the only thing i am surprised is that this was real. asfar as i knew doug walker was a very nice ned flanders from early simpsons nice. that is a workaholic that has to be convinced to take vacations. i never thought doug walker has done this.
It's not about him quitting, it's about the way he did it. I've quit a miserable job too, and you know how I did it? "Hey boss, I've decided that I'm gonna quit." Doug here wanted to throw a parade for himself to the sound of cringeworthy background music.
Look I am not here to talk to you about Doug,I am just asking you,how are you not dead I mean the god should have struck you down the moment you called Bohemian rhapsody "cringeworthy".
For those who quit via formal RUclips video, grammatically challenged IOU, dancing to Kanye, Super Bowl commercial, just remember this. Doug did it first.
Yeah, if you're going to burn bridges with the professional work world like this, you'd better really, REALLY know what you're doing. If Doug ends up even having to take up a part time job to pay the bills in light of the recent controversy, this video is going to come back to haunt him hard.
Yep. Though if he wanted, he could probably just walk away and do the exact same thing he does as The Nostalgia Critic on another channel. His fans would follow him and it'd be easy for him to start over. He'd have to give up filming in a studio and probably have to stop using everyone except his brother, but he'd survive.
In light of recent events, I just discovered my old comment on this video from back in high school, and oh boy has my mindset changed since then. This is an amazingly stupid thing to do to yourself. Now that CA is burning down, this will be evidence to any employer that Doug sees himself "above" normal honest jobs, and that he could make a big dumb grandiose exit too. Why would anyone want to hire this arrogant and immature man? No matter how much you hate your job, you should try to be civil with your employer and at the very least quit on neutral terms so that your CV doesn't suffer. This shit makes you unemployable and isn't cool to anybody down the line. I guess Doug thought his career would skyrocket and never crash and burn, but look where we are.
Nine years ago I wrote: "Goddamn that is so cool. That's something to think about for my graduation this year." it's probably buried in the comment section for others, but highlighted for myself. Anyway I was obviously an edgy teenager who thought Doug was a legend for acting like the main character in his own imaginary movie. I didn't have the experience yet to realise what a bad example he was setting. Luckily I never did anything stupid and I've grown up since then. Not too sure about Doug though :|
Yeah definitely agree that there are some smart ways to get back at an ex-employer without compromising yourself. I'm seriously curious how Doug can pass any background check or even interview at this point, since it's pretty inevitable that the nostalgia critic videos won't save his finances long term.
I don't mind him wanting to quit the job to pursue his dream, which I do respect. But this is definitely not the way to do it, at the very least the doors should be open in case something like not so awesome happens, or better yet made something so that not so awesome would've never happened.
Exactly. You don't just burn all bridges because you found a new career path. You need a backup plan, keep doors open in case things go wrong. Clearly Doug never envisioned he would need to return to working floors again, but unless he can salvage the NC and separate himself from Michaud, he'll have no choice.
I think it says something about the job itself though if people are willing to quit in such extravagant ways. I'd love to beat the ever living shit out of the HR manager that runs the factory that I work at. He's an abusive douchebag and he knows that that factory is one of the few places to work in that shit town.
If the job treats you bad enough that you're willing to make a grandiose exit like this one, then the job deserves it. ESPECIALLY IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY! Because if you won enough in the lottery to be set for life and be responsible with that new income, you don't need to worry about burning bridges.
@@djargus I’m saying if you ever go broke and there are lottery winners who go broke, it’ll be a hard time to find a timeframe you ever do something like this.

Dude, that took guts. That had style. And anything you do that ends in being chased by security is definitely a win. Think about it this way. That business owner or manager, whichever it might have been, would without a doubt know that you aren't working for them and aren't taking their crap anymore. Of course on the flip side of this, if this had been a practical joke it would have ended in a firing anyway. So either way, you would have been out of there. Way to go in leaving on your own terms.

I worked for a call center that treated me and others like shit. It was the worst job and company I have EVER worked for. I got hired to my current job I've been at for 7 years now and I was crying tears of joy. I thought about how to burn the bridge and go out with a bang. I was watching Predator with my roomies and then the inspiration hit me. After doing the exit interview, I took a company foam finger, went to the center of the call floor, took a deep breath, and let out a battle cry all across the center while raising the finger in the air, then slammed it to the ground stomping on it then ran out the building. I got a standing ovation from one section of the floor. I wish I had a cell phone that could have recorded that day, but regardless, that was my best quit ever.
Here's something, the clip of him opening the shirt was on an episode of Ridiculousness on TV. I was watching the episode, I see the clip, and I'm like, "wait a minute.... that's Doug!"
He was doing night shifts at a car factory as a janitor/cleaner. His superior was all smiles to him but behind his back was always trying to get Doug fired - they'd been through four other janitors in rapid succession previously. Everybody else was nice though and the "act" was mostly directed at this one guy. He's Hispanic so I'm presuming he was the dude eating the sandwich at the front in the canteen.
Yeah. No anniversary this year. Having to put back the critic's cap because no one was watching his new show. Best contributors making more view on YT and on TGWTG site. Said site designed by a moron to make it the most user unfriendly as possible. Yeah, he's doing great.
And yet he has so many people that love him and gets more views and followers than you could ever hope to have. And great, let's mention the one show but not mention the many others that people love, such as Sibling Rivalry and Shut Up and Talk.
Awelbekk ? NC is doing fantastically, along with the main contributors both on the site and on YT. The anniversaries official reason was that they don't want to overwork people, and the site is indeed designed by a moron I agree with you on that, although it has nothing to do with how well the guy is doing. Also, he doesn't have to beg those people for his job. He has a massive CV of acting, hosting, editing, directing, and writing cred. He can find a ton of work if he decides to let online video making go away.
Doug, you got some big balls for doing that xD especially to all those people. I give you that, because no other person would do that right after they quit from a shitty job like that.
Why all the hate for this? Loosen up, guys. It's not hurting anyone or costing them money, and you don't know what it was like there. That might have been a dream come true for Doug. Well....yeah. If you're gonna compare Doug to the inventor of the review show, then of course he's less talented. That's like saying I'm less talented than Albert Einstein. It doesn't really mean anything.
This Video is now suddenly relevant again.
I love when things go full circle.
And all those people who worked for him don't want anything to do with him anymore.
turns out it wasnt him that was the problem from what I read but some guy who somehow owned channel awsome and the nostalga critic brand because Doug didnt want to deal with the logistics and I mean cant blame him but really should have picked a better guy to handle things. oh well least everything is fine now. Heck I hear most of the people who left channel awsome are buddies with Doug again.
I don't care what anyone says about Doug, but this was by far one of the best and funniest ways I've ever seen someone quit their job.
Little did people know that his new job would turn him into such a scumbag.
How and why? Lol I’ve watched Nostalgia Critic for basically my whole life but clearly y’all know something I don’t cause I’m confused lol
@@abelcastro4813 Look up the not not awesome document and you will soon seen why I said that.
@@Mario87456 Doug is pathetic but most of the issues stemmed from Mike
@@BeyondBaito Still Doug was perfectly fine with enforced Mike’s policies and it proved that Doug is a complete and utter sociopath.
I posit that the scumbag part of him was always there.
Guess one has to play this backwards now
"That Guy With the Glasses is Owned By Nobody, BEE-ATCH!" Why did you tempt fate there, Doug?
Cause this was made over a decade ago.
something about this whole thing is so cinematic. even the framing in the beginning. it’s like a character study by aaron sorkin, the coen brothers, or maybe even paul thomas anderson. there is something poetic about doug walker as a character that makes every choice he makes as interesting as they are.
lol I love how there's this one guy sitting there in the front of the break room eating like its just a normal day at the office.
If CA goes down with this weeks controversy... Doug, Apply for your old position back in this place, or no balls.
he loves being the nostalgia critic
chelsi irvine You think they’d take him back after they got security in him?

I wouldn't say that it didn't aged well, more like due to current circunstances this video has a very different meaning.

i wish i quit my job like doug
Wow people are so salty in the comments. Are they this pissed that someone left the confines of a 9 to 5 jobs and achieved financial independence doing something they love? The comments range from outright jealousy to people taking doing what you love outside a traditional job as some sort of blasphemy.
Shredded Wheat Please reply to this comment so I can bookmark your comment somehow. I agree with you so hard it hurts. People always talking shit about others who do what they love for a living instead of a "real job", whatever the hell that is.
okay
the only thing i am surprised is that this was real. asfar as i knew doug walker was a very nice ned flanders from early simpsons nice. that is a workaholic that has to be convinced to take vacations.
i never thought doug walker has done this.
It's not about him quitting, it's about the way he did it.
I've quit a miserable job too, and you know how I did it? "Hey boss, I've decided that I'm gonna quit."
Doug here wanted to throw a parade for himself to the sound of cringeworthy background music.
Look I am not here to talk to you about Doug,I am just asking you,how are you not dead I mean the god should have struck you down the moment you called Bohemian rhapsody "cringeworthy".
Wow, that guy has some balls. He did what everyone has dreamed of. Grats to you Doug....grats.

You should if you want employment. Then again, Douge was able to scam people with that IndieGoGo for 90 grand. So yeah, real idol here.

A young Doug walker quits his job to pursue is true passion
He quit his job the same way he earned his living afterwards: being loud and annoying on camera
....to become an even bigger Ego Maniac!
For those who quit via formal RUclips video, grammatically challenged IOU, dancing to Kanye, Super Bowl commercial, just remember this. Doug did it first.
As someone who has worked a couple jobs, don't do this. lol
this is why adam sandler movies are illegal in 194 countries
I like how this is the same person who got a group of people to guard someone on the way to their house with friggin swords.
Hoo boy, this may have been a bad decision on his part in retrospect with the way things are going now.
was gonna mention that haha
Yeah, if you're going to burn bridges with the professional work world like this, you'd better really, REALLY know what you're doing. If Doug ends up even having to take up a part time job to pay the bills in light of the recent controversy, this video is going to come back to haunt him hard.
He made an idiotic mistake handing over the rights to The Nostalgia Critic in the first place. Karma's a bitch.
Yep. Though if he wanted, he could probably just walk away and do the exact same thing he does as The Nostalgia Critic on another channel. His fans would follow him and it'd be easy for him to start over. He'd have to give up filming in a studio and probably have to stop using everyone except his brother, but he'd survive.
At any rate, he still has to address this problem. Not talking about it is only going to make things worse.
So... Do you think he regrets this now?
No way he loves doing the nostalgia critic
Doug seems like the man who wouldn’t regret this
For better or for worse
Nope
no
In light of recent events, I just discovered my old comment on this video from back in high school, and oh boy has my mindset changed since then.
What's your old comment?
I wonder if Doug regrets doing this now.
No you know how happy he is with the nostalgia critic
Nobody should ever quit like this even if they won the lottery
I think it says something about the job itself though if people are willing to quit in such extravagant ways.
I'd love to beat the ever living shit out of the HR manager that runs the factory that I work at. He's an abusive douchebag and he knows that that factory is one of the few places to work in that shit town.
If the job treats you bad enough that you're willing to make a grandiose exit like this one, then the job deserves it. ESPECIALLY IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY! Because if you won enough in the lottery to be set for life and be responsible with that new income, you don't need to worry about burning bridges.
Tell that to a complete narcissist like Doug.
@@djargus I’m saying if you ever go broke and there are lottery winners who go broke, it’ll be a hard time to find a timeframe you ever do something like this.
@@mrmusickhimself I utterly despise Doug Walker too but regardless I don’t think I would have ever guessed that Doug Walker would eventually because a complete and utter asshole and sociopath.
Even if I won the lottery or something and knew for a fact that I would never have to work ever again I don’t think I could ever quit my job like this, I’m way too much of a nice guy to bring myself to do it in a big “Fuck you” kind of way
When the Bubble Bursts...and it will...And he has to go and get a job again, just to support himself, potential future employers will be able to find this video...and see the rather unprofessional manner he displays.
And this moment of triumph...will come back to bite him.

The Cinema Snob*
"These orthodox levels are most un!"
I remember watching this video over a decade ago, and it never crossed my mind until now that the guy in the video was the future nostalgia critic.
Dude, that took guts. That had style. And anything you do that ends in being chased by security is definitely a win. Think about it this way. You had to have got the attention of a lot of people and the Boss to get security called.
KenshinRyujin now everyone in Channel Awesome is leaving on their own terms.
That wasn't a security guard, fucking dumbass. It was a Factory Manager, idiot.

Nuke it from space. It's the only way to be sure.
Think they'll take him back now?
And thus began the legend of the Nostalgia critic.

Id be the guy who just wanted to eat his sandwich
Literally the guy who leaked the ending of The Last of Us Part 2
Do you think they'd take him back now?
Where did he work?
I dont know. A janitor for some company. But look what happened
StopMinecraftVIOLENCE Sounds like a Breaking Bad episode.
Trisket TIME TO COOK!
He was an illustrator. Someone made up shit somewhere and said he was a janitor because of this video. Never worked for a car factory.
It'll be really awkward in 2016 when he has to go back and beg them for his job back.
Why would he have to do that?
He makes a pretty good living now
Yeah.
