I just literally watched a video from EVM with regard to public charging versus petrol/diesel running costs, for those of us, myself included who don't have access to home charging, everyday running costs are more expensive, i run a small diesel, I can get to work and back for 5 shifts for £18-23 a week, less than half a tank of diesel, my weekly commute of around 300 miles, of which 80% of my commute is motorway mileage, I have a vehicle which is more than capable of driving in any conditions, I was recently criticised by another RUclips channel for saying that £16000 was not "affordable" for a car that will only cater for town driving and only able to manage a WLTP range of 135 miles, I was told that I'm unreasonable, i would hate to think how much that would cost a week to run using the only charge point in the town and then adding on the parking charges, in the colder months, I wouldn't be able to get to and from work on a single charge, and for a car that would get me back and forth to work for a week, I would have to buy something at least twice the size (not good for someone who lives in the centre of town), and I would have to spend in excess of £25000, I didn't even pay that for for my house and my house isn't depreciating like a car

Geoff.... sales of EVs grew 23.3% vs last year in September. And grew 3.3% vs last month. Also in terms of proportion EVs grew.... yanno the one thing that did fall? Petrol sales. (Proportionally) Diesel was bigger than EVs yes in proportion of growth in the private market. But EVs are still taking a bigger and bigger proportion of ice sales year on year. AND not to mention that More EVs were sold privately than diesels anyway. So... its not actually alot to talk about... and more just alot of misunderstood figures.

I don’t see it like that, Geoff. That the manufacturers are asking for help, I mean. I see it that, 1) Manufacturers were forced down this route at considerable cost to them but at zero cost to the governments. B) The manufacturers have tried but are now saying to the governments (really the WEF), ‘We can’t sell them. No one wants them. Over to you.’ Again, I say it’s only a matter of time until collective manufacturers sue these ridiculous governments over lost revenue. They are already sending stern objections as a collective force. I hope it continues. I know two people with an EV. One is elderly, he drives a few miles a week. The other has an ev amongst a collection of five or six.
Never understood how the Government has the right to require manufacturers to sell a certain percentage of EVs or face a financial penalty. We live in a free-market economy. Companies have the right to sell what the hell they want (provided it's legal) and how much of it they want without Government interference. Nothing like this has ever happened before; and, unless there's a handbrake U-turn, the British car industry will disappear. We've held off buying another car for seven years now, and can't see ourselves buying another until and unless the EV policy is reversed. And I'm pretty sure we're not the only family doing this.

We all can guess what this government will do to support the EV drive/showing support to the manufacturers, they will just make it more and more expensive to own an run a ICE vehicle. Brilliant!!
It's arguable that no amout of government support would shore up EV sales. A heavily subsidised EV would be like giving someone a free elephant to use for personal transportation. It's completely non-viable, as drivers have discovered.
Does anyone know how the new insurance vehicle risk rating has classified EVs? Are they being appropriately rated by cost and lack of repairability, or has the govt twisted the Industry’s arm so that ICE vehicle drivers are subsidising them again?
Geoff you can make as many real world EV vlogs as you can but there's still a massive number of people out there that only see the EV TV adverts and are easily led or is that lied to?
@@stevewhitmill2037or maybe people can make their own minds up instead of listening to some random bloke on RUclips. Have you ever owned an EV? Sounds like it's you that's easily led.

I was fortunate to get a diesel at the beginning March of this year. I do a lot of mileage, I've done over 18,000 miles in it since. It would have been nigh on impossible to do my job and do those miles with an electric. The fact is, hardly anybody is buying second hand EVs which means the car market is knackered once cars come off lease. Nobody can afford the massive depreciation involved in EVs. Let people buy diesels if they want them, they are so much cleaner than they were. The EV market is a con.
If the government do much as supports this request a class action suing needs to be thrown at them for actively distorting the natural economics to the detriment of the economy.
You didn't mention the other Autocar headline - "New EVs arriving thick and fast". Can't think why? In the month of September, we only bought 10 tins of baked beans. We usually buy 12. On the other hand, we bought 10 tins of tomatoes, when we usually buy 8 Is this the end for baked beans? Nope, it's called an adjustment. It happens. Have a proper look at sales and what is increasing/decreasing, but do it year on year, not for one month. Oh, I meant cars not beans.😊
Even if one accepts the (rather silly) premise that CO2 emissions are harmful and must be reduced, EV mandates are a completely ineffective means of accomplishing that. The entire world production of lithium per year, if it were used ONLY for EV batteries and nothing else, would barely cover the number of vehicles in the UK. That's 2 percent of the world's total number of cars. That would not even move the needle on emissions globally, but it would completely exhaust the world's lithium supply for that year. So if this continued, you'd have 20 percent of the world's petrol cars converted to electrics in ten years, which is about the standard published battery life on these things. After that, all of that lithium production will just be used to keep that 20 percent serviced. As people's batteries die, they will either scrap the car and buy new (which means more CO2 emissions manufacturing a new car), or they will spend tens of thousands of pounds on a new battery for a car that is worth well under that. Either way, at that point, the entire world's supply of lithium is just going to keep the 20% on the road, and that is as far as it will go. Until the lithium runs out. Lithium is really common in the earth's crust, but it is at such low concentration that it is not practical to mine it just anywhere. It is environmentally devastating, and many countries where new deposits may be discovered will not want to endure the ecological damage that is very real and measurable in order to take part in a "feel good" measure that will not help anything at all. In the US, there is a large lithium deposit that is not being developed, and it may never be. The people of the area do not want their groundwater contaminated for decades to come, for obvious reasons. What this means is that even the amount of lithium being mined now may not be sustainable as the existing mines run out. Even if every car on the planet (also including trucks and SUVs used for personal transport, as well as buses) was replaced with an EV, it would not have a significant impact on CO2 emissions. Globally, 16% of CO2 emitted comes from the transportation sector. Of that, cars only account for 45%. Multiply those out, and you get 7%. And if those vehicles were charged 100% with solar, wind, hydro, or nuclear power, that is all the CO2 emissions you'd reduce. In reality, this will be massively offset by the huge amount of C02 that is pumped out mining, transporting, and manufacturing the lithium and other stuff to make enough cars to replace 1.5 billion existing cars in the world. Seven percent, that's it. In reality, it would be a lot less than that, though, since at present, more than half the world's electricity comes from fossil fuels. So with that factored in, you're talking about 3% reduction in CO2 if you can find a really powerful wizard to replace ALL 1.5 BILLION cars in the world with EVs. If you actually have to make the cars in factories, you'll be putting out way more emissions than that. If you want to really use that lithium to its fullest potential to reduce emissions of the (beneficial) CO2 gas, forcing the world to convert to EVs is not it. How about using it to store the ephemeral energy from solar panels and wind turbines for base load usage when the wind is calm and the sun is below the horizon? You can think of tons of things that could be done that would produce more effects for less effort, economic disruption, and the occasional motorist being burnt to a crisp.
My workplace company car scheme demands you choose an EV unless you do >15000 miles per year, then they will (after a fight with HR to prove it) also let you choose a plug in hybrid instead if you want. Straight petrol or diesel is prohibited, as are mild hybrids, even if the emissions are less or close to some of the PHEVs on the list. Total madness! I can forgo using the company car scheme and take a cash equivalent if I want to avoid those restrictions, but after that money gets taxed it's nowhere near enough to source my own half-decent vehicle without being significantly worse off financially. Oh, and even if you take the money, BECAUSE you took the money, they have another policy you have to follow that says the car you choose MUST be under 130g/km of CO2 and less than 5 years old (or they wont pay the money). And if you go through all that and still end up with a diesel, get ready for the government to BIK tax you in to oblivion for the cheek of not looking after the planet! When does a company car stop being a benefit???
If you followed politics and propaganda of the last year you should get the idea that Solar Panels and Windturbines were not about the environment, they were preperation for war and the expectation of getting cut off of oil and gas.
I drive a 2.o tdci mondeo cost me agrand 12 months ago it's my 4th one all bits in scrap yard 2 miles away 55mpg my daughter got new focus hibrid 40mpg £350.per month😊
Because a large percentage of the "sold" EV's weren't actually sold they were pre-registered by the dealers to try and meet the ZEV mandate. These will now be registered as used cars which will then effect the used car sales numbers.

Discounting EVs NOW!!! After failing to predict Future Values …To be honest they should never have offered these completely new type of vehicle technology on lease to companies or PCP to private individuals. We have had nearly 100 years to understand petroleum and diesel propulsion vehicles in terms of service and repair costs …thus insurance costs and FV’s. EVs should only have been offered on standard finance facilities like HP with the customer taking the risk… thus Joe Public wouldn’t have and neither fleet buyers would have taken the risk and EV sales would have been minimal…now we have a finance/ leasing industry asking to be bailed out “to promote EV sales and the march to Net Zero. The market finds its own level in terms of all of the above… NOT silly government mandates. Reduced prices ALWAYS affect Future Values !!!! Oh Bugger , they are literally flogging a dead donkey
So the fact of man made climate change is not a problem? Respiratory disease caused by diesel emissions is not a problem? Habitat loss due to fossil fuel burning not a problem? Name me some real problems then.

Just getting city dwellers to have places to charge and small battery cars, will cut down airborne particles, but you can't force that same model to ALL car uses.
A fine can only be applied if a crime had been committed. Not reaching a target of 20% of total sales could never be considered a crime under any circumstances.

Hey Geoff. Would it not be proper to present the actual number of new EVs and Diesels sold privately in September? That would dispel any lingering doubts that your headline is fact or propaganda agenda pushing. So come on, give all the viewers the actual figures.
I priced up a Renault Zoe last year (purely out of interest). I currently pay just over £300 to insure a 1.2 Nissan Micra automatic, and £140 for a 1981 Triumph Acclaim on a limited miles classic car policy. The quote for a Zoe was £1800.
Right now all of us motorists are still subsidising electric car insurance but that's changing for next year. The whole insurance group thing is being overhauled and "repairability" which was never factored in, will be when groups change from 1 to 50 to 1 to 100. I wonder where on the that scale EV's where battery packs written off by a speedhump and cost more than the car will land.

I phones are cheap now. Less than android. Who on earth has a new license plate yearly even a lease is 2 3 or 4 years. And a mortgage payment for a new house now would be closer to £2k. I know they used to be £600 when a house was £115k. But houses are easily £350k now.

Don't we all. My last diesel car died. And the one I currently have has just had another battery fail and sometimes won't unlock on the remote and when I use the key to get in the alarm goes off. Also the air conditioning has died again. It's a 2011. And the last car was a 2008. So many things went wrong. Water leak, oil leak. Power strearing fail. Dmf clutch. Fractured spring wheel bearing. Amazing video as always Geoff and I 100% agree with you on the part you mentioned that they are focusing on people in certain areas and on people who afford electric cars and focusing on them instead of trying to focus on people that may not be able to afford such an expensive EV for certain reason and that even if people did have an EV never take in to consider charging because what if you live in block of flats or have semi detached house and have no parking how to hell do you charge and no matter if you decrease VAT on electric cars or whatever they decided to do ain’t going to convince people to buy one I rather stick to petrol or diesel vehicle thank you also Geoff as well sent you email about any enquiry I have so if you can get to me when you can that be great amazing video once again 😂
How can people charge EV's if they live in flatts and terrace housing you cant have cables running across footpaths health and safety.
Because the govt aim is for nobody to have a car - except them and their mates.

(Proportionally)
Diesel was bigger than EVs yes in proportion of growth in the private market.

I see it that,
1) Manufacturers were forced down this route at considerable cost to them but at zero cost to the governments.
B) The manufacturers have tried but are now saying to the governments (really the WEF), ‘We can’t sell them. No one wants them. Over to you.’
Again, I say it’s only a matter of time until collective manufacturers sue these ridiculous governments over lost revenue.
EVs weigh a lot more than diesel cars - more damaging to roads and therefore should pay more ROAD tax.

It's arguable that no amout of government support would shore up EV sales. A heavily subsidised EV would be like giving someone a free elephant to use for personal transportation. It's completely non-viable, as drivers have discovered.
I appeal to every potential new car buyer; boycott EVs!!
Does anyone know how the new insurance vehicle risk rating has classified EVs? Are they being appropriately rated by cost and lack of repairability, or has the govt twisted the Industry’s arm so that ICE vehicle drivers are subsidising them again?

On the other hand, we bought 10 tins of tomatoes, when we usually buy 8
Is this the end for baked beans?
No. No subsidies for EVs. and wind turbines and solar panels..free market economy..m
If you followed politics and propaganda of the last year you should get the idea that Solar Panels and Windturbines were not about the environment, they were preperation for war and the expectation of getting cut off of oil and gas.

The new car sales numbers for September 2024 show that 56,387 BEVs were sold, 17,556 Diesels were sold. How does this translate into 'We Want Diesel'?
Because a large percentage of the "sold" EV's weren't actually sold they were pre-registered by the dealers to try and meet the ZEV mandate. These will now be registered as used cars which will then effect the used car sales numbers.

Discounting EVs NOW!!!

So come on, give all the viewers the actual figures.
Have you campared the cost of comprehensive insurance between EV and ICE cars?
