading them apart and saying "Make a wish!" 😂 They're imitating when two people pull apart a wish bone to see who gets the bigger piece and earns "the wish." I knew that joke was naughty as a kid I think that's why I thought it was really funny. 😂
You got the TV/Video version of the movie. In theatres the meta scene with Hulk Hogan was with John Wayne.
What really made this movie was the crazy creature effects. Rick Baker was known for being the god of special effects particularly his legendary creature shop. This video for example shows a little behind the scenes inside Rick Baker's warehouse where he stores all his projects. ruclips.net/video/2IxqEEtErf0/видео.html If you really want to have your mind blown like crazy by old school creature effects then Rick Baker is someone you gotta check out.
The Monster Movie Guy is a multi-layer monster reference.
He played Grandfother in the Munsters sitcom. He was a vampire and his Gremlins costume is nearly identical to his costume from the show.
For all I know, it is the costume.
He is a homage to Grandpa Munster but it is not the same actor.
My favourite sequel of all time 👌
If they ever do a Gremlin 3, I seriously hope they come up with some more of the creative, cool monster gremlin designs such as the ones in this movie. I think they were the best part about this!
I loved the rlm pitch, that Clamp would run for president, Billy is the official presidential portrait painter, and the Gremlins take over Wasington, but I don't think it'll ever happen.
They would just use cgi
@MOLE that completely misses the point of a Gremlins movie. The point IS the puppetry. That's why there was never a gremlins cartoon show or anything.
@@cjpolett2055 exactly my point
@@-M0LE Last I'd heard, a Gremlins 3 *is* in development and the people involved did post they would be using practical effects, thankfully!
From what I understand, the director didn't want to do a sequel. But the studio offered up a big paycheck and complete creative control. So he went wild.
Joe Dante is one of my favorite directors. He makes such fun films. You should react to his 1993 movie Matinee with John Goodman. It's loosely based on a director from the 50's and 60's named William Castle. He would make horror and sci-fi films and would have gimmicks in the actual theaters which played his films. Stuff like seat buzzers or ghost props flying around the theater. The movie is really good and I think you'd really like it. It was made for people like you and me who are film lovers.
I love both movies! This one is fun
Thanks, Oliver! 🌆 #RolyPolyOllie #JoeDante #ChuckJones #Gremlins2 #Gremlins2TheBadBatch #Happy2023
They basically begged Joe Dante to come back and do the sequel because every other plan fell through and they told him he could do whatever the fuck he wanted. It really shows, and I love it so much. Honestly up there with some of the best sequels ever made.
Great movie better than the first one :) . You should watch the security guy in the movie Inner Space.
That’s what I was thinking about.
I saw this at a sneak preview the night before it officially opened. The theater was full of fans of the first one, all ready for a good time. We knew nothing about the movie, and that film-melting part suckered all of us. We really thought the film had melted, and then the voices and the shadows started....
I still have the VHS tape of this movie!
And I'm never giving it away!
Also there's a scene with bugs bunny in the VHS tape version instead of hulk hogan!
26:33 I liked it when, gizmo is tired of being scared of gremlins. But, he’s awesome to be Rambo himself as fearless as he should be.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳🎉🎇🎊🎈
This movie is more of a parody of the original film.
I'm so happy you loved this movie! I was one of those that suggested you watch it. My most anticipated moment I hoped I'd see you react to is when Gizmo is running outside at the beginning. You kept saying that you thought he was so adorable in the first. So I knew your reaction would be so fun when you saw him with his little legs running. And you included that moment! You're awesome! 4:10
ever since i was a little kid, i love that running shot of Giz so much i always look forward to it on each watch
The emh or doctor from Star Trek voyager was in this
Also remember Gizmo has had to deal with these demons for eternity
fun facts in the original draft of the movie Lenny (the goofy bugtoothed one) was actually gonna turn good and join Gizmo and the others in fighting the gremlins, also Mohawk is appearently a reincarnation of Stripe which is why Gizmo seems especially shocked when he reveals himself sort a "YOU!?" type of moment
Btw The VHS version of this movie had an entirety different scene when the movie was interrupted by the Gremlins, instead of the Hulk Hogan bit. 😂
I was about 14 or 15 when I saw it theaters and the bit where the flim projection got screwed up blew my mind , it felt like there really was gremlins in the movie theater when they started doing shadow puppets
As a fan of classic monster movies this movie definitely pays Homage to that kind of movie and I've seen alot I seen all of the Universal Monsters Movies and Most of the Hammer Horror Films plus a lot of the Classics that are neither Company
The first 4 gremlins I. This film are Mohawk(a.reincarnation of stripe), Lenny and George (a reference to the novel of Mice and Men) and the crazy one is called The Daffy gremlins .
Ahh another movie I was obsessed with as a kid. I actually even saw this one before watching the first one.
Other good stuff by Joe Dante includes Small Soldiers (somewhat similar to Gremlins) and segment 3 of Twilight Zone: The Movie (which is similarly cartoonish in a funny/sick way) and Innerspace (amazing fx for 1987).
Explorers (1985), Piranha (1978) and The Howling (1981), directed by Joe Dante, were also good too.
@@MLJ7956 Howling was a groundbreaking film. The first in-camera werewolf transformation and it was...Robert Picardo. Matinee another great film, seamlessly interweaving 50s monster flix, a coming of age story, and the Cuban missile crisis.
@@Joe-hh8gd In The Howling I remember Robert Picardo's transformation scene into a werewolf was long, detailed and very horrifying.
Great reaction I love this film its such a great sequel and the advances in puppet and animatronics are so much more animated and distinct than the first.
Fun fact the guy reading the bad review of Gremlins on the TV show isl an actual reviewer reading his own awful review for the first film, which he hated. The creators approached him and asked if he wanted to do a cameo in the sequel.
Also the scene set in the cinema where the Gremlins mes mess up the film and the Hulck has to sort them out was actualy altered for the home VHS release to show a VHS tape melting down in a home setting rather than a cinema.
This movie went though so much crap when it was released but then 3 years later I came out and have enjoyed it for many years, it’s just such a good time finally someone who agrees 👏👏👏🙌
Good catch on Tuco.
I’m so excited for this! This is so good. It’s a sequel that actually delivers.
Robert Picardo is the Doctor in Star Trek: Voyager. The twins in the cloning department appear in Terminator 2 as the asylum security guard and his double.
I believe the original video release had a different scene with the Gremlins taking control of your video player instead of the cinema. I'm not sure whether Hulk Hogan was in that version.
GREMLINS 2 is pretty much a live action _Simpsons_ episode before the show found it's footing. Ahead of it's time in 1990.
Daffy Gremlin was my favorite. I always like seeing Daffy Duck get more screentime. This is one of my top favorites. Not only does it have homages to classic monster movies, particularly B movies, but also Looney Tunes cartoons. Not only Daffy Gremlin and the animated stuff (done by one of the original Looney Tunes animators, Chuck Jones-- who'd cameoed in the first movie as the guy who commented on Billy's drawing), but the home video release had a clip from the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he deals with a wartime gremlin, and one of the crates near the end of the movie had ACME stamped on it.
I think you sell the humans short a bit. Yeah, the Gremlins and Gizmo are the stars, but I think the movie would miss something if it'd been an entirely new cast. It was also great to see the Futtermans return. There's just enough of the humans to be proper foils and to add a bit of heart and comfort, but not be boring or distracting from the chaos and fun. Not an easy balance to maintain. Kind of like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" or "The Muppets," IMO.
Nice and funny movie reaction!!!!
I don't think this is as original or enjoyable as the first one, but I still like it. Joe Dante said he didn't want to make a sequel to Gremlins but Warner Bros kept begging for it, so he was like "okay screw it, let's make the most ridiculous monster movie ever and let's be totally meta and self aware"
First reaction of 2023 Happy New year 2023 to you and don't get drunk this time.

thanks because of the Gremlins 2 movie somebody thought it was great idea and was inspiration and that of we know today is The cooking food channel was born
Rambo Gizmo forever!
Haha nice. Most reactors only watch the first one.
The true Gremlin spirit. Total insanity
Yay! I like Gremlins 2 much better than the original Gremlins movie. The original Grenlins movie was scary to me as a kid, while 2 was not at all scary.
I give Gremlins 2 an 87% and Gremlins 1 a 75%. Beetlejuice goes snack dab in the middle like 83%, along with its Broadway musical with the hit song Dead Mom.
If you continue with the Star Trek franchise, you'll eventually see Robert Picardo again as a main cast member in Star Trek Voyager.
Gremlins in my view is definitely a better made film. But Gremlins 2 is a more entertaining ride. I love both and it depends what mood I'm in as to which one I prefer to watch :)
its hard to compare because the tone is different, i can rewatch Gremlins 2 Until the Day I Die, I would need a break from the first one
New Gremlins Content is in the air right now but Do look for Gremlin Easter Eggs in other WB movies as you keep reacting. and you can see them again in commercials too
On VHS the movie interruption was VHS style
i always find something new each time i watch this movie, Its like a Wheres Waldo book where theres a bunch of crazy stuff happening all over the place
I like this better than the 1st one .
They are currently making a 3rd one
Easily one of my favorite sequels. It’s almost as if the movie was made by gremlins.
