I'm learning to play piano and trying to use my two octave midi was super restricting. I definitely subscribed to your channel and wanted to comment to raise visibility to help others with the same issue. You're the best, I hope all is going well. "use keyboard as MIDI"
Some keyboards do not have a MIDI IN and a MIDI OUT, but only an unique USB connection; but it works as well; in that case you just use an USB cable to connect the keyboard to the computer (the same you use to connect a printer to the computer); it works the same as with the connection with MIDI IN and MIDI OUT; in order for your software to dialog with the keyboard, you must select the corresponding MIDI input; open the MIDI select dialog box, and you should see the connection with the keyboard if this one is ON; once you have selected it, you can play on the keyboard from the computer, and you can also record on the computer what you play on the keyboard (if your software allows it).
When the keyboard has an USB connection, no driver needed; when the keyboard has MIDI IN and MIDI OUT sockets, they are controlled from a computer through a special MIDI cable, and then a driver is needed, which is provided by the maker of the cable.
But I tried connecting the keyboard using a USB cable. And it won't connect, and the driver cannot be installed (Roland Juno). That is why I was thinking about buying this cable in the first place. Do you know what might be wrong with my setup?
+Ario Bintang Bugraha You must use a software which is able to handle MIDI. In a such software, you have a "settings" button which allows you to define the source of MIDI; you must click it, and select "MIDI USB" among the various options which are proposed. Alright - to everyone out there in YTlandia, if you're looking for some ideas...I bought a PSR-433 w/stand and bench for $150CAD (KIjiji). It's got some 'ok' sounds but...I'm fondly in love with the Hammond/Leslie iconic sound. And I found it and got it happening yesterday - jamming out to SomaFM/SecretAgent - such fun! This winter's gonna fly by! I'm using the std USB 'printer' type cable in to my 2012 HP Pavilion laptop (running non-TPM Windows 11). The latency/lag (fully adjustable) is a bit annoying but...with a more powerful laptop that would be no problem. As it is it's tolerable. The software I'm using is GG Audio's Blue3 which includes the Leslie cabinets (fully adjustable). It's a stand alone version. I'm playing SecretAgent via Firefox and the USB audio mixes overtop so fine! Smiling from ear to ear 🙂

So, I'm trying to set my digital piano as a controller to play with a specific plugin but, after load the plugin in cubase, the piano keeps sounding as a piano, not generating the plugin's sounds. Any tips on how I solve this?

Is this enabled, please? Also double-check Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter. Make sure nothing is enabled here, but SysEx."
How do I get the Local on/off to activate on my older CVP-35 Clavinova. I followed the instructions in the manual but I'm doing something wrong. Thanks Much, Garrett
So I have a 90s Yamaha Clavinova. I'm using an m audio USB uno device and I'm getting latency, not alot but enough to be annoying. I have a 25 key USB controller that gets virtually no latency. I've messed with the buffer size in ableton and it doesn't get rid of it. Could this be because of the hardware in the old midi keyboard?

I tried midi to usb and usb cables but I can't play more than one note at the same time and it has a 3-5 sec cooldown between notes when I try to use on reaper, I don't know if is because my piano is too old (it is a Clavinova clp 340) or something else. Is there something I can do to make it work properly?
Hi , I have a question
Why midi don’t play after disconnecting the digital piano ?
You are such a life saver...it totally worked...however the response time is extremely slow, can't even play a chord, any ideas (i'm using a windows pc)
Sounds like an audio latency. I hope you're using an audio interface can reduce your audio buffer size.
@@reubenchng i'm using it with focusrite solo, the first press of key is fine, but i have to wait another 10secs or more to press another key
Thank you! Is there a way to make the computer generated sounds come out of the speakers of the digital piano?
Not unless you hot wire them. No, it's not a viable way to do it.
Thanks for showing how to use it as a MIDI. Do you also know how to
record it in the DAW ? ( using the original sound of the piano or
strings etc and send this sound as a recording into the DAW (ableton)
thatd be absolutely amazing if youd know that! XXXXXXX
you would need an interface and usually a guitar cord connection into the interface, then record it onto an audio track.
It might have been asked already. But I have a Yamaha YPG-235, so I’m wondering if that will work will FL Studio.
Hey there. I have an old yamaha dx7IIFD and i want to use it as midi controller and as an instrument the same time. So, should i get an audio interface which also has midi in and out or a usb cable to midi will do the job. Because a lot of people say that old synths(like my yamaha dx7IIFD) don't work with usb to midi cables. Or they work but with high latency. So what do you suggest me? Should i get an usb to midi cable or i need to get an audio interface which also has midi in and outs. Thanks in advance..
I've been wanting to use my MOX8 as a midi controller for Omnisphere on my DAW (Reaper). So you're saying all I need is to use the midi IN-OUT to USB cable? All this time plenty of people have been pulling their hair out trying to send midi through the USB cable to computer connection. We suspect there is a way in the settings, but nobody knows for sure.
Nice! These days I found an old song where I programmed all the drums using an old PSr, and now I am using an m-audio Oxygen 25 controller, along with FL-Studio tones, but I think I will preserve the old drum recording, it was very good to programming on cakewalk 9 .... lol!
Thanks!
that really helped me a lot, I've been looking for ways to get the keyboard's sound in the DAW I'm using and now I found it.
I appreciate that!
So glad that it helped you!
HELP!!! i have a casio WK 1630, but when i connect it to ableton only 2 keys work! the rest do other things :(
When we connect the keyboard to the midi can we use the tone that is not available in key board.like if the keyboard does not have guitar tone can we connect our keyboard to midi and through software such as fl studios can we play the guitar tone?
you didn't connect the keyboard to an Audio Interface and then to computer.. does it give same quality with only this cable? or is the audio interface necessary
how to reduce the latency .. can i do it on the DAW itself
My keyboard does not send any midi signals to the computer when connected via a Midi-Interfacekabel. Must I do some extra settings on the hardware?
Thanks for advice. I connected my digital piano Yamaha P125 via usb cable, it shows on Logic Pro, can play vat instrument but I also hear digital piano, when I slide volume down on my piano then also I don't hear vet instrument on Logic pro, how to fix this problem?
Hello, I have an old Ensoniq SQ1 Plus, I tried setting it up as a midi controller through Logic Pro X but I am not getting any sound. There are a bunch of midi settings in the keyboard but not sure if I have them correct. I am using a similar USB to Midi cable like the one you have.
Can you help me figure this out? Thanks
Reuban, i hope you reply as i really need help right now bro.. you use the exact Pa50 as mine, how do you get ur PA50 to send out midi signal? What are your configurations in the GLOBAL MIDI options in your PA50? thanks so much!
I connected my keyboard to my DAW, but when I turn down the master volume on my keyboard, the volume on the DAW turns down as well. How do I fix this?
But bro I have an issue with this
Whenever I plug it like this
The midi information is recorded as double which is a problem with some external vst sounds
How do I fix this??
Please can you explain how to successfully connect my usb keyboard to my Rubix 22 audio interface and/or with my TR8S, so I can record what I am playing on the keyboard, on my Mac Pro PC, via installed Soundflower or any other computer sound recording software.
But does digital piano create latency if used with virtual DAWs like FL studio? Bcz m using my korg D1 digital piano with fl studio but there is always latency issue. Please suggest.
Smiling from ear to ear 🙂
so you are doing xlr to usb right? have you done usb2 to usb to use a keyboard as a midi controller for your daw? i think thats how i did it a long time ago but i forgot xD
My Keyboard's midi in and out are blocked by the plastic cover from the manufacturer. What does that mean?
I own an old Xin Yun XY322 keyboard
I got really cheap keyboard which is Fujicom JC-618 and only have in output, can I use it as midi?
hello good day sir reuben. I'm an old keyboard player but not that very very good in playing, i just bought the same midi cable and i really dont know what are the whole advantages in using midi. please enlighten me more about the midi cable, is there an app in the computer that lets you change the effects of the piano? like the techno effects, etc. what are those apps? the free ones would be better hehehe.thank you and God bless
So, I'm trying to set my digital piano as a controller to play with a specific plugin but, after load the plugin in cubase, the piano keeps sounding as a piano, not generating the plugin's sounds. Any tips on how I solve this?
Hello, in case anyone needs it, follow the answer I got on the Steinberg forum, which allowed me to effectively solve this problem:
"Double-check Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Thru Active. Is this enabled, please?
Also double-check Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter. Make sure nothing is enabled here, but SysEx."
@@ph_stuff What? I dont understand your reply.
@@andrewbanuelos7473
Well, I just copied and pasted the answer they gave me on the forum. What didn't you understand?
@@ph_stuff what daw are you using?

Ok but how do you play the instruments on the keyboard into the Daw
How do I get the Local on/off to activate on my older CVP-35 Clavinova. I followed the instructions in the manual but I'm doing something wrong. Thanks Much, Garrett
So I have a 90s Yamaha Clavinova. I'm using an m audio USB uno device and I'm getting latency, not alot but enough to be annoying. I have a 25 key USB controller that gets virtually no latency. I've messed with the buffer size in ableton and it doesn't get rid of it. Could this be because of the hardware in the old midi keyboard?
Hi. I tried to connect my digital keyboard to my computer to use it as a midi keyboard and i success. On my daw i record a track using it but when i playback the track, the sound came from the speaker of the keyboard. Can i make the sound to come from the monitor instead from the keyboard speaker?
Hi sir , can I play the external background created in a music software with midi?
Can we use this cable for connecting a digital keyboard to pc for fl studio purposes?✋
What midi software do you use? By chance also thank you so much
And what if I have a midi keyboard which does not have mod wheel on it (connected to an external USB sound card via MIDI cable) and have a midi keyboard (connected directly to PC via USB) which has a mod wheel - can I use the mod wheel on one keyboard while I am playing/recording on the other? Using Cubase 7 LE.
Thanks!
any korg driver instaled or not
My Keyboard has only MIDI OUT port and i bought a USB to MIDI cable but its not working. In my DAW Ableton it shows USB2MIDI but when i play nothing happens. Is that the cable related issue?
Do i need to install some drivers coz my computer is recognising ?
